I get the sense that in the case of a number of Disney's recent film projects, their attempts to integrate folks from different backgrounds (race, sexuality, country, etc.) feels largely superficial in a vain attempt to seem like they are recognizing those folks instead of genuinely creating stories they can relate to. One big example coming to mind, the hype of Disney creating its first gay character with Lefou in their live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast largely coming off as underwhelming.
Well yeah, it was underwhelming, but if they went a more blatant route it would be "THEY'RE CRAMING THIS WOKE SHIT DOWN OUR CHILDREN'S THROATS" more than they already did. It's a lose lose situation when you give a shit about what people who talk to the sky think.
@@sagethevvitch I won't say everything under Disney's thumb was largely pandering, as Pixar's often gotten things right with dabbling into these matters like they did with exploring puberty and the rigorous conformity of East Asian families with Turning Red. Same case with some of their animated shows like Owl House having two of the major female characters being a couple. Just when they make it obvious that they're pandering, it makes them look like the money-grubbing whores that they are.

The corporations may not care, but some people working for them and making art do.
