    I added this video to my watch later playlist a few weeks ago. I love the fact that you went over your pro node tree, but still gave the tools of your beginner and advanced versions as well. At the moment, I am copying your trees, but do plan on purchasing your templates as well to support you once I'm paid for the job I'm using this for. Thank you Danny.

    Thank you Danny! Followed along and built out your node tree, and found the thought process and technique so effective, I went in and purchased the template, as well as your LUT's, subscribed to your channel, and have been binging and recommending your channel since.. What a difference this grading process makes on Sony log footage. I'm almost embarrassed by my past deliverables after seeing the dramatic difference. I just wanted to thank you for your hard work on this and other videos, and for so willingly sharing with the rest of us who are trying to improve. As an ex-premiere editor, your node tree, the process behind it, and your clear non-hype explanations as to "how and why" make so much sense. Thank you Danny.

    This is definitely the best node tree video I’ve seen. I always wondered why others separate their primaries💀

    • @DannyGan
      @DannyGan  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      But if you’re gonna separate them, do it in parallel nodes, so they don’t destruct each other 😉

    Danny I have been watching for some time. I have created my own node tree. Problem is, If I dont know what each node is specifically changing I would be at a loss as to how to use. Will watch more to try and learn. Absolute beginner here. Just got an FX3 for our family channel.

    Just subbed and deep diving much of your content as I aim to increase my own color grading skills. My head is kind of going in a loop trying to understand how to best manage my color workflow, and so can I ask, what color management settings would you recommend if shooting on Clog 2/3 and editing on a mac display (M1 Macbook air)?
    If I follow correctly as per this video, in Davinci settings, would you opt for Davinci YRGB, Davinci WG/Intermediate & Rec 709-A,
    and then on a per clip you would have a CST In node with Canon Cinema Gamut / Clog - > Davinci WG/Davinci Intermediate, and then a final CST node at the end of your tree, with Davinci WG/Davinci Intermediate -> Rec. 709/Gamma 2.4.
    Or is there a simpler way to manage this workflow? Thanks for any help! 🙏

    Hello, Danny. This is an awesome video. I have learned some powerful techniques. In this video you mention that for Sony SLOG3 footage, you prefer not to use DWG on your input node, but aren't you still working within the DWG color space at the project level?

  • @yuriorgunov
    @yuriorgunov ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hey Danny! Great video as always. I was wondering why you selected Gamma 2.4 for your output gamma in CST OUT? I know you mentioned you were on a Mac. Shouldn't it be set to rec709-a? Thanks!

    • @DannyGan
      @DannyGan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I guess its more of a "if it works don't fix it" kinda setting for me. I can't really explain why/why not. But for one, I'm going into Rec.709 Gamma 2.4 because of the LUTs I use which are made for this color space. And the fix for Rec.709-A is handled on a project level so I don't need to worry about it when delivering, and easily changable to any other output color space if I need to.

    Some grading artists put the Noise reduction node in the beginning but you did the opposite. Just curious to know more about that.

    • @DannyGan

      because it's not utilising DaVinci Wide Gamut

    • @hellionfilms2349

      @@DannyGan Why exactly? Would you not be wanting to make those adjustments in DWG/DWI? Is it an SLOG thing? Sorry if I'm misunderstanding, I don't shoot Sony if it's an SLog thing? If I'm shooting BRAW would I not first CST into DWG then do those adjustments?

    Quick Question--if the CST in takes you from Sony SGamut3 to DaVinci Wide Gamut, why does the CST Out also have Sony SGamut3 as the input color space? I was under the impression that the CST out would have DaVinci Wide Gamut as the input color space, since that is the color space in which we were working.

    • @DannyGan
      @DannyGan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are free to change the input/output to whatever you're working with.
      As for this example, I'm not working in DWG, so I've only set my CST OUT from S-Log3 to Rec709

    • @NPC_averagemale003

    First time I hear that about Sony and Wide Gamut - If I don't use WG, doesn't it limit what I can get out of the footage?

    • @DannyGan
      @DannyGan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really, DWG is a big color space, but you're still "limited" to the color space of your camera. The only advantage of DWG is a common medium to work in, no matter what footage you're grading. Hope this helps!

    A question: why NR ad Halation at the end?

    • @DannyGan
      @DannyGan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can check out my video on NR for a more detailed explanation. But I like to just soften things out right at the end instead of smearing things at the start.
      As for halation, I like to have full control of how much halation appears in the final grade, instead of putting it in front, which will mess with my workflow down the line.

    I've been trying your node tree. I especially like the HSV Sat technique. I'm having a problem with the HUE node in parallel with SKIN node. The hue node affects the whole frame rather than just the skin tones. Am I doing something wrong?

This is no reflection on your site and business but much more of the world we are now forced to live with.
