For me this is one of the most psychedelic, intense, emotional and at times scary songs the Dead ever played. Phil's killing it. Great mix.
Anytime I need a show, 7/19/74 is my go to show. The whole set is amazing.
WRS is a highly underrated piece of music, even within the GD canon. It’s often overshadowed by Terrapin even though it’s outstanding in its own right. Love this version

WRS is an extraordinary piece of music, with very profound lyrics. I don't understand why they just dropped it so soon.
I love WRS, and, of course I love Phil Lesh, and want to hear every note he plays distinctly. However, I don't enjoy recordings which are mixed with Phil so loud that the bass totally overwhelms every other instrument and vocal. The bass is an incredibly powerful instrument; it can put out a HUGE amount of sound pressure, just because the low frequencies push so much more air. There are a couple of other 74 WRSs on TH-cam that are much better balanced.

This is one of my favorites that Bob sings, I think it's nothing short of a fukin masterpiece!!

I love that the Dead could sing and play with instruments out of tune and not even care. The energy was just so damn hot it didn't matter.. Most of us, if we play music, are terrified to make a mistake during a performance. Those kind of thoughts can inhibit one from exploring and being creative. These guys favored novelty over perfection.

We have been called, derisively, the Peace and Love Generation, yet I couldn't be prouder. For I recognized and have always known God's Love in the music of the Dead. Therein were my eyes opened. I AM, God is the All, God is love, and Love is All, As goes another tune, We are all, we are on our own. Unimaginably Beautiful and The Greatest of News, and it's always been right in front of us! Dead Shows were church, and there I talked to Him, at will, in communion with our tribe and the Almighty. Weather Report Suite remains my favorite Church Hymn to this day, and I will always remain Grateful. It's amazing though, how few, even of our tribe, can see the incredible importance of what we did, and were, at that crucial time. Thank you, Robert Hunter. Namaste

just as psychedelic as it can be , we remember always how good time was in youth , there was no problems , we grew strong even if some closed the last door , do you feel that time has changed ? love is still to be heard in these songs , peace with your mind

Totally amazing; the entire band is so tight. Phil is shredding up a storm dropping bombs, Jerry on fire & his voice is magnificent on the eerie and gorgeous China Doll. Thank you for this epic post

That Pacific Northwest '74 box set is one of my favorites!
That '73 Vancouver show is my 2nd FAVORITE show of all time, right behind Veneta '72. This WRS is equally sublime and majestic.

Excellent sound mix. Garcia, Weir and Lesh's guitars are wonderfully clear and separated.

I just got done listening to 2 hours of early 70s Miles Davis before checking this out. So clear to hear how Miles was such a massive influence on their free form.
Miles was on the Bleeding Edge of music his whole solo career. Inspirational to so many!

The Weather Report is just great great great,. The mix is all Bobby, which is not a bad thing but Jerry is lost and Phil is to high up therefor distorting. Again, this is spectacle. Given the quality recording the mix could have made this an off the charts beyond the pale share. Thanks for uploading this and it is a pleasurable listen. Thanks Again

holy mollyfoggin manure !!! but then 1974 has always been my favorite year of GD. 1985 is a close second. but they were so jazzy in 74. listen to miles davis' agaterra or pangea from 74 and hear what miles' was doing and what the dead were doing at the same time. just me. you can agree or disagree.
+reblahuty63 Exactly, I wish this period would have gone on longer they hit their stride by this point. The music had matured so much by this point and the sound was absolutely beautiful from the wall, there is no other time period for me that does it like 74. Then the hiatus, that just broke this up completely and went to the formula they stuck with until the end. Set 1. Set 2. Drums/Space. etc. Sure we have the classic 77 shows but 74 is it for me.

This is probably my favorite Spanish Jam and I've always thought Jerry's distorted lead sounds like Miles with distortion on his trumpet.

Every time I hear a live Dead set, I get choked up for two reasons: desperate sadness that I never got to see Jerry live (died less than a year after I was born) and unspeakable jubilation that I at least was born after and not have died before the Dead ever came into existence, for I can at least enjoy them in recording :) how lucky the world is after those fateful experimental times in Palo Alto with Keesey, truly blessed to be able to experience this amazing music ❤️⚡️💙💀✌🏼
And of course, let’s not forget the Dead are still live to this day, can’t wait for the Hollywood bowl, barely a month away now! Gunna be my 6th Dead&Co show, can’t wait to see y’all there! 😁❤️⚡️💙✌🏼
