    Now I want the prequels in the Bohr cinematic universe where he steals Plank's power and battles Heisenberg.

      Nope, let's have a medieval fantasy horror with Galileo battling zombies in Rome's catacombs, lol.

    The black and white scenes are from the point of view of Strauss (Downey Jr). The color scenes are from Oppie's pov.

    I have not seen this movie yet. Thank you for this review. I had planned to see this with my 12 year old son because I trust Nolan to tell a good story about a world changing event where humans unlocked the power of the atom and its ability to create such devastating destruction. That went out the window when I learned that for the first time....Nolan had both nudity and sex in his film.
    I will see it eventually....I always see his movies.
    BTW....it's a nit but the first bombs were not nuclear but rather Atomic which uses a different method for starting the chain reaction that is the explosion. Edward Teller has a line in the movie trailer where he says "Until someone builds a bigger bomb." which was prophetic since he is the father of the H bomb which became known as a Nuke. H bombs use a modified process for setting off the chain reaction and provides the ability to increase the destructive power by hundreds of times. The A bomb was measured in kilotons and the H bomb (thermonuclear) is measured in kilotons and megatons. More bang with the same small form factor.
    Again thanks for your review. I enjoyed it.

    Seems Nolan has found his form again with this movie. Besides the sex scene at the beginning most of this movie was fantastic. The acting from Murphy should get him a best actor nomination. It's amazing how this movie flew by it didn't feel like it was 3 hours and that's a credit to Nolans editing. The soundtrack was fantastic. The build up to the trinity test to me was the best part of the movie. A little more exploration into Emily blunts character would have been nice as well. Overall fantastic movie

    I just watched the movie a few hours ago. I thought it was pretty good. It's not perfect. It has its flaws. But it definitely kept me engaged while I was watching it. The good: The actors. Amazing cast. The way Christoper Nolan explored the consequences of creating an atomic bomb. I like that they didn't glorify war or make it seem like it was "happily ever after". The not so good: Lately, Nolan has been making his movies somewhat painful to watch because the soundtrack is blaring throughout the whole movie. I don't think there was a single scene in the movie that didn't have the music playing in the background. After a while it was irritating. I don't mind a little bombastic soundtrack, but not when it's a 3 hour movie filled with it. The movie Dunkirk had the same issue. I probably won't watch the movie again. I don't think I could put myself through that again. My ears were starting to hurt. I also don't think it was necessary to show so much of Florence Pugh's naked body. Sometimes less is more. Since I was watching the movie with my parents, it was a little awkward during those scenes.

      Ooof I'm sorry to hear that dude.
      I actually didn't mind the sound editing here. Oddly it kinda enhanced the whole experience for me, but I hear what you're saying from many others. I appreciated the step away from Zimmer scores as well.
      That being said, yeah I missed some dialogue it feels cause of that soundtrack LOL
      Thank you for coming by dude!

    When a actor/actress does a "gratuities sex scene" it lowers my already low opinion of actors/actresses. Great review! Vex

    When people call an intelligent film like Oppenheimer 'pretentious' *cough Gary cough. We realize why we don't have many filmmakers like Nolan in the film industry. This film expects it's audience to be intelligent and attentive and that's too much of an ask in 2023. Thank God for Barbie.

    • @VexElectronica
      @VexElectronica  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm genuinely surprised this was called pretentious. Like in no way is it filmed in such a way to overly artistic or nuanced. It's just a visually appealing biography with less of a straight arrow plot. Dunno about you, but when I think pretentious, I think Lars Von Trier or Terrance Malick.

    I've seen it twice now, once in a standard theater and once in IMAX. IMAX definitely makes it better. I loved the fact that it stuck with me, I loved that I got something new with each watch. I loved the surrealism in some of the scenes. I love how well we were shown that people of genius simply don't think like most of us without making them unrelatable. I keep hearing that people think there is no emotion in this movie. There is SO much emotion - just not the over-the-top emotion we see today. My grandparents all lived through this era and these subtle expressions, slight changes in tone are EXACTLY how they expressed emotions. They were pretty repressed people and Nolan captures that. I think I could write an essay on everything this movie does beautifully that would rival The Little Platoon. I'll be making the journey to see it again.

    • @VexElectronica
      @VexElectronica  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dude, I totally agree with everything you've said here.
      The "lack of emotion" is 1000% a fault of the way it's edited IMO. People are used to more drawn out scenes to portray deeper emotion and the quick editing can easily lose an audience here and make it seem like they are emotionless.
      I really didn't realize 3 hours flew by. This movie was an intense cinema experience.
      Did you see it in standard IMAX or the 70mm?

    • @TheEclecticGoat
      @TheEclecticGoat ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VexElectronica That may be what people are used to but I think breaking those expectations - especially when seeking to be as realistic as possible - isn't a bad thing. And alas it was standard. I live in hick-country. I had to drive two hours just to get to ANY IMAX. The closest 70mm is about ten hours away 😀

    SPOILERS: Ah darn. Love your channel, but I guess this is where we part ways. I'm one of the biggest Nolan fans. I'm also a fan of physics (yeah, I'm that much of a nerd). But I found the movie boring. All the acting was great, except for Matt Damon, who I thought was miscast. I wasn't that impressed with the camera work and didn't care that it was shot on film or available in IMAX. It was almost entirely just people talking in a room! I wanted to know much more about the development of the bomb and the challenges Oppy and the team faced. But Nolan realized how boring this would be to general moviegoers, so, following the book, he turned it into a courtroom drama and character study focused on Oppy's weaknesses and infidelity. Even Oppenheimer's grandson agreed with me in a conversation I had with him on Twitter that the sex scenes were gratuitous. He says Nolan took liberties in that there is actually no direct evidence that Oppy had an affair while married to Kitty. let alone the really strange circumstances in the sex scenes -- like the reading from the Hindu holy book (which Hindus are really upset by) and the crazy interrogation room scene -- both of which were obviously fabricated by Nolan. But back to my earlier comment, he had to find some way to spice up a movie about physics. Also, the whole thing about Einstein and the concern about the atomic bomb having a greater than zero chance of incinerating the Earth (which seemed to be the plot thread that was the payoff at the end), was also completely exaggerated for the movie. They were not at all concerned about that. It's nowhere near as bad as Indy 5, but def. not as good as Sound of Freedom, and you couldn't pay me to see Barbie. LOL. It's near the bottom of my Nolan movie list, just doesn't compare to Interstellar, Inception, or even Memento. Even though we don't agree on this one, keep up the good work!
