Nick is my all time favorite artist. His body of work is a requiem to the introvert. In his own time his career suffered by his unease with performing. He just couldn’t get a foothold. What he couldn’t do in live performance is unrestricted however for the listener of his recorded tracks.
Thus with the ushering in of technology which led to mass availability of music over the internet Nick has found an ever refreshing base of fans. He didn’t know it then but he was singing to the future.

God wanted his own troubadour. That’s why Nick is no more. Each of his words touch the soul like fingers touch the strings. Resonating in eternity. I love his music. Very few people can reach his highs and depths. He was one of a kind, that’s for sure.

Joe Boyd is some kind of genius running a major production company plus he is a very good writer. I have his book "White Bicycles" It must be hard to be a gatekeeper, like editors, screenplay analysts... I think it's a real genius who can listen to music and know its potential and all the different hats they must wear to make it all happen. It was great Nick had met him as we might not have been able to experience his music today. Thanks smoking5744 for a very nice video!

I grew up in the Philly area in the early 70s. It had at that time a huge influence on Rock music Bowie, Springsteen etc, it also had a vibrant folk scene, but I never heard Nick Drake. It wasn't until the late 80's that I heard this guy's wonderful music. Great songwriter and excellent guitarist. Like Sandy Denny taken too young. Thank you sir for some BEAUTIFUL songs! This music was too good for the likes of Philly.

@@MarioRossi-lh7rr Hi Mario! Me too! I"m 68 and after playing in public first time at coffeehouse open mics when I was 64 people started telling me I sounded like Nick Drake. I had never heard of him. A year passed and suddenly one day while at home his name came to my memory and found him on TH-cam. I then became a fan and discovered Sandy Denny, John Martyn... There's no way I'm as good as Nick was. Maybe it's because of some of the chords I play and lean toward the melancholy sounding songs people have told me that quite a few times. I feel like you though, and wonder how much time had passed and never heard of him. I think a lot of people in the US mainly heard US and Canadian musicians. I never could afford a stereo and albums but listened a lot on radio. When my sister moved home again in '72 she had a very nice album collection and I heard a lot through her, but not Nick or really the European artists.

Nick was the first artist I ever heard express misgivings with our Societal & Economic arrangements which worked against humanity. So the verisimilitude of his words are rather stark & shocking but not immediately until the 3 albums build a much bigger picture of his antipathy for all but Nature, & his ability to see through the superficiality.
The isolation came from not relating to people who would never cease fawning about pointless culture. Sport, Politics, Business, Fashion, etc. would bore him. Yet he could never have a sagacious an objective conversation about profound matters which were beginning to envelope the world. He attributed much of his lack of success to this cultural aberration.
This isolation in turn threatened his stability and lead to destitution. Poverty is structural violence & causes behavioral violence. But in the end, he was only violent to himself.
It's kind of sad that people have merely offered love to a memory instead of heeding his words and changing in the way that would benefit us all.

Art school? I don't even know what that is. Apologies if my persona offends you. It was not my intention. I just have an alternative perspective after attending several lectures of the late Jacque Fresco (1916-2017) - who changed my entire view of reality.

We were so lucky we had Joe Boyd, and Witchseason to recognise the talent. Thinking back, there was just SO much good music back then, but the successful artists were the ones that went out on the road, interviewed etc. So here we are. Just the records and snippets and memories. With nearly 50 years since he died, it all builds a huge rather moody mystique. But a huge talent, nonetheless.
Watching other people playing his music is so odd, as there is so much intensity and po-faced earnestness it makes me cringe. I think the recognition, Nick would've loved, but also, "oh goodness, have a spliff and enjoy it...".
