Good video. For me it's the electric bill. It's up 44% from last years rates. In my state you can change suppliers, but it's only a matter of months before the introductory rate is over and you're right back up. The dig isn't movies and groceries- you can make adjustments there- it's housing and energy and transportation in a world where wages are slow to catch up. It'll turn around...good and bad times come and go.

My wife and I spend on average about seventy dollars a week on groceries. I cannot imagine a world where someone is, regularly, spending 50 to 75 a meal. Yes, once in awhile we splurge and get some steaks but that doesn't happen often. We also shop sales and buy meat when it's cheaper and put it in our deep freeze.

So I can only imagine how large families with lower incomes and still working the baby steps are feeling. And, you are wrong on candy corn. It should be free so I can buy and eat it all.😂

Thank you! Not everyone can absorb a 20% increase in food costs easily. If you were spending $500 a month now you need $600 to purchase (mostly) the same items.
Compare the thrift food plans of 2019 to 2023 and the cost is probably larger than 20%. Usually food fluctuates and becomes cheaper again but the last few years it has only increased. In recent years that increase is much steeper.

Cable companies priced themselves out of business for me several years ago. Lumber is outrageous. A pack of 6 interlocking wood panels at Home Depot was $17 a few years ago and has almost doubled since then. Food has had some increases but nothing outrageous. It pays to be familiar with prices. I will go to a few different supermarkets because they each have better deals on some items. I don't own a printer. I have stopped or greatly limited buying some things altogether.

I agree with the grocery take for three reasons:
    1) People would rather shop at Target (or Central Market or HEB) over Walmart (or Aldi or Costco).
    2) People want name brand when generic products are typically made the exact same way, sometimes in the exact same factories, and are up to half the price.
    3) People want premade/prebutchered groceries. For the price of one package of precut/trimmed chicken breasts, I get TWO WHOLE CHICKENS (so same amount of chicken breats) that I butcher to use across multiple meals throughout our week.
I got our grocery budget for a family of 5 down from $1200 a month to $800 a month just by making the changes I stated above

Most of the time, when we eat out, we are doing fast food or take out. Health care is another thing that is way overpriced, but it always has been since the 80s at least. Great video! Inflation is a hot item these days.... as it should always be. That said, inflation based on legitimate production cost increases is understandable. If it costs more to produce XYZ , therefore, we must increase the price to maintain profit margins, keep jobs, etc. Unfortunately, we don't live in a society where that information is transparent. There are many companies that did not see an increase in cost to their underlying COGS, but because of the pandemic, they saw an excuse to increase margins and blame it on supply chain or logistical issues. Is it ethical? It's profitable and sadly, that's all that matters.

Here's another theory on why airport food costs more. It may not actually be owned by the same company as the normal restaurant. Instead the normal restaurant, let's say Brinker International, licenses the restaurant (in this case Chili's) to another company. That company then increases price to account for licensing fees and also plausibly owns numerous different restaurants in the airport.

I have an old laser printer. I only changed the toner once in 10 years. To date I wouldn't replace it because I don't print practically anything (I'll just go to the store and print there if and when I really need) but if you need to print every now and then I think the laser ones are better. They will last a long time and they will cost a lot only in the beginning.

It’s not just the price of groceries that the issue, it’s that they are charging more for less. And you can’t look at prices changes for just one year. Saying prices of XYZ food items decreased from this point last year ignores the increase of twice that during the pandemic.

In my area, the price of bacon doubled about a year ago, and has stayed consistent. So not really sure about that statistic 😕
