I was curious too so I looked it up on Muse Wiki. It says there, "It is about technology and how it separates people even further rather than bringing them closer together. Also, it is the track with the infamous bubble wrap, shopping bag and skeleton bone percussion sounds, inspired by Tom Waits."

Then you should give a listen to silencio by Ibrahim ferrer, the song this one was HEAVILY inspired by. Just listen to it once, and you’ll see that Matt low key kinda ripped it off (still love him and screenager tho)
@@pedroco3l I very strongly disagree that that the tracks are “so wildly different” I’ve been a real muse fan for longer than I remember, have listened to every obscure b side and demo, and generally think ive got a decent grip of Muses sound over the years. Screenager shares the same key signature, a VERY similar guitar riff, similar vocal melodies at many parts, but most importantly, the EXACT same chord progression that leads to the main chorus of Silencio is used in the transition from verse to chorus in Screenager. The entire chord progression is 90% identical to Silencio. Neglecting these and labeling them as mere influence is actually more insulting to Ibrahim Ferrer, an equally talented musician. So muse ripped off a Cuban singer in only one of their songs, what’s the big deal?
@@SundewRed everyone plagiarises grow up. That singer probably “ripped off” another song as well, it’s what the best do. This is a good track, and most likely better than the one your suggesting. This is due to it being ten times more popular than ur Cuban friend. I’m sure Ibrahim has been just as inspired as Matt and is no where near as talented.
1:29 thats a literal hook, that is what draws you into the song. Having that in there is why the song is good. Every Muse song has on in it and its part of the allure to their music, anticipation of the hook because you just know they are gonna deliver it. It also makes you listen to songs on the albums you may have otherwise skipped.

We are alone too. Played a couple songs to an old friend, he hated them. [ his musical taste is extremely narrow though]. We are still alone in our love for Muse. Thank God for you Musers out there, we love you !
Really goes to show you how important the mixing and engineering is when it comes to the final song. I didn't really care much for this song on the original OoS but now I genuinely like it
So my psychotherapist turned out to be a relatively new Muse fan, whose working her way backwards through their stuff. We shared a love for all the classics, and agreed that Explorers from The 2nd Law is a hugely underrated gem of a song. I introduced her to Screenager after she'd asked me to describe what body dysmorphic disorder felt like to me. If it had a sound, this is it. The slightly unnerving and disturbing feeling, then the hint of something lighter and maybe even beautiful as the mental fog lifts, only for it to crash back down to the unnerving, disturbing stuff again. And so it repeats, always leaving you exactly where you started.
Digamos que no es una propuesta original, pero con el acompañamiento vocal se vuelve épica, me hace recordar a la banda sonora de la película 28 días después
Muse, you coming to New England USA?, Boston? Funny thing about you guys. I'm 27. When ever I introduce you to someone they end up going through the whole discography and being blown away. Only seen yall once. Come to the Boston area..digging the xx.
Muse touch the parts other bands cannot reach
Oh how right you are!
My favorite Muse song. Such an underappreciated track, I wish more people would hear this.

Screenager is the best track off Origin of Symmetry.
