  • Welcome to the auction of this numbers matching bare metal restored Porsche 912! It's now available on Bring a Trailer, ending on Wednesday June 26th at 11:11AM. Find the auction here: bringatrailer....
The current owner, its custodian for the past 52 years, treated it to a bare metal restoration and a rebuild of its numbers matching drivetrain. Now wearing a fresh coat in its original Burgundy Red color, the interior has been restored to its original luster, it’s ready to be enjoyed by the next custodian.
The Restoration: It’s a tale almost 30 years long. The owner acquired the car in 1972 in the San Francisco Bay Area and used it in California until, serving our government, he and the car moved to Virginia. Years later, in 1989, the owner disassembled the engine and shipped it to Harry Pelow in California and took the car to Karosserie Porsche Restoration in Alexandria, VA to begin the process of rust removal and preparing the car for paint.
From there the project ground to a halt as their government work, other cars and life, took precedence. Everything was stored and when he moved back to California, the chassis, disassembled engine and interior parts came with him.
After being stored for the better part of 27 years, work began in earnest towards the end of 2018. Alonzo Quintero, well known in Bay Area Porsche circles, took care of the paint and body work. Glasurit 90 paint was made to the original 6808 specifications and three base coats and three clear were applied. At the same time, The Shop worked on restoring the interior. The engine was sent to noted specialist Tom Amon and by early 2019 the car was once again on the road.
The car comes with its original steel wheels and hubcaps, the rare Solex carbs and air filter housings, the original two-piece Blaupunkt radio along with a host of other parts.
With approximately 1000 miles under its belt since the restoration was complete, this is now a fantastic driving car in very nice shape.

Holy crap. I own a 1968 912 but it does NOT sound anything like that

Congrats on owning an iconic car! For the driving portions we place the mic at the exhaust so we can here the note, but not get windnoise.

@@genauautowerksThanks! Clever positioning of the mic :) Maybe I should do the same to see if it sounds equally as good

@@genauautowerksAnother question. Those chrome bars you have installed between the rear bumpers, what are they for? I have them too, for the front also, but have no clue on what they are for, other than some extra protection. Is it a rally thing?

@@NoobOnGuitar Yes, those are for extra protection for the rear end. i believe it was an addition for the American market. Not a rally thing.
