    Obi-Wan doesn't need to be on the high ground, the high ground just needs to exist within the battle; Obi-Wan knows that when he has the low ground, he really has the high ground, from a certain point of view;
    Look at his battle record:
    Maul: Has low ground, wins
    Dooku: No high ground, loses
    Dooku rematch: No high ground, loses
    Grevious: Has low ground, wins
    Vader: Has high ground, wins
    Vader rematch: No high ground, loses
    Obi-Wan with the high/low ground is canonically the most powerful Jedi. This is fact. Had Yoda not denied his request to battle The Senate with typical Jedi arrogance, Obi-Wan could have defeated Palpatine in the Senate building, which housed a variety of different altitudes; this was designed so that the Chancellor could always have the moral high ground in political debates. But Obi-wan didn't fight The Senate, and Yoda soon learned that you can't cleave the Sheev in a normal 1v1.
    Yoda is shorter than virtually every other fighter, which gives him a permanent low-ground disadvantage; however, his saber-fighting style utilizes a flipping-heavy technique in order to negate this weakness for a temporary window. You'll notice that, as he falls from the central podium in The Senate's building, he immediately retreats, knowing that he can never hold the high ground in this duel. You'll also notice that, while training Luke, he rides on him like a mount, to gain the intellectual high ground and accelerate Luke's training. Obi-Wan's defensive Form III lightsaber style synergizes with his careful military maneuvers; as he only strikes when prepared, he can always hold the strategic high ground. You'll come to realize that Commander Cody's artillery strike failed against Obi-Wan, when hundreds of Jedi were killed in similar attacks. Cody failed to grasp the strategic situation, as the Jedi Master's elevation was superior to his by hundreds of meters, making him virtually unkillable. Had Cody taken his time and engaged the Jedi on even terrain, he could have possibly succeeded. Obi-Wan then retreated under the surface of the lake, so that he could maintain the topographical low/high ground. In RotS, you'll notice that all the Jedi killed were on level ground with the clones, thereby assuring their demise.
    As we all know, spinning is a good trick. However, only the Chosen one can spin outside of a starfighter. Palpatine tried spinning, but he lost due to this technique (but this was intentional, as losing gave him the emotional high ground when Anakin arrived). The reason for this is that spinning provides a yin-yang approach to combat (based in Eastern philosophy on balance), giving the spinner the high ground from above and below. Only the Chosen One can master the spin, as it is their destiny to maintain balance in the universe. This is why Obi-Wan was so emotional after defeating Vader on Mustafar; he expected to lose the high ground to the spin, but Anakin fell to the dark side and could no longer use his signature trick, becoming the very thing he swore to destroy.
    Anakin doesn't hate sand for the reasons he told Padme; all Jedi hate sand, as the battlefield can rapidly change between low and high ground on multiple vectors, so your perspective must be from a certain three-dimensional point of view in order to comprehend who holds the high ground. This is the only reason why Obi-Wan killed Maul in Rebels. This is also why Obi-Wan hates flying; there is no gravity in space, therefore there is no high or low ground from any frame of reference (This also negates the spinning trick).
    It took the Tusken Raiders years of conflict against Old Ben Kenobi to grasp his superiority in terrain advantage, as you see them visibly flee in ANH when they realize he holds the low (inverse-high) ground. Additionally, Obi-Wan's victory in the cantina against the drunkard was assured, as he held the temperamental high ground, his actions more calculated and well-thought than the alcoholic, who was so uncivilized.
    In ANH, Vader proves his newfound mastery by engaging Obi on perfectly even ground. However, Obi-Wan intentionally sacrifices himself on the Death Star, so that he could train Luke from a higher plane of existence, thereby giving him the metaphysical high ground.
    Why was Vader so invested in the construction and maintenance of the Death Star? Because he knows Obi-wan can't have the high ground if there's no ground left.
    As seen through the events of the Clone Wars, Obi-Wan was known to be on friendly terms with Senator Organa, whose homeworld held large quantities of mountainous terrain, the perfect habitat for a Jedi Master. Grand Moff Tarkin was already in position to destroy Alderaan as a first target, as the distance from Scarif to Alderaan was too vast to reach between the escape and recapture of the Tantive IV, even at 1.0 lightspeed. Alderaan had been the initial target all along, as Obi-Wan with the high ground was the primary threat to the Death Star. How? Because a moon-sized space station would have some form of gravitational pull, thereby negating Obi-Wan's zero-gravity weakness; Obi-Wan with the perpetual high-ground in a low-orbit starfighter would easily be able to fire proton torpedoes through a ventilation shaft, although the Empire was uncertain of the specific weakness of the Death Star planned by Galen Erso (who was a good friend).
    In Return of the Jedi, you can see that the Throne Room contains a variety of different altitudes; Palpatine placed these there to ensure Vader's defeat. However, Sheev failed to realize that his weakness was no ground, and should have covered that useless gaping pit which does nothing.
    A common misconception is the idea of a 'prostrate position' version of the high ground, wherein Obi-Wan lies flat on his back, giving him tactical superiority from his point of view. However, this strategy is futile, as for the high ground to come into effect, there must be a differential between parties on both the x-axis and y-axis to a moderately significant variation from both absolutes (Angles only a Sith would deal in.). For Obi-Wan's high ground powers to have full effect, he must stand between 15 and 75 degrees (π/12 to 5π/12 radians) diagonal from his opponent(s) on any quadrant of the trigonometric circle.
    In conclusion, Obi-wan abuses spatial relativity and Taoist doctrine in order to always invoke his high-ground powers.

    I think internal demons the way to go with Obi-Wan. The film most likely occurs between episodes III & IV, and the major canonical development for him there (we have to assume) is communing with Qui-Gon and developing the ability to join with Force after death. The standalone movie is the obvious place to address this feat and also expand the myths of the Force itself. Also, seeing Obi-Wan investigate this ability could add major emotional weight to his sacrifice in A New Hope - perhaps even repurposing the 'Hope' in that title so I it subtly alludes to Jedi mastering the ability to join with the Force. Traditionally, we've seen the 'Hope' as being Luke, but Rogue One made that 'Hope' the galvanisation of the rebellion - the Obi-Wan standalone movie could redefine 'Hope' again by showing Obi-Wan (and maybe Yoda) come to a fuller understanding of the Force itself under Qui-Gon's instruction. Oh and Tuskens and Hutts! ;)

      I agree about the fact that this film's "antagonist" shouldn't necessarily be a physical character, but PTSD.
      But I must admit, I don't agree with the whole "expanding on what the force is" thing. As long as its a mystery, it will be more intriguing.

    I think if Vader were to be involved in the Obi Wan movie then we would see him hunting surviving Jedi of order 66 and being lectured by Palpitine that he is dead and it's time for Vader to face that.

  • @liamo6891
    @liamo6891 7 ปีที่แล้ว +36

    Theoretically, could Vader's damaged breathing apparatus have sustained him until Luke could get him medical attention, rather than Luke taking off his mask like in the movie? Or was his apparatus too damaged from Palpatine's lightning to keep him alive long enough?

    • @renoutlaw8371

      @saphiriathebluedragonknight375 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think that Vader could have survived long enough. He just did not want to. He knew that he would simply be executed by the Rebels and he did not want to put Luke through that. So he had Luke take off his mask so he could die in peace with Luke by his side.

    • @BungieStudios
      @BungieStudios 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Liam O He was forcing it. He can breathe but only so much. His lungs were burned and his internals fatigued. It hurt him too much. The machine did all the work for him.When he takes off his mask you'll notice he stops breathing. He practically uses his last breath to talk to Luke. Whether purposeful or coincidental, no sound is made for him breathing and his entire dub can be completed with one held breath.

      Because if the Empire finds out that Obi Wan's on Tattooine, then the rest of the Empire finds out anyway through basic military protocol. And that would mean that Obi Wan has failed to stay in hiding, and the Empire would send whatever it would take to eliminate him: clones, Inquisitors, Vader. If the Empire knew Kenobi's location, it would be a breach of the story continuity. The Empire simply can't know.

    The Obi wan movie imo should definitely take a different direction. They don't have to have your typical villain and so on. It should be like Logan I think. I think maybe a crime syndicate finds out Obi wan is a jedi, and instead of turning him in for a reward they blackmail him into working for them in taking down another crime syndicate. He delves into the underworld maybe meets a woman, she dies and so on. The inner demons is also a great idea. I can imagine him doing some bad things to keep Luke and his identify a secret. I'd love to see the first act of the movie just him living in his small house. Checks up on Luke a few times a day. Collects food and gets a drink at the local cantina hah. Maybe smoke some deathsticks. I'd also like Qui Gon to speak to him. Liam Neeson as the force voice. It doesn't have to be R rated (although I'd love that), just a bit darker than your usual.

    I find the concept of an R-rated Star Wars movie to be pretty fascinating, because Star Wars is a universe where there's basically endless possibilities for storytelling, and while it doesn't hurt anything to keep Star Wars PG/PG-13, going straight-up R could lead to some interesting possibilities. If they were to go that route, I'd say Shatterpoint would be an ideal choice. I mean, aside from Shatterpoint dealing with some of the uglier themes of war, you just couldn't do an R-rated Star Wars without Samuel L. Jackson :P

      I think in the Clone Wars they explain it. B1 and B2 battle droids are different phases of the same model. One of the changes is in the voice. They're better suited to the role of security, and make poor soldiers. I think the B2 was a slight upgrade to make them better soldiers, but a side-effect of their design makes them "chatty".

    agree that Star Wars is a fantasy story. The forward in Battlefield Earth had a nice rundown on what makes the different fiction genres. For a story to be Science Fiction, even with suspended belief, there must be a chance for parts of the story to exist in the known realm of science.
    As for a question, this is more of a fun comedy question. when Mel Brooks made Space Balls, George Lucas allowed for cross pollination to occur. As such, a couple of scenes and props used in/for Star Wars is in Space Balls. One of the easiest examples is the Millennial Falcon is parked in Space Balls. Does this make Space Balls canon? Just think it would be cool if Han Solo flew around in the Space Balls universe.

    For the Obi-Wan Movie's villain I'd like an Imperial Moff (Grand Moff, Admiral, Grand Admiral?) anyone with a big sounding title, and have a Inquisitor as a side-villain or henchman, just as the Grand Inquisitor was a henchman for Grand Moff Tarkin. So we can get interesting villain scenes and have a Lightsaber duel every now and then if they wanted to include one, but still keep the growing empire as a real/new threat.

      I think The Clone Wars should stay separate from Legends. The EU was its own thing and Disney Canon is its own thing. There are so maby inconsistencies found if The Clone Wars was in Legends Canon. Like in Legends and in The Clone Wars microseries Grievous is a totally different character with a different backstory than the one in The Clone Wars. I like Canon and Legends Grievous but I don't like mixing up their backstories and creating inconsistencies there. They should really just stay separate.

    • @KikBlava
      @KikBlava 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      In short, The Clone Wars changed a few details from the EU as it took priority in the canon but it was still open to using many elements from it. And some of the later books such as The Fate of the Jedi series took elements from the cartoon.
      Back when The Clone Wars was around they wanted to be consistent with the Expanded Universe at first, but just decided to ignore some of it when they could. So, in the comics, Adi Gallia was killed by Grievous, but in the cartoon she was killed by Savage. In the comics, Aurra Sing was a failed Jedi Padawan who went on a long rampage killing Jedi and stealing their lightsabers. That origin was ignored in the cartoon and any connection she had to the Force ignored as well. And Even Piell died a different way in the books.
      There were quite a few things The Clone Wars adapted from the EU though. Aside from a more light hearted personality they understood what Quinlan Vos can do. The planet Onderon along with the walled city of Iziz and the Beast Riders is taken right from Tales of the Jedi. The Nightsisters of Dathomir were from the EU, as was Maul's design from the non-canon Old Wounds comics. Also they wanted to bring Thrawn into season 2, Revan and Bane into season 3, and they had plans for the Yuuzhan Vong.

    I'd like to see a movie for Obi-Wan where the Emperor attempts to eradicate Obi-Wan by sending a bounty hunter after him, maybe Cad Bane or something. The only time we see Vader is in his discovery that the Emperor sent another to dispose of his rival/old-master and this disturbing lack of faith in Vader adding to the rage within him. The confrontation could tease the idea of Yoda also being hunted in the same way. I wouldn't mind if Kenobi left Tatooine but maybe never further than its moons Ghomrassen, Guermessa and Chenini.

  • @aidanchutkan8662

    I like the idea of the inquisitors as the villain but I also think it could be cool to have a bounty hunter as the villain. Imagine a movie about IG-88, Bossk, Dengar, or even Boba himself trying to hunt down Obi-Wan. Hell, it could be about Boba trying to get revenge for the death of his father (though maybe not because they're already making a boba movie.) Idk, I just like the idea of grounded movie on tattooine rather than Obi-Wan fighting some massive force-using threat.

    Dude Obi-Wan's day to day struggle might prove to be a kind of villain on it's own. There's no shortage of struggles and villains that the writers can play with. I definitely want to see Obi-Wan struggle and eventual duel with A'Sharad Hett. I'll be really let down and frankly surprised if they don't include Hett.

    I have an Idea for the Obi-Wan Movie. How about Mace Windu beeing the Villain? Maybe he survived and found out about Luke, and now he wants to kill him before he becomes as bad as his father. It would be cool to see a Jedi becoming a Villain in an other way than simply joining the Sith. And Mace Windu was always a little bit on the dark side anyway, he wanted to kill Palpatine before he could become more dangerous, maybe he became even more desperate.
    Sam Jackson wanted Mace to be alive and would certainly come back for the Role, and they even made a new Comic about Mace, so it could be true.

    I have a different idea, perhaps the villain of the Obi Wan film could be Asharad Hett who in his quest to defeat the Sith by killing their servants a la an inquisitor ironically lets the darkness corrupt him and his clan of tuskens meet Obi Wan out in the dune seas of Tatooine as Hett explains his reasons and desires for the death of the empire(Obi Wan also wants the empire dead so this leads to emotional conflict as to what he should do)but he disagrees with Hett's methods but the tusken leader offers a bet to the old Jedi, a lightsaber duel and if Asharad wins they fight the empire immediately but if Obi Wan wins this plan goes nowhere and Hett is humiliated and subsequently killed by Obi Wan on his home planet.

    Vader should have a parallel story to Obi Wan's - Hunting down the remaining Jedi throughout the galaxy and rising through the Empire. Obi-Wan's villain should be aging, and the feeling of guilt for not seeing what Anakin has become. I'd love if the movie had a Logan vibe to it.

    The villain of the Kenobi movie should be a disillusioned Mace Windu.
    If Kenobi was forced to kill one of the only living Jedi left (especially if it was one he was friends with) to protect Luke, it could be an amazing character moment.

    I want the Obi-Wan movie to be set before the Phantom Menace so we can see him and Qui-Gon doing their thing. Maybe he could be doing stuff with Duchess Satine and maybe we could have a B-plot with Sidious and his Master. Maybe the two plots will kind of mirror each other like Ventress and Ahsoka in the Clone Wars

    I'm not very keen on the Kenobi Standalone film at all, but I'd love to see a Finn origin story. He's probably the one character who needs it the most. It's a great opportunity to show off the First Order trooper program, and go into further detail in what the First Order is supposed to be exactly.
    I know it's a Military Junta-style government, but they could translate that easily to an audience in a Finn origin story. There has to be one experience that affects his mindset and demonstrates WHY he's so much more compassionate than the other stormtroopers, like a sort of mental "predecessor" to his ultimate defection.

Something that brings him away from his seclusion on tat may be by bounty hunters, Sent by a unknown mandalorin villain to recover a surviving Jedi, that forces Obi wan to face his past.

    Question: In The Clone Wars, Dooku implies that he considered using Savage to overthrow his Master, telling him "We will be even more powerful than Lord Sidious. We shall rule the galaxy together, my apprentice." He seems to consider betrayal other times too. However, in the comic series, "Son of Dathomir", he seems 100% opposed to Maul's offer to help overthrow Sidious. Why do you think this is? Just a change of mindset similar to how Vader also swung back and forth on his loyalty (Lords of the Sith), that he just hates Maul, or that he was simply too scared? Thanks!

    [SPOILER WARNING FOR THE THRAWN BOOK]
    I could imagine a set-up being created in a followup book to Thrawn, when we will find out more about Elis time with the Chiss. Maybe even an old Thrawn/Eli duo returning to the galaxy to conquer it with the Chiss? I think it would be awesome.

In the time of ESB and RotJ, they (along with the other TIE models) were able to be filmed in their originally intended blue colour. My question is, has there ever been an in universe reason why TIE's went from grey (even in rebels) to blue?

    Oh, it should be Joclad Danva!!! Wait, what? Didnt he die in Genosis. NO!.Hey Guys, Kyle Rowling here. Couple of cool things to know, Joclad was the 'Twin Saber Master' of the Jedi order. In fact he invented the style of using two sabers at once. And Count Dooku actually learned this system from a young Joclad. (Unfortunately all of the footage of me using two sabers, and even more importantly Dooku using them - he actually grabbed Obi-wans saber and attacked Anakin with two in the hanger fight. Anakin is so good he studied what Dooku was doing and then disarmed him and reattacked Dooku with two sabers, that's the bit you see. Dooku then also did the same thing when fighting Yoda - was cut from the final movie.) The other BIG note, Joclad didnt die!!!! Yes you see him on the ground, but he is only badly wounded. A week after the Genosis battle, Dooku sneaks back there to get some stuff he left behind when he left in a hurry.While he is there, he feels and incredible presence in the force. He goes looking and finds a badly hurt Joclad with no memory. Of course Dooku remembers him and how skilled and powerful Joclad is so he takes him and hides him and trains him. His own secret apprentice, just in case. Eventual he trains Joclad to the point of being able to throw Sith lightning. Then he decides to tell him the truth. That he was a Jedi, but they left him behind to die. Joclad remembers everything, but decides he owes the Jedi nothing, but that he will also neve be a Sith. So he leaves, to be the baddest dude in the universe, fully trained in both Jedi and Sith arts. (This story line was approved by George and Chris Lee and I always wanted to make a short film, but unfortunately Chris passed away. Maybe we can do it in anime one day. RIP Chris.)
    So Joclad could be really pissed at Obi-wan, they may have been good friends in the Jedi Temple, and Joclad came to rescue Obi and Ani, and they left him behind. Bastards!!! Now Joclad wants revenge. If you like this this idea, make some noise people.
    Anyway, I hope you guys enjoyed this. Sincerely,
    Kyle

    I know he's legends now and he was the enemy of Kyle Katarn, but i'd like to see Jerec return as the Enemy in the new Obi-Wan film, he was an awesome villain in the Jedi Knight games, and while he'd get some changes to fit in with the new canon, i'd still keep him a former Jedi archaeologist who was turned to the Dark side to stay alive in the wake of the Jedi Purge, and it i'll be someone who Obi-Wan knows from the Jedi Order, and hell, i'd flesh out the story with Jerec hunting an ancient Rakatan artifact or superweapon buried Tatooine, and flesh that out as well.
