Day by Day | My Cancer Treatment Begins | Acute Myeloid Leukemia

  • The day after my diagnosis of leukemia I was taken to another hospital to start chemotherapy as soon as possible. The week my cancer treatment began was a blur with so many people trying to help and support me, from my medical team to family and friends.
We all just had to take it day by day.
20 years later I just had the best family camping trip and I am so grateful to be here. I would have never guessed 20 years ago that I would be this connected into my life, this happy and healthy.
It is my hope that my cancer vlog with acute myeloid leukemia connects to the people who need inspiration and hope.
There were days I wanted to give up and my leukemia story vlog is a peak into 20 years ago when I was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. My treatment including the good days, bad days, worse days and the humor we infused throughout.
Then fast forward to today. My ordinary life that is extraordinary. This doesn't mean all of my days are happy and sunny, it doesn't even mean that I appreciate every day though I should. It means that I'm at a point where my cancer journey is a part of me rather than it defined me.
    With Love,
    Beth

Your vacation looks amazing and beautiful! I'm so glad you were able to take in all the beauty and appreciate these moments! It took me 2 years after my last treatment to be able to walk up a mountain again, and when I did, I cried. (Try choking on your tears while trying to breathe at altitue :D ) I didn't think I would ever be able to do that again! Health is truly a gift, and a responsibility for us to maintain it. I love the juxtaposition from where you were, to where you are. Congratulations! I wish you many many years of increased health!

They treated as low risk, induction and 4 consolidations. Good prognosis but if I relapse will need induction again and stem cell transplant. @@Amnigaggh

It’s so valuable to hear it from your point of view, and can only imagine how deeply it must have affected you. I am curious, did you have the same determination and positivity that you have now or rather how did you uplift and motivate yourself back then, when going through something so life changing? What was your self talk like?
Also, it’s always difficult to know what to say or do when you visit with someone to show your support. Are there any hard NO NOs that we should be aware of? What would have been helpful besides letting you rest when you needed to rest?
Thank you for taking the time to do this and sharing your journey. I am looking forward to hearing about how you regained your health in the future vlogs.

@@onkareleven6218 My doctors gave me chemo injections. I can't recall the exact name, but I was given chemo for 5 days along with an oral med to target my flint 3. I'm currently out of the hospital and visiting the clinic for follow ups, which your father will have to do. Basically checking on if needs blood or anything like that. I was also given another round of chemo out patient. At this time for me I'm awaiting a donor for a stem transplant as that's what my doctors want me to do, but everyone is different. I saw a few patients get radiation during my hospital stay, but I don't know what cancer they had. Your father will most likely follow a similar treatment to mine, but it all depends on his doctors and his case. Hopefully he recovers quickly.

I wish they did a scan because after the chemo my wife is getting weaker and weaker and during Christmas eve she had to be taken to emergency and end in ICU and few days succumb to the illness since she has no way to fight any inspection.

My partner was told she may have Leukemia, there is allot of abnormalities within her blood.
She had a viral infection which was a stomach bug, it led her to throwing up ALLOT, etc, a week later she got better, but was very fatigued, I assumed it was just some post-viral fatigue and gave her vitamins and helped her rest, then 2-3 weeks later her eye sight declined, among other things, so I decided to take her to the doctor again.
In 3 weeks her vitals declined exponentially, from completely normal to really bad.
They ran her blood and said her Hemoglobin was at 5, among some other things that were concerning, apparently her sugar was 4X the amount it was supposed to be, she's not diabetic, but they had to give her insulin.
Her heart rate was basically sitting at 110-120BPM.
Apparently a doctor showed up on her off day just to look at the blood because it was so concerning, then she came to tell us that she's looking like she may have Leukemia, and said she wouldn't have brought it up unless she was fairly certain essentially.
The doctor asked 'Do you have kids', which to me was the nail in the coffin.
She was transferred to a place downtown about an hour/hour half ago and they should be able to confirm it + actually look into treatment.
They plan to give her blood, among other things, to hopefully get her more stable.
Obviously there is still a chance its something else, but its very doubtful and its scary for both of us.
I know that remission early is likely, but it continues to come back, so the chances of living longer than months, years, etc, becomes progressively harder.
She's young (26) relatively health, no underlying conditions, so I hope that she can make it through this, and I'm watching these videos to know what to expect.
Thank you for detailing your journey.
