    -- Compost everything. Always put cardboard down and build sandy loamy soil on top of the cardboard.

    This is what I use and have great results with it. Earth worms love cardboard. Only thing left of my boxes is the plastic tape. I use it in containers planting. Custom fit the card board to container place a little compost on top of it and punch holes through the cardboard to plant. I have a goat farm and endless supply of compost. I compost mountains of goat manure and use it after a couple of years. I have millions of earth worms. After each year nothing is left of the card board (only the tape). I use all my card bord from goods received from online shopping.

    Great video. We’re gonna try the cardboard/weed barrier this week. I finally convinced my Husband this would work. New subscriber because you have some interesting vids & you sound like your a fellow gardener from New England. I’m in Southern Mass zone 6b.

      Ha Ha .. I grew up on the North Shore of Massachusetts.. cardboard is a great weed barrier and it breaks down and feeds your soil! Thanks for watching and commenting!!

    I did that 3 years ago on 4000 sq feet covered with 40 cubic yards of compost and my 3rd season of no fertilizers or pesticides, is producing very well...I now make my own compost to keep it amended naturally...love the video and best of luck from the Ozarks

    May I ask if you have a quick idea to deter Moles & voles naturally ? I can't fix the whole neighborhood . I just want to save my plants and perennial gardens . Thank you . Great video .!

      Only thing I have found is a good outdoor cat.
      When we transitioned our older outdoor door cat to an indoor cat the moles and voles came back.. I do not like to use any chemicals on my soil.. thanks for watching and commenting!!

    How long will the cardboard prevent weeds from growing? It seem like it would be only temporary remedy for weeds.

      Probably a season or two. I would hope by then it would cut back the weed growth. The Bermuda Grass I have next to the garden is very aggressive.. it grows more on top of my wood chips.. frustrating!!

    I can't find the info anywhere but what season are you supposed to start this? It's December here now and I'm wondering if u do this before spring.

    • @thestupidgardener4642
      @thestupidgardener4642  ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely before spring. If you are not covered up with snow go ahead and get it done before planting. Thanks for watching and commenting!!

      Grow a winter garden, find winter plants. Broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussel sprouts, and several others. You get better each year of gardening. Save seeds each year. I do this year round composting gives off heat.

    Does this work for roots in a planter box. I'm disabled and was given a planter box. I pulled out a dead huge bush. And I have all these roots at the bottom I can't pull up. I'm looking to see easier way. Do I do this. Or put plastic down and put my compost over it. Looking for easier solutions. Thanks

      You can definitely use it in a planter box.

    The cardboard alone would have done the job.
