Absolutely awesome!. I’ve always felt it was more rider than bike. Look at Magoo at the De Nations. When I was was younger I took a 10 year old 250 2-stroke stacked up on a line of modern 450 4-strokes. Took a trophy home that day with a big 1 on top.
The 125 every time. A 450 only has an advantage on long straights. The 125 is much quicker in the turns and as the old saying goes, the race is won or lost in the turns.
I’m 6’4”, 180lbs, is a 125 2 stroke too small for me? I’ve been thinking a 250 4 stroke bike would be the best for learning. I already ride street bikes, but haven’t ridden a dirt bike since like 2004 on a kx85
@@Jon-nz3dm I'd say a 250 four-stroke would be best. You can learn to shift correctly and the powerband will be more forgiving, especially with more low-down torque. It's key, like what was said in the video, to shift correctly to keep a two-stroke in its powerband.
@@Jon-nz3dm I think that a 125 would be better, because you need to put more effort into riding it. You may learn faster and be a quicker rider later if you decide to upgrade
@@jamesadams2334 when Machine to machine 450 will always be superior to 125. but in this video the rider of 450 can't really exploit it because He is limited By his Talent and skills. that's why the 125 keep up.

61 years old here, with a 2019 YZ250 2-stroke. I have spent more time modifying the bike over the last 4 years than riding it. Finally, it is a great bike. :) Worst stock bike I ever had. Now, if I can beat cancer, I can enjoy it.
I have been watching your videos for a few years from Guadalajara, Mexico. I have 2 questions: 1: At what point in the 3 laps did you feel that the 450 was wearing you out and quickly taking away your energy? 2: Do you think that on the 250, which you trained for a whole month, you would have done better than with the 450? Best regards.🔥🔥🔥
i know I wasn't riding the 450 to anywhere near its full potential, so pretty sure i would have been faster on the 250f. I always have it in the back of my mind a 450 can bite back pretty hard if you get it wrong so probably ride it in a more reserved way. Thanks for watching :)
It would not matter what they were riding with this example. They found out the difference of their lap times to calculate the handicap. No matter what they were riding, (even if one were pushing a wheelbarrow,) if they did not get tired and slow down----it would always be equal at the finish line.
So great that you're racing and in a wheelchair! I too am not quite as immobilized as you but I can't walk without a cane or some days even a walker, but racing is my greatest joy. I've raced for 51 years now and just can't stop. Good luck and never quit!
Tight track? Omg that track looked huge to me😂. But I agree, 450's feel so heavy even compared to a 250f. I'd say a 125 probably brings out the best of a rider , such as good cornering, while the 450 does the opposite, at least when it comes to me as an amateur rider.
@@MrJokkoma Same thought here. Tracks today are dirty road racing courses. Never tight. This track is a very easy and fast track that would not even scare a beginner.
What are the inside lines like on that track? I think on the 450 I'd try to shorten the track hitting insides more, but maybe you thought about that and decided otherwise. Im old and slow though.

125s were so much fun to ride, so light and riding the pipe they sound pure evil. Could be half the speed of the 4 stroke and still sound twice as fast.
So awesome. 450 sounds likes it in 3rd lol. Man that 2 stroke. My son just traded his klx140 for yz85. I ride it more than him at 50 yrs old. Never gets old
Can you guys give a shoot out or best puck for.cheap Chinese overall puck so far? I'd like to get one of these Chinese diet bikes foe cheap and th3n maybe mod it. I'm asking for you guys to give us your opinion on the best bike dor your buck Chinese version.
On this track, it does not matter. Inside lines are less distance traveled and a track should be designed so the rider can pick either. SX is not that design (can't take inside lines often), since they have to have a exact amount of speed to enter a rhythm section. I miss the days when there was a tricky double out of a corner, and everybody was taking the outside line to clear it. Then some kid would clear it from the inside line and gain an advantage. That was corner speed doing that. If a guy n SX has the best corner speed, he is actually slowing down to not over jump a rhythm section. Made to keep everybody the same speed----is not real racing.
Max is no amateur on the 450. I ride a ktm 250exc tpi 2022 and that guy would have left me for dust on an mx track. Can we get a real amateur next time?
For sure, i'm not embarrassed to admit it i'm weekend warrior through and through. My aim making the vids is to make them as relatable as possible for the every day rider :-) Thanks for taking the time to watch dude!
Amateur always loses. I think you guys did a video of a pro on a supermini 104-112cc and the pro still won. Head to head experience beats $$,$$$ or cc. You should do head to head of pit bike pro vs amateur on 450.
What real race is 3 laps? Dont get me wrong max rode that thumper as hard as he could but even a easy club event is 5 laps every race, was nice to hear that 125 sing tho! And he would have had me in 2 laps 😅 well done to everyone riding
Leaving the corners you need to down shift so u can accel faster even tho higher gear means higher speed you need better acceleration out of a turn you would have done better than you did
Nice test. What I'd like to see is difference in rider weight. So maybe somehow add 10 kg to a rider/bike and report what difference it does make on the track.
Im a firm believer of skill over horsepower... A slow person cant ride a fast bike fast... But a fast person can rinse every drop of power out of a slower bike....
I say it’s not the bike or the rider but the track conditions mostly couse some tracks you can go fast and jump triples and outher are slow short courses that require you to do the same all though if you a novice agenst a pro it’s clear who is gonna win
yes Absolutely it's About the Rider and not the machine. but when the rider has the same lever talent or almost like The Pro. i think the one in the ktm will be limited by His Machine
Depends on the track' There are many tracks out there where a 125 is faster than a 450. A 125 doesn't limit you as much as you think. When I was racing vintage in the 125 class, I was finishing between 3rd and 5th place. When I was racing my age group, you can ride any size bike that you want, and I stopped riding the open class 20 years ago and started riding a 125. Most of my competition are on 250, 400 or 450 two strokes and I'm on the 125. I rarely finish off the podium and almost always get the hole shot. when everybody lets off for the first turn, I'm usually a bike length behind them. I just hold it on a little longer, go into the turn with line selection and can get on the gas a little faster than them because they are still fighting their power. I love racing 125s, they are so much fun.

With a calculated "handicap", it does not matter what you are riding or who you are racing. One could be pushing a wheelbarrow, and the other (does not matter which person), on a factory tuned 450. It comes out equal as the FIM likes. It is good practice for 2 different skill rider though. But the fact is, you knew what bike/rider was faster as soon as you took lap times for the calculation to figure out the handicap. The socialist FIM would love to "race" this way, so a kid from the special Olympics could win a world championship.

Ed's sitting position is really weird... why is he seating so much in the back of the bike and i think he's sitting too much in general. He should be standing almost all of the time except turns when he should tuck into the bike and move his hips forward sitting almost at fuel tank. Weird to see a "pro" ride like that (or maybe its the camera angle)
