I drove a 2002 suburban for 6 years and only just retired it a little over a year ago. If I had my way I'd drive it for another 10 years, but sadly the rust was finally getting to the frame. Mine had those flaps to cover the footwell and they were very useful when folding down the middle row for cargo or traveling with dogs! That suburban was the most functional and useful vehicle I've ever driven. Newer vehicles really can't compete for quality and function.
Little backyard mechanic trick for cars that the support "arms" won't keep the trunk open is to use vise grips right under the black part of the arm. That'll keep it from falling on you without having to use a random bar that might fall down.
The GMT800 series of vehicles are some of the best vehicles EVER built by any manufacturer. 18 years have passed since they ceased building this platform and there are still hundreds of thousands if not millions still on the road. 05 Cadillac Escalade ESV owner here. Love the video on this big ole Burb!
Having owned and/or worked on several of these trucks over the years, it's safe to say that the engineers' wives didn't cheat on them with a mechanic, because they're not horrible to work on.
Your videos on older cars have really made me appreciate them a lot. It’s incredible how great a car can look just by taking care of it however long its lifespan.
The 2000-2006 year range of GM full size SUVs were some of the best. Full 6ft bed if you folded down the second row in any Tahoe or Yukon. Full 8ft bed removing third row, folding down second row and using those footwell covers in Suburban or Yukon XL. Miss my ‘03 Tahoe for this reason alone. Was nice to go to the drive in movies with an air mattress in the back or just put so much more stuff in the back than in my 2011 Yukon where the second row folds up and takes away a lot of cargo space…
I think the carpet on the doors is for people like me that like to kick their door open when getting out…prevents scuff marks on the plastic paneling. Either way, another great video Mitch, have a great weekend!
From what I understand the reason for the carpet on the doors is due to it being called a a kick panel so if your out In the mud and the. Getting back in it won't be on the floor as much. At least that's what I've been told anyway. Hope that helps
My current daily driver is a black 2002 chevy suburban and it's been in our family since 2011, we had bought it as a bank repo. I love that truck. Awesome video by the way❤
The carpeted bottom of the doors has several functions... Serves as a scuff protection for the plastic panel, also serves a purpose in dealing with NVH, noise, vibration and harshness. As well as makes more work for our favorite auto detailer!!! 😂😂😂❤❤
The carpeted door panels go way back to the 1960s carpet was more durable than the vinyl wrap. The carpet saves on scuffs on the bottom of the doors but I don’t think it’s done in any current vehicle. Nice job!
Yup! Scuffs on shoes (people do push the doors open with their feet), as well as scuffs on the hard plastic lower door panels. I wish the manufacturers would still do this, but it seems every manufacturer wants to reduce costs ...and make more profit.
From Cardiff in Wales. New to your channel, but thoroughly enjoy it. Have always been very particular with my vehicles. My first car was a 1.6 Ford Capri. It was gold, with a light beige interior. I used to keep a clean pair of shoes in the boot and swap them over when driving😂. Your content is very satisfying and quite therapeutic. 👍🏻
The carpets in the door panels could be for using your muddy foot to push open the door if you're stopped on uneven ground. Better cleaning a bit carpet than scraping a plastic door card 😀
That flap on the second row seats was amazing. It would allow for a completely flush floor from the front row to the tailgate. They got rid of them with the next redesign because the seats would not fold flush anymore. It was my mom’s favorite feature.
Man. You’ve come such a long way over the years. I remember first watching your vids about 3-4 years ago and I’ve loved all your content since I found your channel. Keep it up man. Amazing work

Sorry for late comment! This detailing job is seriously impressive. The amount of dirt and grime on that Suburban was insane but you tackled it like a pro. Good job Mitch!
I gotta say Mitch you're the best cleaner ever, I wonder one day you would encounter a Mercury vehicle to detail, They're very similar to Ford at the same time, Mercury was served as Ford's medium priced brand that was created in 1938, It was originally created to serve Ford customers a premium vehicle. In 1945, during the world war II, Ford merged its mid range Mercury brand with Lincoln and thus Lincoln-Mercury was born. Sadly after years of declining sales, Ford have decided to discontinue Mercury brand in order for its efforts to focus on Ford and Lincoln lineups. Finally in 2011, Ford completely phased out Mercury brand meeting to its end on the road, However after Mercury's death, I really love your amazing videos, you did an excellent job of cleaning vehicles and I'll be enjoying watching your videos for as long as I can.
This was amazing! The car looks great at the end of the video and I’m impressed on how well you cleaned it up! Great job Mitch and enjoy your weekend everyone!
If you live in the North where snow and salt are on the roads, you better clean it or it will be a rust bucket Winter Beater in a few years. Not a real problem here in the South, unless you live near the ocean and get salt spray. At least the under carriage. I have a 20 year old F150 with only surface rust on the frame. South Carolina near North Myrtle Beach.
When you were pressure washing the green looked very similar to my mother's '00 4 runner, in fact if the handles were chrome I definitely would have had to look a little longer at it (from the side) to realize it was a suburban.
People nag GM in the late 90s/early 2000s for the terrible plastic feel of the interior, but I truly miss their interiors as a whole. The carpet is so much nicer, everything is such a simple/easy design to either remove or operate.
I have this exact car and love it! It was fun to watch. My 2001 ford excursion also has the flaps on the back of the seats to make a flat cargo area. It would be cool if you could detail an excursion! But it would be a monster job, ha!
I don't know what color I was expecting that Suburban to be under all of that mud, but it sure wasn't that pretty green! Excellent job as always, however, I can't help but find myself wondering if we'll ever get another guitar outro. 🤔
Should've really been a wheels off detail. These gmt800 burbans really deserve the full treatment, including a Fluid Film application. I'm a Toyota truck guy, but I wouldn't hesitate living with an old gmt800. Wish i kept my 02
I have a gmc YukonXL with that foot well cover, I think it was great design minus the clips. I use it for camping and having the flaps makes it so I can put blow up mattress down.
Great job, Mitch! I love that green color too. That's the kind of suv you can live in and it looked lived in lol hope the customer loves what you did there. Happy Weekend!
For the tailgate supports that I have come across that are bad I also put a pair of vicegrips on them to to slow the tailgate if the support bar I was using got knocked out
Mitch I bet you had to shovel out all of that mud and dirt from your shop floor! I love that shade of green on the suburban and the awesome job you did getting it all cleaned up. Have a great weekend.
The carpet on the door is meant to be a kick plate so you don't scratch the plastic when you use your foot to push the door open. :) Thank you for the continued videos.
I have those 2nd row flaps in my 18 Toyota Sequoia. When you fold the 2nd and third row complety they bridge the gaps so you can put cargo all the way through. I use them all the time.
As someone that gets their vehicle dirty sometimes, I have to clean my glass. The paint will be ok, but I can't stand glass I can't see through. Even the ranch truck gets a glass cleaning when I go home.
I'm with you about the carpet on the doors. I often put my foot there to stop the door closing (especially in wind) on me as I prepare to get out. It is a nice look, though.
I had a couple of GM cars that had carpeting along the door panels. I think it helped for acoustics for the vehicle between dampening the outside road noise to giving a more solid sound for the music played.
This is me. I live on a dirt road that turns slick and sticky with rain and snow. And I did spend 325 to get it professionally cleaned and two days later I was back to looking the same way before the cleaning. Two large dogs didn't help interior either with their paw prints. I will try for a beater truck to drive on icky road days. Something that's NOT my 3500 high country truck
door carpet has a functional origin; they were supposed to help with sound deadening. they are also noticeably nicer than rubbing against plastic when squeezing into the car.
I had an idea for and interesting shot as you sprayed of the back window. A shot looking out from over the back seat as the window was blasted with the pressure washer.

The foldable piece at the back of the seats is a footrest when you put it down. It's rarely used (in a modified way) in some luxury sedans these days.
