    I'm just glad to see that the Simplex was on your final 4 list. I am also happy to note that while it didn't win, it was one-upped by a detector that was $600-650 higher priced! What would you recommend for a beginner?

    • @MentalMetal
      @MentalMetal  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends the type of hunting you want to do. Do you require the machine to be waterproof, are you hunting beaches etc. Minelab has a good beginner machine called the Vanquish. If you get the 540 pack you get wireless headphones. However, now the the new Minelab Equinox 700 and 900s are coming out the 600 will probably get a lot cheaper and beginners can figure out that machine. But to be honest Give my friend John from Fort Bedford Metal Detectors a call and he can help you figure out the best machine for you. 814-215-1732.

      Justin Sorry for the late response, I was on vacation. Here is something I wrote up about kids and metal detectors. mentalmetaldetecting.com/metal-detectors-for-kids/ I would personally look at the section "Metal Detectors for Young Adults 16 years and older" if she is tall I would recommend any one of those listed. They are all good machines for the money. I think the Simplex and/or the Vanquish will come close to the price you want to spend. Just depends on today's prices. The 900 is supposed to be better at finding gold... but I'm just wondering if it really is a better gold detector. Now the Manticore is trying to take the top spot away from both the 8 and 900.
      I did find a person that has all three in Colorado who spoke highly of his 800 verses his 900 and his new Manticore.
      So...

    Not trying to persuade ya. I bought the at Max an I've never found so much new stuff. It's all in what you are looking for. When it comes to civil war relics an silver. I have never found so much since I bought the at Max. An as you know it is water proof an wireless with both the metal detector an the pin pointer. An they work awesome. An I dig alot of good targets from 12-24 inches it definitely goes deep. At first I thought I was just getting mixed signals. So I told myself that I was going to dig the signal until I found something. Low an behold two silver mercs 1941&1944. About 16 inches down. An I thought that it was just going to be some iron or a can /junk. Now I dig everything. It's all in what you like. The main thing is learning the signal/sound. I myself can honestly say I have learned about everything I know about the at Max on how to set it up, an use it. An what to listen for as far as good targets sounds. Such as brass, gold, silver, iron, etc. From the one an only aquachigger. Good luck with your new detector. As always safe an happy hunting.😁👍👍

      Hey Sean sorry the late response, I'm done in VA digging for American Civil War relics. I have done several videos on the Equinox now but I like the simplicity and the multi-frequency. After I took it over to a permission that I've hunted for years with my XP Deus and I found something 4 or 6 silvers coins that were banging. There is something to be said about Minelab's multi frequency. They are good at what they do and they've been ahead of the game in that area. I will say that I still prefer my XP Deus as a relic machine especially in iron invested areas. The Deus is hard to beat in that area. Hope that helps.

    I have a CTX, AT Pro, Excalibur 800, an Etrac, and an Equinox 800, and over the last 35 years I have had Whites and a Bounty hunters as well. I also has issues with the AT Pro with the factory coil, but the issue was resolved with Garrett with only a few head aches. Each detector has its own unique set of parameters which I exploit in various conditions. The AT Pro goes with me on overseas hunts. It just murders the relics in German forests and parks. Etrac is a proven winner on dry unplowed soft loam and sandy fields. The CTX is a killer on open salt water beaches and the well rotted buffalo crap, black soil of the Midwest like Iowa, Nebraska and Indiana. The Excalibur is good in the deeper water in the Caribbean islands. But for mudlarking around drained lakes, small beaches with tons of trash, or shallow river detecting, nothing compares to the Equinox with the six inch coil. You will need to tinker with the internal programs to get the max performance out of it. It doesn't like power lines real well and has a bunch of other quirks as most detectors do, but the light weight, depth, and maneuverability around objects will win you over. My next detector is the XP. Good hunting and happy hunting from Ohio.

    • @MentalMetal

      thanks for the info and good luck with the XP. I've done really well with the Deus but it has it quirks as well but its a fine relic and coin machine. The Simplex is good for the price point for what you get. Not sure I would pair the 2 together. The Equinox has a lot more going on under the hood and its just a more advanced machine. Thanks Marilyn for the question. I just happened to finally get the Deus II delivered today. Out of the box it looks really good. I have high hopes for it but I've also really enjoyed my Equinox 800. Will Minelab learn from XP? Minelab usually sets the bar IMO. So I wouldn't expect an update for the Nox. There isn't much more you can do with that machine so I would expect them to come out with something really different but I wouldn't expect to see anything any time soon. For the record, this is just me speculating and I have no inside knowledge about Minelab. Keep in mind too that the Deus was not an easy machine to learn whereas the NOx was breeze. So Minelab may ride out the Deus crazies and see where it ends up.

The tones I heard sound like he was just using one of the stock programs but its hard to say. Too each his own. The multi-IQ that the Vanquish has (same as the Nox) has it benefits for sure. You have a bunch of extra features that you don't have on the Simplex. I like the Simplex as a replacement for my AT Pro but both machines are still single frequency VLF detectors. The multi-IQ is where the Nox shines. The 600 has 3 freqs where as the 800 you get 4 freqs running at the same time. Its def an advantage that Minelab has been perfecting for years. The 800 comes with a few extra bells and whistles that are nice if you like to play around with different tones, freqs etc. I do, which is a big reason (besides it kills on the beach) i decided to go with it.

    • @MentalMetal
      @MentalMetal  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Paul for your comment. I think you are putting words in my mouth because if you look back at the video where I compared the Deus and the Anfibio 12 weeks ago, I clearly said that if I was looking for a new machine today and if I didn't own a Deus then I would probably have picked the Anfibio but the Anfibio Multi wasn't around when I purchased the Deus. However, I did say that if I someone who was looking to upgrade from something like an AT Pro then the Anfibio would be a good option for those who have a smaller budget. I never once said that the Anfibio was my favorite waterproof machine. Now as far as this video goes, I clearly stated in the video that I wanted something that was waterproof and worked well at the beach. The reason the Anfibio didn't make the cut is because it doesn't do well on the beach the vendor(s) I talked to talked me out of the Anfibio because at the time there was an issue with the Anfibio overloading on certain signals when it comes to civil war relic hunting (one of my favorite types of hunting). So not working well on the beach and having an overload issue (I hope has been fixed with a firmware upgrade) 12 weeks ago like you pointed out were the 2 biggest reasons I opted to not get that machine. Plus it was NOT a "true" multi-frequency" machine as I pointed out in the video and the article. The Anfibio didn't make the cut and I really wanted something that worked well on the beach that was 100Z% waterproof. For anyone else reading this who thinks I mislead the topic here is a link to my article: mentalmetaldetecting.com/xp-deus-and-the-anfibio-multi-compared/ and here is the link to the video that Paul is referring too th-cam.com/video/0JPjAJsi3fY/w-d-xo.html I hope that clears up any confusion. I have seen to much drowned Equinoxes to buy one. Its a good performing machine, but made out of crappy low budget material. Hint: Searching on the wet beach goes very well with the X35 coil

    • @MentalMetal
      @MentalMetal  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the X35 tip but they (XP) need to do something more than the X35 for the beach. Thats what they said about the HF and it didn't do well either unless you were in Gold Field and digging everything anyway. The X35 may work a little better but it won't come close to the Nox on the beach. Trust me, I've tried everything I could to make the Deus work but I finally threw in the towel. Never wanted the Nox either but gave it a try and couldn't believe what it is find at my Deus permissions... I appreciate the comment my friend. I'll keep the Deus for now but I'm using the Nox more and more everyday.

      @@wangchung_8541 better build quality ? 🤣. Its heavy, its weak, less balanced, but also deeper in beach to land setting. Thats why i have both now. But I am considering the deus II because it goes just as deep.

      @MentalMetal  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Whoa that's a pretty strong opinion and I respect that. I'm not sure I would agree w/you. I too was in Garretts camp many years ago but if all you care about is how strong the plastic is then sure I would agree w/you. Garretts AT machines are built pretty well. I've owned my AT Pro for 6 years before she had to be rebuilt. But like you said is your choice. Thanks for your thoughts.

    New sub so don’t know how much razzing you’re going to take for this decision. I started out with Garrett and love it for dry sand but I moved up to a Nox 600 after watching TH-cam videos and hearing everyone read out the numbers every time they found a target. Love the Nox for the beach and underwater. I just got the Detect-Ed carbon fiber shaft and the Detect-Ed cuff system and love them both. HH. I’ll be following you now.

    You made the right choice, as i own both...and for the record the Deus is the better machine for relics by far....take the NOX to your old pool spot, run park 2 and get the silver you missed with the Deus....NOX gets the nod over the Deus for coin shooting
