Fun story, Years ago I lived in the Medford, Oregon area a bit in the mostly Arab horse world. There was a famous Thoroughbred stallion, who's name you would all recognize, who was quietly available for test breeding certain quality mares. One of the mares selected was an Appaloosa and the foal she dropped was a beautiful blanket appy who grew into a tall straight magnificent stud. I only saw him as an adult one time and he was beautiful. The owners were interested in Appaloosa racing and worked very hard trying to get him recognized by the owners of the Thoroughbred but they were consistently turned away. This was an unrecognized test breeding and that was that, To my knowledge they never recognized him but we all knew the story for what that was worth. Unfortunately I don't remember what he was named =(( I'm pretty sure this wasn't First Secretary as this happened in the Oregon area as a test breeding.. to my knowledge.=))
No horses in America until the Spanish an Europeans arrived ,spotted horse did come from the steppes of Mongolia an Azerbaijan an the reason they were used in America is that there tough an can survive in real cold temperatures _ an heat ancient bloodlines that rightfully are precious a real good working horse that's real good on the eye ,u can keep ur ferrari,s il have an appaloosa I can dream huh
I’m sorry your comments are incorrect about horses in the Americas. Specifically the north. It has been proven that the Appaloosa breed originated in the Steppes of Central/Eastern Kazacstan/Azerbyzhan/ Mongolia. There is currently a Discovery documentary regarding a New Zealand lady who went there and proved it. Please watch it. The Nez Perce only learned to ride them after the horses crossed the Alaskan land bridge thousands of years before.
All I see are colored quarter horses . No in-depth information on bloodlines . I’ve never heard of any of these stallions. There are plenty of old style appaloosas today that are well worth looking into. They are truly athletic as well as pretty. True there were spotted horses . But it is known the Appaloosa developed in Idaho .

A lot of these color breeds are displaying poor action since the coat is being selected over proper movement. Stifle problems especially.

Has any DNA work been done on the Appaloosa and the Knabstrupper horse in Europe?
The knapstup is its own breed
