Larger than average, highly skilled, massive reach, great hockey sense, and able to score in many different ways. Yep, it’s ok to mention Lemieux when talking about Thompson.

I would never compare Tage Thompson to Mario Lemieux. Yes, Thompson is bigger, but Lemieux played in tougher era where almost everything, guys were tougher, hits were dirtier and way more blatant, was 10 pounds heavier than Thompson, unbelievable skater, great puck handling, consistent 100-point man, 50-goal and 40-goal seasons galore. Six Art Ross Trophies, Three Hart Trophies, 4 Ted Lindsay Awards, 2 Stanley Cups, 2 Conn Smythe Trophies, Calder Trophy, came back from frigging cancer and led the NHL in scoring by a country in 1993: 160 points in just 60 games. Second all time in points per game behind Wayne Gretzky. 690 goals (8th all-time), 1033 assists (8 all-time), and 1723 points (8th all-time). Lemieux is the second greatest NHL player of all-time. So while Thompson has been amazing the past couple years, I wouldn’t be comparing Thompson to Lemieux until he is finished playing.
