    I now own both a "Newmad" and a "Machno." You helped me settle on these selections, and I love them both, but, thus far, especially the Newmad.

    I'd love to see someone put a sub intermediate paddler in a scorch and do a back to back with them in their regular boat, and one in the scorch.

    • @AlexBarham

      Hmm. I might be able to arrange that, but that isn't a group that usually wants to try new boats on whitewater you're going to actually want to see footage of. Also puts my demos at risk of getting beat up

    Hey Alex, bit late to this video so I'll comment on your new video incase you don't see this. I have a question, I'm looking to upgrade from an old Pyranha Everest. I'm a comfortable class 3 paddler, starting to venture in to class 4. At 265lbs, would a large Scorch be an appropriate boat for me do you think? I've paddled a Machno on class 2 water before and felt it was too similar to the Everest to justify an upgrade to be honest. Or else would you recommend I keep the Everest and go for a Ripper / Firecracker instead. Thanks!

    • @AlexBarham
      @AlexBarham  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Personally I would tell you to go back to the Large Machno. If you aren't seeing a difference I don't think you're giving it an honest shot. From there I would sell the Everest to a beginner and use the money on something that will be more challenging when you paddle that Class 3 like that Ripper. That way you'll be pushing yourself on the easy stuff, and have something confidence inspiring on the Class 4+

      Interesting post. I have paddled a ripper 2 M last year and on class 3. Great fun, but was looking for something beyond. I really like the ripper2 for it's directness and edges, but sometimes the half slice aft is just too much for to handle on the higher grades and technical stuff (Verdon canyon).
      Doubt if I should go for a Machno or a scorch M

    Can you explain exactly what the “stern tap” means for the 9rII.

    • @AlexBarham
      @AlexBarham  ปีที่แล้ว

      Stern tapping means that when you go over a rock or drop the back of the boat either hits the object you're booking over, or actually hangs up. Either way the effect is you don't get a clean release

    Nice review. I'm looking for a scorch 5''7'' 145lbs + gear might hit the 155lbs. should i get the small scorch even if i'll be at the higher range ? ( 88-165) or should i just get another boat like the 9r? thanks!

    • @AlexBarham
      @AlexBarham  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would put you in the small scorch. The 9r2 at 145 is not a great fit unless you slam the seat forward

      @@AlexBarham i tested the small scorch today : amazing but... you we're right you need to master some tricks before. I feel like it's as narrow as the jed but whit volume in the front and theback haha. But I realise i'm not 145 anymore... but 150/155. Do you still think it's a bit better to be 15X/(88-165) small or 15X /(145-200) med scorch?

    Down to help out via amazon, but would you offer individualized boat advice for a fee? Like getting paid $30 for the 15min conversations you probably have with people all time about boats. I'm deciding between hull designs and boat sizes based on a specific area of the country, which is too nuanced a discussion to expect you to answer for free in the comment section. Thoughts?
