16:45 I'm an illustrator. I was 13 when this movie hit theaters, and the scene of Jack drawing Rose _enchanted_ me. Once it came out on VHS I nearly wore the tape out from re-watching the bits of (James Cameron's hands) the picture being drawn over and over and over and over. I tried pausing the video and drawing her myself, always thinking that god I want to be able to draw like that someday. Years went by, the fad of this movie passed, I kept working on my craft and eventually went to art school where I earned my BFA in illustration while being fascinated with figure drawing, human anatomy, and capturing emotion in my illustration work via body language and facial expression. About five years ago I was talking about movies with one of my friends and this movie came up, which of course made me immediately think of the drawing scene and how I had tried drawing her myself when I was so much younger. I decided, for shits and giggles, to try it again 20+ years later, and found a screenshot of Rose posing on the couch, and started drawing. I got to my "someday" and it was one of the most satisfying moments ever. 😄
Survivor. Frank Goldsmith lived near the Detroit Tigers stadium. He said that every time there was a homerun, it sounded like the screams of the people in the water.

Here's what I love about what they did with this movie...they made the characters in the beginning so determined to get the jewel, that they never really stopped too think about the HORROR those people went through.
You mentioned wanting to see how the practical effects were done? There’s an entire documentary that is half about the families of the survivors and half about the effects. Totally worth watching.
I don't know why people keep saying the rudder was too small for the ship, it really wasn't. The ship's rudder was specially designed for it. It was massive. In fact, the Titanic and her sister were incredibly maneuverable. The Olympic was praised heavily for this. The fact is, there just wasn't enough time to turn out the way. The bulkhead height is overstated as a problem, as they were pretty tall, the real "problem" if you like was the fact they weren't sealed off at the top. These are just myths in reality, but impressive knowledge I must say.
Thomas Andrews gave the ship 90 minutes at best to live before she sank. In the end she lasted 2hrs40 minutes which shows you the efforts of the men below in the boiler and engine rooms keeping her afloat for as long as possible and keeping her power/lights on to. It's sad to think that the lifeboats could have saved 400+ people if they were all full to capacity
All things considered, I'm not so sure. It was really hard to convince people to get on the lifeboats at first and if they waited much longer between launches, they would have never managed to launch all of them. It was already a near thing with the last collapsibles.
Fact: William Murdoch did not shoot himself or others. In fact people said that he was very calm and helpfull on the night Titanic sank. James Cameron later apologized to William Murdochs family for the way he wrongly portraied him in this movie. Rest in peace William Murdoch and all the other people who died on this night😥❤
Murdochs shooting himself is based on several witnesses that claimed that an officer shot himself on the ship 🚢 shortly before it sank, end it became widely rumored that Murdoch was that officer. Plus no personal apology from Cameron was ever given “,only $5000 were donated to Murdochs family.
Very dodgy use of the word ‘fact’ here. There’s no evidence to disprove the theory that Murdoch killed himself (equally no strong evidence to prove he did either) but there’s very strong evidence an officer did shoot two people and himself. Murdoch is one of the candidates according to the evidence. Not trying to be mean but please don’t claim things to be fact when they are not.
It's called creative license. James wrote the script and it's his artful interpretation. Not everything on board was accurate. Really who knew how he died?
Interesting Fact: the drunk chef at 29:36 was a real person, Charles Joughin. He was able to live because of all the alcohol he had in his body and it kept him warm enough until rescuers came
That sounds like a tall tale; alcohol makes you FEEL warmer, because it opens up the capillaries in your skin and increases blood flow - but this actually makes you colder, as it allows heat to dissipate from your body faster. What likely saved him is he seems to have been a bit on the heavy-set side, so the body fat would insulate to some extent, and also add buoyancy to his body. Salt water is also denser than sweet water, making it easier to stay at the surface, and thus not drown. So he survived despite being drunk, not because of it. :)

He was an Icelandic fisherman who survived swimming in 5°c water for several hours after his boat sank. Then when he got to shore he had to walk another few hours in freezing conditions before he got to someone's house. He didn't even have hypothermia. When scientists did tests on him they realised his body fat was similar to seal blubber and this must have been what allowed him to survive. I like to think he must be a selkie. There's a movie about it called "The Deep".

The sad thing I heard about the orchestra is that the father of one of the players was given a bill by White Star Lines for his ruined uniform! I mean WTF, he died while wearing it you jerks!
The old couple on the bed cuddled up together are based on the owners of Macy's department store as according to survivers records they were last seen in each others arms as the ship sank as his wife would not get on a boat. .
There’s a whole documentary on the making of the movie. Worth checking out. The underwater scenes was a mix of actual footage of the ship and small scale models. There was some CGI used, such as the wide helicopter like shot used with Jacks “king of the world” scene. Even for 1997 technology it’s still impressive and doesn’t look too dated today. They built the ship to pretty much the size of the real one at the fox studios in Mexico and used lifts and special camera angles to give the sinking a realistic look. Some trivial: The older couple in the bed as the ship was sinking were based on a real life couple Isidor and Ida Straus who were the owners of the Macy’s department store.
8:40 The rudder being too small is a very common myth, Titanic’s rudder was actually rather large for the time and more than capable of turning her. People point to the rudder as a problem because of the failure to avoid the iceberg but this wasn’t a rudder issue. When Murdoch became aware of the ice he did a few things which are shown in the movie, he first ordered “HARD A’STARBOARD” which is a tiller command meaning turn the wheel hard to port and he then ordered the engines full astern. Ordering the engines full astern seems like a good idea however it would kill the Titanic’s momentum and slow the ship resulting in a lower turning speed, the propellers could not spin fast enough in the time given to reverse Titanic and the dissipation if her momentum would ultimately lead to the collision, not the rudder!
Fred Barratt was working in the engine room. He said they got the order from the bridge to stop the engines but didn't have enough time to do so before the collision happened. The engines being put in reverse seems to be another myth.
And Cameron is opposite handed to leo so they had to reverse the entire set for him to do sketch and then flip the film to make look like Leo was the one sketching
Some Titanic tidbits. It is true that there were no binoculars aboard. An office, Davis Blair, was set to sail on the ship as second officer but his contract was ended as White Star want the more experienced Office Wilde for the maiden voyage and he departed in England. He forgot to hand over the locker keys to the binoculars. It would not have matter anyways, with no moon that night and a dead still sea, there were no breakers at the base of the iceburg for lookouts to see in time. Also the burg may have been black ice, and thus showing no light reflections. Adding to the iceberg damage, a few years ago photgraphs were found showing the Titanic had 30 foot long burn marks on it's hull, near where the iceberg would strike. It is considered that a fire started about 3 weeks prior in the coal room, which was butted up against the single skinned hull. The fire was not reported, nor contained, in fear of bad press and launch delays. Structural engineers conclude that the fire would have weaked and added to the resulting impact damage 3 weeks later. Also all officers are trained to skim around an obsticle, but had the ship struck the ice head on, it would have crumped the from 2 or 3 compartments, but most engineers agree she would have floated with the damage. On April 10 1912 the S.S. New York broke away from its ties and nearly collided with the Titanic's stern.
The sets for this movie were astounding. That one slow motion shot with them runing with a giant wall of water behind them gets me every time and you can see the panic in Kates face hahaha
Yes, most of the film was practical. They built a giant set, & filled the tank with water because James Cameron wanted it to be as real as possible. He also used a lot of scaled miniatures. There are great making of behind the scenes documentaries on this film.

Jack was way too good for her. She let her mother live the rest of her life believing her daughter had died, and when she dies she “returns” to a guy she knew for 2 days and had a 1 night stand with?She was a spoiled brat. James Cameron was the one who sketched the character Rose for the movie, he is an Artist on so many levels James Cameron has also made many dives to the Titantic site and one of a few people in the world who has gone to the Mariana Trench, at nearly seven miles below the water's surface. For the dive, Cameron designed a 24-foot submersible vehicle, the Deepsea Challenger.
James...yes, as astounding as it may seem, the binoculars were actually locked in a cabinet, and the officer who had the key to pen that cabinet had been replaced at the last minute, and the key never made it onto the ship on that fateful trip.
As great as it seems to have them however, the binoculars wouldn’t have helped much do to a phenomenon called a “cold weather mirage” and the flat calm of the ocean that night.

David Blair was Second Officer until Captain Smith requested Henry Wilde to be his Chief Officer, Fred Fleet later said he would have seen the iceberg sooner with binoculars but at the subsequent hearing ait was deemed binoculars were nor desirable as the tend to localise vision
34:59 😂 I watched this movie 4 times in cinemas. Catching more and more of the historical details Cameron managed to squeeze into the plot or background is just amazing 💙
The water in the halls was actually cold. Not freezing, but Cameron wanted the actors to feel a little of what it would have felt like. When Kate Winslet goes into the water in the hall she audibly gasps because the water really was cold. Much of the stunts were real, however scenes like the person who falls overboard and hits the propeller was CGI. CGI wasn’t as advanced as it is now. Scenes of the ship in motion you can see the animation of the people on deck. Much of the water scenes with people floating in the water were real. I loved the people sliding down the deck. They were stuntmen and women laying on little sleds. The reason it was over 3 hours was that James Cameron wanted the sinking part to take the actual time it took from hitting the iceberg to sinking, which was 2 hours 40 minutes.
Useless trivia: The “Irish” lady that tells her kids that once the first class passengers are off then it will be their turn, and later seen tucking her kids into bed as the ship is sinking, is the same actress that played Vasquez in Aliens
Nearer My God To Thee that was played by the band as the ship sank is not the tune most Americans know. It had the same lyrics but the tune was from an English hymnal and different.
Another fun fact…Kate winslet and Leo are best friends in reality. Her kids call him uncle and he helped her with divorce and stuff…they have always supported each other since this film

I've liked Leo since "what's eating gilbert grape?"& every movie i've seen him in. "The quick & the dead", "shutter island", "inception" & though i couldn't imagine him as Howard Hughes in "the aviator" or as J Edgar Hoover in "j edgar" he was perfect in both roles.
The ship that sunk was not the Titanic but the sister ship, the Olympic and it was intentionally sunk for insurance. There is an excellent documentary on TH-cam laying out the details. Many years ago I became friends with a member of the Ismay family, who owned the White Star Line.

So the drawing was actually James Cameron drawing and the person who played rose granddaughter is James Cameron wife in reality. James Cameron has been to titanic like 4 times…I’ve been lucky to visit exhibition in vegas and was extremely emotional but amazing too. I’m a huge film fan of this and love the history of it too. James Cameron to this day still questions if he got film right….I’ve watched loads of documentaries. He said jack had to die because the quote was about making each day count…he died for her and she lived for him and did everything they said they would do. She died and went to be with him…reason I know she is dead at end everyone in room died that is there. She put heart of ocean with titanic as her heart belongs with jack. Also another fact is they did play violins till end, the old couple was real….there was a lot of characters in film based on real people only odd ones made up…molly brown and people rose was around was real people…it’s fascinating the couple died had a shit load of money…but she refused to leave her husband as he couldn’t get a boat. So they died together. It’s tragic. So many things about titanic history…by the way…the boat at beginning is the actual titanic…I’ve been lucky to see it in reality, we’ll belongings and side of it that took 2 years to get up from bottom of ocean.
An 80-something % scale model of the ship was made for some of the sinking scenes and interior, maybe all of them. I saw this movie by myself in theaters, I went for the ship, I don't normally see romance movies.
You marveled at the Grand Staircase and clock. If you go to either Branson, MO or Pigeon Forge, TN; there are Titanic Museums at both location that have actual life sized replicas of the Grand Staircase with a clock that you walk on to get to the next level of the museum. Flaw no. 3; they used the wrong color flare rockets. There is a certain color to signal distress, and a few ships did see the rockets, but since they weren't distress colors they figured them as celebratory rockets and didn't check it out. The other ships didn't use wireless code so they didn't get the CQD message.
I wish I grew up in Iowa. I like to read and would enjoy the simple life, especially the farmer life. Glad you have time to catch up on years of pop culture stuff. Happy to subscribe.
The reason that one of the crewmen told the women that they might’ve blew a propeller blade was either 1 of two things…..1: he probably didn’t know that they had it an iceberg or 2: the crew was aware but didn’t wanna scare the passengers so they tried to keep them calm, by saying that they blew a propeller blade or anything like that.
My favorite movie of all time and I couldn't give a fig for Rose & Jack. Been a Titanic nut since 12, this movie was flippin amazing! Sets, scale, realistic CGI, lighting, costuming, were on point. Titanic is on par with the blockbuster classics; The Sound of music, Ben Hur, The Wizard of OZ and Gone With the Wind. Well Done James! 2 studios came together to make this blockbuster. It was expensive in 1995/1996.
With the ship in 2 main pieces, kinda hard to bring back up. When the horrible movie "Raise The Titanic" was filmed and played, the real Big T had not been found yet. Sadly, with the microbes eating it on the ocean's floor, scientists predict there will be no Titanic in about 20 years.
Some time after this release james Cameron released an interactive CD-Rom called Titanic explorer with 4 discs i think. Where you could jump around the videos recorded by those robots as they explored the wreck. Cameron and certain members of the crew went down to the wreck personally several times. Of course there was also an encyclopedia of facts and timelines along with it. Fascinating. There is a game called Titanic: Adventure out of Time, Where you play a spy that had been on the Titanic and you get sent back to stop an event. Real immersion. You could actually tour the ship and see up close as near to photo quality as they could get all the remarkable detail. The clock was awesome. Btw; that car you see was the only one on board and was to go to some wealthy person. I think it was a Rolls. You get to see that up close in the game too.

I always thought of this movie as a chick flick, and then I watched it and had the same thought. With that being said I really liked this movie. I will say I have seen it around 7 times. I haven't watched since 2001. Great reaction!
I liked your reaction, but to be honest, I prefer the film A Night To Remember, based on the book by Walter Lord and the film Titanic with Clifton Webb and Barbara Stanwyck. My go to is A Night To Remember, definitely under 3 hrs. You may enjoy these films
I could never really accept the Jack- Rose romance. To me Leo looked like he was 12 or 14 the whole time to Rose's 18-20. Winslet went on to make several brilliant movies including The Reader and The Mountain Between Us.
Idk if you watched it, but try The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. It’s just under 3 hours but besides Titanic, that’s the only other 3 hour movie I’ve seen that didn’t feel that long. Very different movies but if you wanna watch one of the classic spaghetti westerns, I recommend it. Ecstasy of Gold is one of my favorite iconic movie songs.
3 hrs 14 minutes...the length of the movie is the same length of time it took the Titanic to sink after it struck the iceberg. Nice attention to detail.
According to Walter Lord and the research he did (interviews w survivors, etc.), no one saw the ship break in two above the surface of the water - it did that just BELOW the surface.
Solutely loved this film. I have a fondness for a few of the older films like the night to remember and Titanic 1953. For someone who enjoys reading these have a more dramatic feel think you would appreciate. They don't necessarily go with your film listing from the last 40 years those movies are much older. But I do I highly recommend them. James Cameron was a genius. Hope you continue with his films

How much was practical and how much was CG??? This is found footage... they found a memory card attached to a car keyfob for the auto-lock feature of the car that Jack & Rose used as their "sin-bin" in the safe they pulled up from the wreck. They found several laptop computers but the files were corrupted by seawater. Who knows what was on them, what computer games did they play in 1911? LOL... A neighbor of mine found the first silent film made about the Titanic in 1912 and thought it was real footage. I had the hardest time convincing her it was a Hollywood movie. Young people are very out of touch with the concept of history & time.
Oh and the scene where he draws her naked that was first scene they did together…James Cameron liked the bit he said “the bed, the couch” so much he kept it in.
I hope you at least liked the movie even if you wouldn't watch it again. All the Characters not directly connected to Jack and Rose were real passengers. James Cameron was the hand that drew Rose. He also went down to Titanic. THis Movie broke all sorts of records at the Box office before being knocked of by Avatar
I've enjoyed multiple James Cameron movies, I would have just rather enjoyed a true life story about one of the surviving passengers instead of made up people.

Honestly another great movie you should check out and is tougher than this one. But then again both based on true stories. But the movie I am suggesting, Pearl Harbor. Try watching that movie.

Andrew wasn't far off with the half capcity. With the ship carrying 2'207 people and th lifeboats capacity 1'178 there was space for 53%

There’s a whole documentary on the making of the movie. Worth checking out. The underwater scenes was a mix of actual footage of the ship and small scale models. There was some CGI used, such as the wide helicopter like shot used with Jacks “king of the world” scene. Even for 1997 technology it’s still impressive and doesn’t look too dated today.
They built the ship to pretty much the size of the real one at the fox studios in Mexico and used lifts and special camera angles to give the sinking a realistic look.
Some trivial:
The older couple in the bed as the ship was sinking were based on a real life couple Isidor and Ida Straus who were the owners of the Macy’s department store.
8:40 The rudder being too small is a very common myth, Titanic’s rudder was actually rather large for the time and more than capable of turning her. People point to the rudder as a problem because of the failure to avoid the iceberg but this wasn’t a rudder issue. When Murdoch became aware of the ice he did a few things which are shown in the movie, he first ordered “HARD A’STARBOARD” which is a tiller command meaning turn the wheel hard to port and he then ordered the engines full astern. Ordering the engines full astern seems like a good idea however it would kill the Titanic’s momentum and slow the ship resulting in a lower turning speed, the propellers could not spin fast enough in the time given to reverse Titanic and the dissipation if her momentum would ultimately lead to the collision, not the rudder!
Fred Barratt was working in the engine room. He said they got the order from the bridge to stop the engines but didn't have enough time to do so before the collision happened. The engines being put in reverse seems to be another myth.
If "a'starboard" means to turn to port, why does "a'stern" mean exactly what it sounds like, instead of the opposite?
Apparently James Cameron was the one who did the drawing of Rose in the movie. He’s very talented!
And Cameron is opposite handed to leo so they had to reverse the entire set for him to do sketch and then flip the film to make look like Leo was the one sketching

Some Titanic tidbits. It is true that there were no binoculars aboard. An office, Davis Blair, was set to sail on the ship as second officer but his contract was ended as White Star want the more experienced Office Wilde for the maiden voyage and he departed in England. He forgot to hand over the locker keys to the binoculars. It would not have matter anyways, with no moon that night and a dead still sea, there were no breakers at the base of the iceburg for lookouts to see in time. Also the burg may have been black ice, and thus showing no light reflections.
Adding to the iceberg damage, a few years ago photgraphs were found showing the Titanic had 30 foot long burn marks on it's hull, near where the iceberg would strike. It is considered that a fire started about 3 weeks prior in the coal room, which was butted up against the single skinned hull. The fire was not reported, nor contained, in fear of bad press and launch delays. Structural engineers conclude that the fire would have weaked and added to the resulting impact damage 3 weeks later.
Also all officers are trained to skim around an obsticle, but had the ship struck the ice head on, it would have crumped the from 2 or 3 compartments, but most engineers agree she would have floated with the damage.
On April 10 1912 the S.S. New York broke away from its ties and nearly collided with the Titanic's stern.

Yes, most of the film was practical. They built a giant set, & filled the tank with water because James Cameron wanted it to be as real as possible. He also used a lot of scaled miniatures. There are great making of behind the scenes documentaries on this film.
At the end, when Rose threw the heart-shaped diamond into the ocean, she was metaphorically giving her heart to jack.
She killed Jack. She married afterwards but apparently could not care less for the guy who spent a life time caring for her.

James Cameron was the one who sketched the character Rose for the movie, he is an Artist on so many levels James Cameron has also made many dives to the Titantic site and one of a few people in the world who has gone to the Mariana Trench, at nearly seven miles below the water's surface. For the dive, Cameron designed a 24-foot submersible vehicle, the Deepsea Challenger.
James...yes, as astounding as it may seem, the binoculars were actually locked in a cabinet, and the officer who had the key to pen that cabinet had been replaced at the last minute, and the key never made it onto the ship on that fateful trip.
As great as it seems to have them however, the binoculars wouldn’t have helped much do to a phenomenon called a “cold weather mirage” and the flat calm of the ocean that night.

David Blair was Second Officer until Captain Smith requested Henry Wilde to be his Chief Officer, Fred Fleet later said he would have seen the iceberg sooner with binoculars but at the subsequent hearing ait was deemed binoculars were nor desirable as the tend to localise vision

I watched this movie 4 times in cinemas. Catching more and more of the historical details Cameron managed to squeeze into the plot or background is just amazing 💙
The water in the halls was actually cold. Not freezing, but Cameron wanted the actors to feel a little of what it would have felt like. When Kate Winslet goes into the water in the hall she audibly gasps because the water really was cold. Much of the stunts were real, however scenes like the person who falls overboard and hits the propeller was CGI. CGI wasn’t as advanced as it is now. Scenes of the ship in motion you can see the animation of the people on deck. Much of the water scenes with people floating in the water were real. I loved the people sliding down the deck. They were stuntmen and women laying on little sleds. The reason it was over 3 hours was that James Cameron wanted the sinking part to take the actual time it took from hitting the iceberg to sinking, which was 2 hours 40 minutes.
The diamond was called “ The Heart of the Ocean” that’s why she threw it back into the ocean at the end so she could die in peace.
Useless trivia: The “Irish” lady that tells her kids that once the first class passengers are off then it will be their turn, and later seen tucking her kids into bed as the ship is sinking, is the same actress that played Vasquez in Aliens

The ship that sunk was not the Titanic but the sister ship, the Olympic and it was intentionally sunk for insurance. There is an excellent documentary on TH-cam laying out the details.

Very educational. I never knew about the bulkheads and rudder. I always assumed once you get hit by an iceberg, regardless how the ship was built, that was it.

So the drawing was actually James Cameron drawing and the person who played rose granddaughter is James Cameron wife in reality. James Cameron has been to titanic like 4 times…I’ve been lucky to visit exhibition in vegas and was extremely emotional but amazing too. I’m a huge film fan of this and love the history of it too. James Cameron to this day still questions if he got film right….I’ve watched loads of documentaries. He said jack had to die because the quote was about making each day count…he died for her and she lived for him and did everything they said they would do. She died and went to be with him…reason I know she is dead at end everyone in room died that is there. She put heart of ocean with titanic as her heart belongs with jack. Also another fact is they did play violins till end, the old couple was real….there was a lot of characters in film based on real people only odd ones made up…molly brown and people rose was around was real people…it’s fascinating the couple died had a shit load of money…but she refused to leave her husband as he couldn’t get a boat. So they died together. It’s tragic. So many things about titanic history…by the way…the boat at beginning is the actual titanic…I’ve been lucky to see it in reality, we’ll belongings and side of it that took 2 years to get up from bottom of ocean.
An 80-something % scale model of the ship was made for some of the sinking scenes and interior, maybe all of them.
I saw this movie by myself in theaters, I went for the ship, I don't normally see romance movies.

You marveled at the Grand Staircase and clock. If you go to either Branson, MO or Pigeon Forge, TN; there are Titanic Museums at both location that have actual life sized replicas of the Grand Staircase with a clock that you walk on to get to the next level of the museum. Flaw no. 3; they used the wrong color flare rockets. There is a certain color to signal distress, and a few ships did see the rockets, but since they weren't distress colors they figured them as celebratory rockets and didn't check it out. The other ships didn't use wireless code so they didn't get the CQD message.

The reason that one of the crewmen told the women that they might’ve blew a propeller blade was either 1 of two things…..1: he probably didn’t know that they had it an iceberg or 2: the crew was aware but didn’t wanna scare the passengers so they tried to keep them calm, by saying that they blew a propeller blade or anything like that.
I think it's the latter. Just keep everyone calm. Heck even the crew probably didn't know what was going on

My favorite movie of all time and I couldn't give a fig for Rose & Jack. Been a Titanic nut since 12, this movie was flippin amazing! Sets, scale, realistic CGI, lighting, costuming, were on point. Titanic is on par with the blockbuster classics; The Sound of music, Ben Hur, The Wizard of OZ and Gone With the Wind. Well Done James! 2 studios came together to make this blockbuster. It was expensive in 1995/1996.
There are some really good dramatizations and documentaries of the Thai caves rescue. One of the recused boys attends school in the US.
With the ship in 2 main pieces, kinda hard to bring back up. When the horrible movie "Raise The Titanic" was filmed and played, the real Big T had not been found yet. Sadly, with the microbes eating it on the ocean's floor, scientists predict there will be no Titanic in about 20 years.
Some time after this release james Cameron released an interactive CD-Rom called Titanic explorer with 4 discs i think. Where you could jump around the videos recorded by those robots as they explored the wreck. Cameron and certain members of the crew went down to the wreck personally several times. Of course there was also an encyclopedia of facts and timelines along with it. Fascinating. There is a game called Titanic: Adventure out of Time, Where you play a spy that had been on the Titanic and you get sent back to stop an event. Real immersion. You could actually tour the ship and see up close as near to photo quality as they could get all the remarkable detail. The clock was awesome. Btw; that car you see was the only one on board and was to go to some wealthy person. I think it was a Rolls. You get to see that up close in the game too.

According to some friends of mine who saw this movie when it was in the theaters, they'd had ab intermission midway thorough the movie
The film is actually timed to the actual timing of the events - the time it took to sink.
But it moved, didn't drag on. The length is perfect. Actually I'd like them to add the 2 mins where Rose has a hissy fit, before running to the end.
I probably said this before; the style of the time is so very sumptuous. Art Deco is my favorite.
I always thought of this movie as a chick flick, and then I watched it and had the same thought. With that being said I really liked this movie. I will say I have seen it around 7 times. I haven't watched since 2001. Great reaction!
I liked your reaction, but to be honest, I prefer the film A Night To Remember, based on the book by Walter Lord and the film Titanic with Clifton Webb and Barbara Stanwyck. My go to is A Night To Remember, definitely under 3 hrs. You may enjoy these films
I could never really accept the Jack- Rose romance. To me Leo looked like he was 12 or 14 the whole time to Rose's 18-20. Winslet went on to make several brilliant movies including The Reader and The Mountain Between Us.

Idk if you watched it, but try The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. It’s just under 3 hours but besides Titanic, that’s the only other 3 hour movie I’ve seen that didn’t feel that long. Very different movies but if you wanna watch one of the classic spaghetti westerns, I recommend it. Ecstasy of Gold is one of my favorite iconic movie songs.

According to Walter Lord and the research he did (interviews w survivors, etc.), no one saw the ship break in two above the surface of the water - it did that just BELOW the surface.
At the time this was the most expensive movie ever made.

Solutely loved this film. I have a fondness for a few of the older films like the night to remember and Titanic 1953. For someone who enjoys reading these have a more dramatic feel think you would appreciate. They don't necessarily go with your film listing from the last 40 years those movies are much older. But I do I highly recommend them. James Cameron was a genius. Hope you continue with his films

How much was practical and how much was CG??? This is found footage... they found a memory card attached to a car keyfob for the auto-lock feature of the car that Jack & Rose used as their "sin-bin" in the safe they pulled up from the wreck. They found several laptop computers but the files were corrupted by seawater. Who knows what was on them, what computer games did they play in 1911? LOL... A neighbor of mine found the first silent film made about the Titanic in 1912 and thought it was real footage. I had the hardest time convincing her it was a Hollywood movie. Young people are very out of touch with the concept of history & time.
Oh and the scene where he draws her naked that was first scene they did together…James Cameron liked the bit he said “the bed, the couch” so much he kept it in.

He also went down to Titanic. THis Movie broke all sorts of records at the Box office before being knocked of by Avatar
