This is for those who are interested to know the difference of teaching in earlier days (some 20 years back) and the present practice. (1) Earlier the standard English grammar book in schools was " Contemporary English Grammar Book published by McMillan". However, most of us used to refer the grammar book popularly known as " Sankaranarayanan grammar book". The reason for this is that in the latter grammar book ,in the examples the names were usually in Indian Context like Rama, Krishna . As such every body used to learn the English grammar in a Indian Context which facilitated easy grasping. (2) In most of the schools(of course in municipal/govt schools) , the chapters of Active Voice and Passive Voice starts with a standard sentence " Rama Killed Ravana" then in passive voice " Ravana was killed by Rama". Now it is about eating Cadbury. (3) In my student days there was no such notation for verbs as V1, V2, V3 like that. (4) By learning the English grammar rules and then get by heart , when I tried to implement these rules by framing sentences , I used to face a lot of difficulty , in fact it was a Herculean Task. (5) Every body speaks their mother tongue fluently even aware of the little bit grammar of that language. But for learning the alien language to the land it is necessary to know the grammar rules. ( Please note Iam not saying learning , there is a subtle difference here). Later improve your vocabulary and try to talk without shy or hesitation . Avoid inferiority complex feelings , as every body faces same kind of hiccups while learning non mother tongue languages. ThankQ for the patient reading.
