I don't care if people think this video is too long, the beginning is informative and it answers the question of how to change log base on a calculator (at 3:20) So, thank you so much for making this video !
Thank you! I missed out on part of the lecture in which my professor taught how to do this in class. I had no clue how to do it until watching this. Such a lifesaver!
I haven't been able to grasp logarithms, I was actually coming to this video just to try and figure out how to change the base, but your explanation was extremely nice and understandable. Thank you.
This was extremely helpful. I was so confused with the change of base formula, this made it so much easier because I use basically the same calculator as you! :)
I tried the change of base formula a lot on my TI-84 plus and couldn't get it to work right, until I noticed you add the right parenthesis before the division symbol. Thanx!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! Omg every time I would go through the freaking catalog and it never occurred to me to look it up lmaoo at least you're smarter than me!
Install a program from Texas Instruments called "TI Connect". This allows you to install / download data and programs to and from your calculator. You will need a USB cable. TI Connect has a menu option to check and install the latest firmware for your calculator. Good luck.
@@aborne lol yes man preciate the video but most people watching the video already sat through a course lesson on logs and dont know or didn't remember how to use the full calc functions for it... Most would search for an understanding logs video for a refresher on the ideology of logs themselves
Thank you... God! Our goddamn teacher did not tell us this... I thought was Impossible to do Logarithms with a different base than 10 or e in the calculator. Our book ask us to solve some of Logarithmic Equations graphically... and I didn't know how to use the "any base" functionality. Thank you, now I don't need to do everything algebraically :D
+adamu pastor It sounds like you do not have "MathPrint" mode on. Press the MODE key ad change the setting from 'Classic' to 'MathPrint'. Hope that fixes it!
Are you by any chance involved in any government programs with specially trained operatives meant to carry out dangerous and often times high profile missions?
I have the same system version that is displayed in the video, yet when I follow the steps, the only thing that shows up is "logBASE(". Please show me how to fix it.
This is fixed very easily. Your calculator is Classic mode. Press the MODE button, then press the down arrow key until you get to the second page, and at the top you will see the choice of MATHPRINT and CLASSIC. Put it in MATHPRINT. I hope that helps.
jam92es I'm sorry you're having trouble. I'm 99% sure your calculator has an OLDER operating system. You must update for any of this to work. Press 2ND, then the (+), and look at "ABOUT". If it's less than version 2.55MP, you'll need to update. Good luck.
Hi Betty. I'm using Texas Instruments TI-Smartview to show the Calculator on the screen, but there are others. Like Wabbit EMU, I think you can buy it from them, but I got a free copy for attending a conference.
Thank you for your kind words; Remember, it was YOU who demonstrated a sense of agency and found the skills & knowledge you needed. That's the difference between those that simply "do" and those who think for themselves & lead. In this unfair complex world- you will do just fine.
All i want to say is this... A big thank you to your parents! Thank you for giving birth to you, thank you for supporting you through school and further education! Because if that didnt happen, I would probably fail my math test xD
could you show how to graph LogBASE2(X) on the calculator... mine seems not to be able to enter the base. Can it only do LogBASE10 and the natural Log on the graphing portion?
Mark Jensen , While I cannot show it (that would be a new video) I can guide you. In the Y= screen, you may summon the "any" log base with the keys ALPHA, then F2, and choose #5. If that fails, or you do not have OS version 2.54, You can get the results you want using regular base 10 logs, like this: log(X) / log(2). Good luck!
Andrew Borne thank you... it turns out that my calculator wasn't able to enter the Base part of the Log because it was in some weird statistics mode. I did a full reset and now I can enter the base. Thanks again.
I used a software program from TI called "SmartView" typically for teachers, however, you can find a really good free emulator called Wabbit EMU. Just search on Google and you'll find it. Good luck!
you do it exact same way. press the y= button so you can type in the equation then press the alpha key then press window then press 5 to access the logarithm key and there ya go!
+Nikki Aiello I think you mean 4^3x = 64, where ^ means "to the power of". I'll direct you to watch the video I made which describes how to use the algebra solver, here: th-cam.com/video/UZnbiLoQiBQ/w-d-xo.html.
miss mory Good question: it’s short for logarithm. Logarithm is the inverse operation of exponent, the same way division is the inverse of multiplication. In algebra we need a way to perform operations that “undo” stuff, and log is the only way to undo x to the power of a number. Cheers!
Andrew Borne This seems really helpful, however, I'm running on 4.2 and everything seems to work until I enter the function logBASE and there is no option for entering the base, just "logBase(" is there any way to enter the base since it doesn't allow me?
+antonio_Idr yes, your calculator is in CLASSIC mode for displaying stuff. See my response to +Keitha Duhaney. Switch to MATHPRINT mode under the MODE key.
RachelTheBlode, you are not out of luck. You don't need a Silver Edition to use the Any base log. You only need to update your calculator. If it is a TI-84+, it will work. The Calculator has a OS that needs to be version 2.54MP and it's all good.
+Asa Hopkins go to education.ti.com, go to ow.ly/PnS83001k7l and download & install using the TI-Connect software. Write me an email if you need more it more step-by-step.
Thanks! I wish my teacher told me how to do this. But what if it's log base b? Like instead of a number, it's a letter.. Don't know how to plug that in.
To add to what Angel said, if you want to solve for 'b', the TI-84 can solve for that part of the equation but you'll need to use the equation solver, and I did a youtube vid for using the equation solver. th-cam.com/video/UZnbiLoQiBQ/w-d-xo.html. Write if you need a hand. abornemath@gmail.com
+Rogério Nunes I really need to make a video about that, you're not the first to ask. This is the closes thing I have. th-cam.com/video/d1N5mFwk4Qc/w-d-xo.html
You could hit MATH, ALPHA, MATH really quickly in order to get to the log base shortcut.
thank you.
thats so life changing, thank you!!!!!! THANK YOU!!
this was the only information i was trying to get and i could've just scrolled to the comments first. thank you lol
You, my friend, are my savior.
+Magecatz right???!!! Just what I needed!!!!!!
Thanks for this helpful video! Just a tip, a much faster way to imput your own logs would be to press math, alpha, math.
I am immensely thankful for you.

+Gia Mason You're welcome! :)
+Andrew Borne YOU ARE MY HERO FOR THIS NEXT MATH EXAM
+Andrew Borne oh how i thank you, logbase 0.93 doesn't fit in the head!
This helped so much thank the lord you came in clutch
You can also use nSolve right? Or am I tripping on mushrooms again?.. or both?
Yes, you can use the numeric solver. But, in my opinion, that's extra button pushing and solving a problem the longer way.

How do you actually enable logbase though?
It’s required your calculator have the latest operating system version 2.55. If yours has 2.43 or older the any log base won’t be a feature.
Andrew Borne what if you have version 2.55 but it says it’s still disabled
saved me so much trouble thank you
