So let's do that: Russia took avdiivka, Ukraine withdrew some miles to the next defendable high ground and Russia got stuck again. Now we have stalemate as we have for 10 years there.

Then the much-hyped offensive by the Ukrainian army, which had no success anywhere and ultimately ended in catastrophe. In eight years, the Ukrainian army has turned the area into a fortress. Avdeevka, along with Bakhmut, was the linchpin of the area's complete defense. If Chasiv Yar also falls, there will be no real defensive lines worth mentioning behind it. Now, two years later, everything is history.

Active fighting for the Avdiivka didn't start until 2022. And storming not until mid 2023, by which it was adequately surrounded. And keep in mind, the Ukrainians built defenses for 8 years here. I hope they have equally robust defenses for 2nd or 3rd layers. But to quote Tatarigami_UA.."when assessing the state of prepared fortifications post-Avdiivka and other key areas that might become front-lines this year, "disappointing is probably the best description".

Now, in 2024 have seized it again. Not Warsaw. Not Prague. Not Belgrade. Not Budapest. A town of 35,000 people with no people. And destroyed. At what cost to Russian Federation in men and equipment?
@@jimjones308 For 10 years there was basically a low-intensity conflict in the Donbass. There were no large pushes from either side, no real fighting. With your logic, why hasn't Ukraine managed to recapture Donetsk (just a few kilometre away from Avdeevka) in 10 years? The battle for that poor town began in the autumn of 2023
Military equipment losses and casualties are unavoidable in war. In the end, whoever controls the area of battle always emerges as victorious.
