White stripes on knobs: Prefer using a paper towel with mineral spirits on it. The paper towel won't get in the groove like a rag. Hit the buttons with mineral spirits first. Then, an angled little paint brush from a hobby store and Testor's white enamel paint. Mineral spirits clean off enamel. In single stokes with some mineral spirits, wipe the button. Perfect, and not effected by heat like Crayons.
Thanks so much, was having trouble getting off the 'knobs' and didn't realize that there were screws underneath. I just loosened the tombstone and pulled it out a bit and was able to get at the screws and replace the faceplate.
I got the set off of revlimiter.net so I'm not sure of the part numbers. But this has some similar info that should work: www.miata.net/garage/NA%20LED%20interior/index.html
I know it has been two years, but is there any chance you remember how you removed the stock bulbs in the HVAC module and replaced with the LEDs? I have been following your guide to the letter, and it has been extremely helpful, but currently I have the correct LEDs and no idea how to mount them in the module. Do I need to pry the incandescents out?
I think they sort of twist out. At that point, I think the bulb will release. Although there was one I never did get out, I think it was the one for the ac button inside the knob.
Thanks so much for posting this video. Curious - I need one of the small HVAC knob fastener screws. Do you know what size/style screw it is? I've been unable to find one at the hardware store....
Not sure if you can get them separately. You may want to try either an ebay hvac unit in very bad shape (cheap) that you can harvest them from, or there are some generic "set screw" kits containing many sizes on Amazon or similar.
I'm just replacing the faceplate, so I see no reason to have to remove the entire control panel and the cables. I can get to those lever screws from underneath. And take off the screws on the sides of the panel and pull it forward.
You mean the manual pull cables to the HVAC manifold right? They can be a pain the first time. They can't come off the control module side, it needs to be unhooked from behind the dash. There's a small clip holding it in place about 2 inches back from the end that hooks onto the plastic manifold. Push down hard on that while pulling back on the cable and it will pop out. Then you can unhook it from the vent.

Thanks for the video man, feel more comfortable doing this myself now!

@@melissabeilstein9176If you're still looking they're metric m2 screws. I used 4mm length ones with no problem
