  • The Libyan novelist and poet Hisham Matar was one of the leading voices during the Arab Spring of 2011. He and his family fled the country when he was just nine, but his father was later kidnapped and jailed for his opposition to the Gaddafi regime. He was shortlisted for the Man Brooker Prize for his debut novel in 2006, and has now written a memoir of his return to Libya.
