Maybe you need to love Christmas to receive this music? I see so few “Likes” and wonder if hearts are so calloused to not hear the light-filled joy, like angel songs.
I've sung this quite a few times and never get tired of it, no matter how long we low basses have to hold that D. :-) The first time (first several times, in fact), a friend was singing the Angel, and hearing her soar effortlessly up to the high C near the end was one of the most uplifting moments I've ever had the privilege of being on stage to hear. This is a fine recording of a memorable piece.
...had a friend who visited St.Peters on Christmas Eve...he said he and his partner were approached by a French woman in yellow who said she would show them around the Basilica...he said tha they were “elevated” through the Church...and saw it all without “any encumbrance”...he is a nonbeliever but “wonders”. Merry Christmas to ALL.
This year our choir is going to sing this fabulous piece of music. I must admit that it took some time for me to get used to and appreciate it. When I first heard it I found it quite overwhelming, as if I were one of the shepherds totally flabbergasted by the huge angel choir.

definitely one of the most beautiful choral pieces in the repertoire. I played it in college, and wish more groups would perform it, but I also know how very difficult it is. Wonderful piece.
I sang this with my college choir on Dec. 9. The a cappella part from 17:30 to 18:02 literally gave me chills. We sang that part at a slower tempo and it sounded a lot like Lord of the Rings. We all got the chills from that part that unfortunately, only one person came in at the next entrance at 18:10. Regardless of that, the audience was blown away by our performance of it.
Stunningly beautiful and humble, and visuals are great. I feel the same awe when listening to the amazing ANDREY NEMZER singing SAINT FRANCIS PRAYER. Such humility and inspiration!.
This is gorgeous piece, not well-known enough. Our church choir sang it at Christmas many years ago. We actually had the voices to pull it off. My initial thought upon hearing the woodwinds was that Menotti had ripped Respighi off with Amahl and the Night Visitors. Our organist lightly supported some of the a capella sections. At the appropriate time, he and I quickly made our way to the Steinway to play the piano 4 hands part toward the end. It was a lot of fun.
What a challenging piece. The Hobart and William Smith Community Chorus will be performing it this Nov. 20, 2013 in English in Geneva, NY. The climax of the piece never fails to amaze me how powerful and cascading it is and then how gently the song transitions and ends, like a gentle sigh.
The winds did such a good job!
well. a sublime rendering of this gorgeous composition. kudos to all. THANK YOU FOR THIS LOVELY GIFT.
Glory to God and peace and blessings on the spirit of God the Messenger Jesus, and blessings on the nation of Jesus during this festive period.
So beautiful and so nice to hear this on Christmas Day. My choir sang this and it was such a privilege to sing it.

impossibile essere sordi per una musica così dolce ed evocativa, con i giusti e lontani echi di una trascendentale composizione...

Beautiful piece; I was privileged to sing Mary in a performance.

That C and the modulation it brings is truly a transformative moment. It comes out of nowhere, so cool.

Beautiful music! Thank you!
thanks!
¡Bellísimo!
Divino!
The opening phrases remind me of Canteloubes Chantes D'Auverne, another favourite peice.

Nice performance, but the recording is heavily compressed.

Fantastic, mesmerizing music... From which cd is it? I can't find it; at least not this version. What label produced it?
Ah, that's nice ! Such a shame he's really only known for 'Pines'. Thank you !

Where can I find the lyrics, please? Dove posso trovarne le parole scritte?
