I am 70 yrs old and we had one of these when I was a kid. We had this one, we bought it from Newberry's, probably for 29ć, these had more brilliant colors, these were the repos of the all orange ones. The all orange ones had a little color, very faint, some green, some black, and the tissue insert had the eyes and mouth painted on it. I would say the old orange ones were pre- 1950. These never had batteries and no body put candles in these, they would have caught on fire. You put candles only in fresh carved real pumpkins. I wish there was documentaries on these and there production.
This Jack-o-lantern is referred to as "The Choir Boy." This face is pretty ubiquitous and was popular so it was probably made for a longer period of time than other styles. The inner lip on the top of this example looks like it had an insert in the top that had a tiny lightbulb and took a D-size battery.
