  • Performed by The Heart of Texas Concert Band at Thomas Jefferson High School.
Conducted by James Benton, Guest Conductor
March 5, 2017, members of the Heart of Texas Concert Band were featured as guest conductors and soloists. Clarinetist Jean Lake will be heard as soloist on Oscar Navarro’s “2nd Concerto for Clarinet” conducted by R. Mark Rogers. A trumpet trio (Jim Manzo, John Morehead & John Waugh ) performed "Anniversary Polka" by Rafael Mendez, directed by Mike Olson.
The guest conductors who appear on this performance always take the programming in new and unexpected directions, making for a wonderful afternoon of music:
James Benton will conduct "Summer Dances" , by Brian Balmages,
Matt Eldred will lead the band in "Folk Song Suite, No. 1 March" by R. Vaughan Williams,
John Goforth will direct "Noisy Wheels of Joy" by Eric Whitacre, and
Rene Guzman will guide the band in "The Mission" by John Williams.

Well executed, dynamics truly done well. Brian Balmages has created a peace that stirs the soul and Heart of Texas Concert Band has captured it with great passion.

What keeps throwing me off is the constant delay of solos and entrances. It’s still very skillfully played
