I heard Bill using an E-bow while sitting outside of the Celebrity Theater in Phx., Az in 77'(?). I had bought the ticket for BBD, he was doing a sound check. I sat down on the steps and was in dreamland for about 10 minutes. HE WENT OFF!! The show was extremely well done. that night.
When people ask me who my favorite guitarist of all time is I tell them that I have two: Bill Nelson and Phil Keaggy. I cringe when the response comes back of, "Who's Bill Nelson?" It is then that I get to tell them of all the MAGNIFICENT music that he has made over the years. He is an amazing musician...
Wow, Phil Keaggy. Haven’t heard that name in many years. Being from NE Ohio, I remember Phil’s group from the 70’s, Glass Harp very, very well and actually saw them live once as the opening act for Canned Heat. Unfortunately, I’ve heard very little from him since then, but what I have heard was still impressive.
Contemplation is just simply one of the greatest songs ever! Had both American and import copies of the LP and then the remastered as well Had the pleasure of seeing it played live,in 84. Blew the fuckind place apart!!
I got a promotional copy of this album by accident in '86 when I was 14 years old. I knew someone who worked for a radio station and he had requested something else for me from the record company (CBS?), but they sent this by mistake. Well, I was happy they got the request wrong, because I love this album and may never have heard of Bill Nelson otherwise.
Would I raise the ire of Bill Nelson fans everywhere by thinking this is like his 'Avalon' ? It's smooth and melodic and totally mesmerizing. I feel warmer just listening to it. The Love That Whirls remains my favorite by him but this shoots to the second slot with a bullet. A real gem this one.
This album just got remastered, on September of last year. I just got this album and contains tons of goodies. A 2cd set containing all b-sides and and about 3-4 songs that didn't make the album. The favorite album with out a doubt, Bill Nelson at its finest
Such a fantastic "collection" of artfully rendered musical compositions! Difficult to choose a favorite album of Bill's; this one is definitely up there at the top of my list. And to think one has a rather fucked up challenge finding this on those crap fed streaming app environments. Oh well...Thank the gods of TH-cam for uploading this wonderful gem!! Muchos Gracias to the Nth power Barb5150! Oh, Oh....solid mix here 4shore! It mixes like MFer on my sound board - so, so clean in the mids. I can floor the hell out it - no clipping what so ever. I read that this album was influential to Bowie's "Earthling"; only takes one listen to hear the truth in that. "Earthling" is in my top ten LPs all time; i've listened to it enough times to hear the same structures and production in Bill Nelson's excellent album.
I believe that was Bills After the Satellite Sings album. The jungle sound was noted to catch bowies ear and you can hear it I think on Battle For Brittan
Years ago a friend made a cassette of this for me which I later played in another friend's car on the way to a Spurs away match. Even in that inauspicious setting it was obviously a major album. The man is a genius.
It's still Getting the Holy Ghost Across as far as I'm concerned. Fundamentalist Americans can lump it! What would Jesus do? Turn it up loud and enjoy it, that's what.
Ironic indeed, as I happen to be a Calvinist / Disciple of Christ (Adherents d'Hécate, "the Observant"). Bill's not ironic: touched by the Spirit indeed! Or "whatchamacallit." - WORKS 4 ME! cheers! - Rosie-Anne Quvus aka bonze blayk!
I'm not familiar with this album though I do recognize one song, must be on another album of his. This album is odd and pretty funky. It sounded like Bowie and Prince in places, but also something else. I looked up who played on it and saw that Dick Morrisey played sax and that clicked this thought into my head. This album came out a few years after Numan's Warriors album. I wonder if Nelson used ideas that Numan rejected. Just a thought.
I don't know whether Bill and Gary ever had any kind of relationship, working or otherwise inspirational… Bill is such an odd duck, like the ultimate quirky artschool genius taking off from Jean Cocteau and landing on another place… A-#1 guitar genius in my book. "Ethereal." - thanks! - Rosie-Anne
Bill played on and produced an album for GN, but in his wisdom, GN remixed the whole thing. Bill was slightly miffed by this, so had his name removed from all the end product.

Numan followed Bill and it’s clear he got his inspiration from Bill, hence why he wanted Bill to produce and mix his album.

Thank you! The transfer was done with an unplayed copy of the LP using the RIAA phono inputs on a TASCAM M-164UF (16-channel mixer with effects and USB 2.0) and OK Technics turntable and Grado needle - nothing fancy, but nice results! First song similar to G Dead "roll away the dew", and uses a guitar tone like one of Jerry's favored soloing tones- the "whickity-wah" sound. Just observations, nothing more.

Most interesting description of an upload I ever read, and thank you for both the music and the read. And, at the risk of contradicting myself, goddamn all religion to Hell. Btw, word on the blogosphere is that Jesus Christ has been fired from his position as Son of God and been replaced by Phil Lynott, the late singer of Thin Lizzy. It is not our place to question why. But pass it on. If we don't treat Phil Lynott, who died for His own sins, with proper reverence, that bloodthirsty, maniacal, invisible sky wizard we grovel before will have another hissy fit and drown us all again. I actually like Think Lizzy. They're way more exciting than Jesus ever was.
This is fantastic, like it or not it is most reminiscent of Bowie, something Bill vehemently dislikes... but hey ho... its all a matter of taste-roids and opin-onions ✊️😳 x
