I had a lot of fun solving this one with screenshots: cutting, pasting and rotating the paths. I immediately knew those were letters. While I was a bit irritated when passer by wasn't an N (and bus driver wasn't a V), with the 4 next to it I instantly remembered film set 42 from early in the video.
My wife and I pretty much did this exactly the way you both did. We even went so far as to cut away all the boxes that contained a 4 in them (thinking the 42 was actually 4’s with a Z instead of an S). We had a ton of fun doing this. We will definitely be doing one next year as well (as well as normal EXIT games). Merry Christmas.
