Absolutely well done, couldn't be more fitting for today. It's especially scary when you remember the Shadow Queen drags the the audience members into the depths of darkness and absorbs their energy while you hear their screams. A lot of people told me that one moment actually horrified them when it first happened; a shame I never played Thousand Year Door for myself.
I'm aware of them eating the audience too, but for some reason, it seemed so typical to expect a dragon to do it, despite it still surprised me when I watched a playthrough of the game. I wasn't expecting the final boss to resort to that, but as you said, it all still amounts to one of Mario's darker titles in the end.
Ah, I need an extended version of this for an upcoming fight in my D&D campaign. It fits so well for something I'm planning to drop on my players with the vibes this song gives

Theroy: Everybody in the Mushroom Kingdom has an evil spirit. This is the evil spirit of the matriarchal crown on peach's head. It'd be neat if this is what happens if a female toad doesn't claim it or something. Oh, and i also have a theroy that Peach is actually a different toad every game and Peach is actually the crown. Which is why bowser kidnapped peach and turned toads into blocks, so the crowns seal would break when it didn't have a new host.

Paper Mario discourse really is a pain. Like, it's not even old fans vs. new ones, i.e. classic Paper Mario vs. post-Sticker Star Paper Mario, there are a tone of people stirring the pot of discourse claiming that the Nintendo 64 Paper Mario is better than The Thousand-Year Door, or at least better designed, and that's not even going into Super Paper Mario. At the very least, I can always come back to the music, and the good times it brings me back to. I do find it interesting that this is just the final battle theme and not, like, a Shadow Queen medley of sorts.

Well, hook/gloom tail actually eats the audience and also this games story is pretty dark so overall a really edgy Mario game
