I had some boxes from my old jewelry making kit and started to sort them with your help

Most Lego enthusiasts go for sorting by type (in big categories), like:
    1. mini figures/ animals
    2. plates
    3. windows/ doors
    4. wheels
    5. general blocks
    6. printed/ sticker blocks
    7. specialty pieces
+bonus: empty tub/drawer. When you finish playing and need to clean up fast. You can sort later and have a dedicated place for it.
This way it's easy to find what you need even if you don't have a particular piece in mind. It's easy to sort if categories are made according to your family play style. Easy to put away fast when you need it.
We used to have one big tub. Great for imaginative play, but sucked for recreating sets and finding smaller pieces. So I did heavy research from Lego professionals. I'll tell you that sorting by color is the first NO. It is so time consuming to sort and gets messed up so fast. Hard to find replaceable piece ( lost original but there's a duplicate in another color that you won't look for). And it so time consuming to take down the set you've created that eventually kids won't even want to start creating. Let me tell you that my new system WORKS!

Yes that is pretty much what we do in our house.

Yeah they all say don’t sort by color but if you subsort by part types, then suddenly you can make more beautiful creations because the best designs use 3 colors in a 70%-20%-10% ratio.

We just started our Lego journey with our kid. We have over 800 bricks and are using muji 6 drawers acrylic storage, with dividers to store the bricks. One compartment for one item.

We use smaller zipper loc baggies for the three in ones and then put them all in a large clear shoe box from big lots.

I tried one of the smaller $ Tree organizers and they never put them away. I have one drawer in a Sterlite organizer that they put them all in. I also placed a small table in the room and there are fewer Legos on the floor than there were and they keep their unfinished creations on the table. So I think a designated table if you can spare the room or have one is beneficial.

I'm not seeing a link for the small tackle box type storage. You said it was from Wal-Mart but there are many listed on their site. A link would help narrow it down. Thanks!

We sort by part not colour, this way its much easier to find all the parts for a set when re building. We always use a very large sheet when playing .

    • @ThePurpleAlphabet
      @ThePurpleAlphabet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Love that system, and the sheet too - I've seen pictures of those that pout into it's own storage bag.
