The Image: One of the sacred sequences from a film (To Kill a Mockingbird) I must have watched over a hundred times (I am a literature teacher!) is suddenly transmogrified and warped into entirely different as Scout's first day at school is reimagined as something sinister and dark - as though this typically American and hearty breakfast scene from Alabama becomes trapped in a terrifying cycle of endless repetition, regurgitation, and trauma.
(Plus, I did always wonder what Miss Maudie - not married to Atticus - was doing there at the breakfast table so early in the morning!)
