    This is why every single dog I have ever owned has been groomed 3 times a week (brushing), baths every 4-6 weeks, and teeth brushing daily from the time they are 4-6 weeks old. Not because I love grooming, but because I have seen too many dogs that have to be sedated to be handled. I feel so very bad for this little old lady. This is so stressful for the dog AND the groomer. I love your patience and caring.

    One day at work, my supervisor told about a dog dumped from a car in front of her house. He was a spaniel mix and we named him Cameron, he was just the sweetest fellow. Any time Cam had to get in the car he would become so anxious, the last couple of years we used the mobile vet, made getting check ups, etc much easier for him.

    We had a rescue dog who was extremely defensive when we tried to even brush her or do anything. According to the shelter, she was an Alaskan Malamute and Schnauzer mix, so she had quite a bit of longer fur and thick undercoat. We always had to take her to the vet to get a fully sedated shave down. We did try to take her to a groomer once, and fully disclosed to them that she would be very difficult and bite. The groomer understandably was unable to work on her, therefore had the vet grooms. We had no info on what our dog's life was like prior to adopting her, but we did our best for her also. I feel for the owner and poor doggo.

    I worked as a groomer prior to becoming a veterinary assistant so we had a few dogs that were like this one that had to be completely under to be groomed. I mean like surgery sedated. I did the best I could in an hours time on a dog regardless of size so sometimes the feet were the last thing to get done but the best you can do is the best you can do. I think you did great. Mostly it’s the dogs comfort that matters.

    I watch a lot of your vids mostly because we can’t afford a groomer for my Maltese Chihuahua mix so I’m the one who cuts her hair! As well as the one who bathes her! I did go to a job interview some months ago and did a trial for dog bather (if it went well and after some time the company would even give me fully free lessons for grooming) and I bathed one dog and was told I did well, but they never called me back 🥲 back at that time I was basically applying to any job I could get my hands on, and that was one of many, I ended the month (or season, whatever) still unemployed. But hopefully I can get some more clients through my art business.

      There’s so many dogs like this in the world. People who tell you all or even “most” dogs can be trained is a liar. A lot of shelters are packed with dogs like this. Yet rescues still try to get them out so they lie and then the family has to go through so much shit and it isn’t worth it. People need to stop with the BS and get some emotional boundaries

    • @TheBaumcm
      @TheBaumcm ปีที่แล้ว +57

      @@xobelladonna2443this isn’t true at all as most dogs will behave like this when stressed or anxious. In a shelter, they have no reason to be trustful of humans on top of the stress and anxiety of close proximity. Humans really suck at reading a dog’s body language, which tells you the difference between fearful/anxious reactive and aggressive, as well as when they are close to their limit. Also, you’d have to be aware that a shelter dog probably hasn’t been socialized or worked with because of the volume, unless a rescue.

I also love how you let them sniff your tools before you use them, so they maybe know what's happening a little better. I wish some human professionals were that kind!

      As a nurse, my wife calls this "performance punishment" ---- because of her excellent medical skills, and her diplomacy and empathy, she would often be assigned to the most difficult patients (both medically and psychologically), and/or those with the most difficult families, those who gave other nurses a particularly hard time. Even more so nowadays, ever since she switched from critical care to hospice nursing. If a patient and their family is coping poorly with impending death, the administrators will give the case to my wife.
      As a retired electronics-repair technician, I've experienced similar ---- the tech, and the shop, who gains a reputation for being able to resurrect 40 to 60 year old equipment with multiple faults, or a history of botched repairs by others, gets all the most difficult repairs, and the most difficult, miracle-demanding clients (who are often cheapskates as well, expecting miracles *for free* 😖).

    I really wish i could get through to them that I'm doing it for their own sake, and if they just work with me for a little bit they would feel so much better. And the reason their leg is sore is that they're the ones flinging themselves around so i can't get their tree sloth nails 😅

He bit me today when gave him a fast pet on his back. The bite hurt too and drew blood. I am at a loss about what to do to keep him clean.
