  • Welcome to Schony747 on Wednesday. If you enjoy the video, hit the like button and smash the bell for weekly updates on Schony747.
    Today Schony747 is at Ballarat which is located just over an hour west of Melbourne towards Adelaide. Back in 2021, the V/Line Passenger N Class Diesel Locomotive made a brief return to Ballarat. It was the first time rostered V/Line N Class locomotives had returned to Ballarat in many years. The Ballarat line lost it's locomotive hauled passenger trains with the introduction of Sprinter DMUs and then The Bombardier Vlocity DMU. From 1995, all freight trains to Adelaide were diverted away from Ballarat so this video also covers some of the history of the former double tracks that used to run through Ballarat.
    The reason for this unusual move was driver training for infrastructure upgrades on the Ballarat line. Wendouree station was also opening a second platform so drivers needed training on the new platform setup. In this video there were 3 locomotives a once at Wendouree station. Something that is unlikely to be seen again.
    It's a piece of history unlikely to be seen again - Have a great week - Brenden S.
    New Uploads Weekly - Trains, Planes, Trams
    Filmed 27th January 2021 Ballarat Railway Station, Wendouree Railway Station, North Ballarat Junction.
    Filmed in 4K Sony AX53 Handheld.

    Thanx for the video. Those N class locos look and sound like EMD built?? Is there much broad-gauge track being used in VIC these days??

    • @Schony747
      @Schony747  ปีที่แล้ว

      The N class are EMD. These locos were a replacement for the A class conversion. The N class replaced the A class rebuild due to costs related to the A class project. All N class locos with the exception of 3 all run on broad gauge which is also still the main gauge still in Victoria

    Small correction: Where you were filming at Gillies Street it wasn't technically double track - There used to be a crossover roughly halfway between Gillies and Forest St crossings, at which point it went from separate up/down tracks to the line to Adelaide running parallel to the Skipton line which connected up to the lines at Cressy and also had the Cattle Yards line branch off of it directly behind where Wendouree station platform 2 is now.

      9:25 I also really wish these grain sidings were reopened ala the Kensington ones in Melbourne. Traffic in Ballarat is abysmal, getting anything we can off the roads would be great.

    • @Schony747

      I remember the tracks to the sale yards and the tracks that also ran behind Bendix Mintex brakes back in the day as well.

    • @TheDemocrab
      @TheDemocrab ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Schony747 Yup, I always forget about the Bendix/Timken siding. Pretty sure that started out as a huge storage siding for grain wagons back when Wendouree was still farmland, at least I've seen an old VR railmap that has a whole bunch of long sidings that appear to go up through most of where that industrial estate is these days.

    Nice video! I love the N class, but I wish somebody would treat them to a decent paint scheme and not the succession of psychedelic horrors they've had to endure. Even the original scheme was spoiled by the sickly orange cab. All over dark green with nice chevrons on the cab front and pin stripes on the long hood would do 😀

      I wonder if the yellow is for better visibility of the oncoming train, at a distance? In Holland they changed a lot of the blue cabs to yellow for the same reason?

      It would all be safety related I'm sure such as the new V on the purple livery.

    • @comengsh
      @comengsh ปีที่แล้ว

      the v/line tangerine and grey livery is amazing, and why the hell would they have a dark green livery? that doesn't represent v/line or PTV at all.
