Joe Quinones drew it, I painted it. Here we go into some of the thinking and process behind our jam cover for Batman '89 #6. joequinones.com Joe_Quinones kwinones PaoloRivera.com PaoloMRivera PaoloMRivera
A little of both, depending on what effect I'm going for. For this piece, the underpainting is gouache on dry, much of the color is watercolor on top of that, and the gradient background is mostly wet on wet.

When painting in gouache do you paint wet on wet or wet on dry or both?

Much appreciated!
For the shadows do you use gray made with watery gray or sepia? Gouache?
Sepia and Ivory Black gouache, watered down as necessary.
@@PaoloRivera And when do you use gray and sepia?
Did you use the original or make a reproduction?
@@fabiocaravieri5121 Depends on what I'm painting. I used Black for Batman, Sepia for the Batmobile.
I painted over a digital print of Joe's pencils.@@fabiocaravieri5121
What is the colored reference you are using? Where did that come from? Thanks a lot
That's a digital color study done in Photoshop.
maronna mia...
Did you put a thumbtack in the middle of the drawing?
I hope not! 😅 I work on a metal board (covered in kraft paper) so I use magnets all the time.
