    What's Your Favorite Bleach Moment?

    • @KON853
      @KON853 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One of my absolute favorite moments in bleach was the battle between Rukia and Arroniero. I think that fight represents bleach at its best when it comes to the style of character development Kubo makes. Most Shonen mangaka will only develope their characters physically, having them overpower their enemy through physical strength as they already acquired strong willpower. Bleach on the other hand is a story that builds it's characters mentally. When they go through a hard fought battle they have to overcome something that is mentally conflicting them. When it came to Ichigo and his hollow, Byakuya and his promise to his Family but also to his wife, and of course Rukia and her past with Kaien Shiba. She had to overcome the pain she felt when she killed him and her resolve was put to the test in her fight against the 9th Espada. The way that fight was written was absolutely amazing. It solidified the arrancar arc as my favourite arc in bleach prior to me reading the TYBW arc. I don't care what anyone says, that fight will remain in my top 5 favourite fights in the series hands down.

      My favorite moment in Bleach is an extremely subtle, overlooked one from the much-maligned Fullbringer Arc. After Ichigo gains and then immediately loses new powers that would help him protect his friends, seeing everything crumble around him, the Gotei 13 appeared to restore his powers.
      The leaders of the Seireitei, who had lived for thousands of years clinging to their traditions and operating under a Lawful Stupid order that left Soul Society as a minimally-organized caricature of an afterlife, had not had a great track record in the series. Powerful organizations like this throughout fiction have often been portrayed as suspicious, haughty, staid, and unyielding, particularly when young and dynamic hero characters are introduced to them--they fear and despise this protagonist and, while not the true villains or truly evil, are often antagonistic towards our poor protagonist. For a few moments in the canon story and several times in filler arcs or movies this view of Soul Society was maintained--its leadership, either though Captain-General Yamamoto or the Council of 46, this view was reinforced--for one example, when Orihime was kidnapped, she was immediately declared a traitor based on the available evidence and Ichigo was *forbidden* to try and go after her.
      But then, finally, in Ichigo's darkest hour, this interfering, overbearing, self-righteous Soul Society came to Ichigo's aid. Not just the friends he had made among them, but the Captain-General himself ORDERED his Soul Reapers to follow Urahara's plan to restore Ichigo's power to him. Then we had a small reveal that this plan was something we might have expected: originally, Ichigo was planned to be used merely as a pawn to draw out the original Deputy Soul Reaper who had betrayed them, and then, because of the danger they posed, both would be eliminated. However, by this time, because of all that Ichigo had done for them and because of how he had proven himself, they changed the plan to simply helping Ichigo, trusting that he would not betray them as Ginjo Kugo had. To underline this trust, the Soul Reapers sent to the World of the Living to grant him his powers and watch over him, and, perhaps, kill him and Ginjo if he did choose to turn against them, were his friends and closest allies amongst the Gotei 13--Rukia, Renji, Byakuya, Ikkaku, Kenpachi, Toshiro, not people who would be willing to go through with it (well, okay, maybe Kenpachi would have loved to have an excuse to fight him again, but he still wouldn't have WANTED to kill him, especially under 'orders').
      The captains discussing the issue later remark that even after all Ichigo had done, the Soul Society of old still would have used and thrown him away after it was done. The one who changed their hearts was Ichigo. Just as he had specifically with Byakuya a few hundred chapters earlier, Ichigo had changed the vary viewpoint and mindset of the millions of years of traditions of the Soul Society. 'It was his steadfastness...that caused the millions of years of immutability of the Soul Society to be toppled.'
      Perhaps its silly. But after watching thousands of hours and reading thousands of hours of sci-fi and fantasy stories and being frustrated by Omniscient Councils of Interference who were always a hair's breadth away from condemning the hero for being too different or too human or too rebellious or too popular or too RIGHT, seeing a hero show up who could break that cycle, and seeing one of these 'Councils' that could be swayed to be changed and accept the hero harmoniously, is too awesome for words, though I've spent many trying to explain it. This underrated, triumphant finish of the Fullbringer arc was, for me, the greatest moment of Bleach.

    The imagery to the dialogue... Kubo really pulled out all the stops for this moment. The culmination of Ichigo's journey. And it's beautiful.
    From the way the buildings in Ichigo's inner world reconstruct themselves as Ichigo finally understands who his spirits are and what they want. And the way he says that even though he might be technically wrong, to him they're both still Zangetsu no matter who they once were. To the way their visages appear behind him, proudly looking upon him the way a parent would a child. And finally, the way Ichigo acknowledges how he handled them wrong in the past by treating them as distant from himself, and the way he will now fight for himself because they are him... It's all so perfect and I love it so so much.
    I could go on about this scene for pages, especially the long-term buildup, but I think I'll save that for your next video.

    One from CFYOW: Tokinada reveling in his awfulness to Shunsui and his alliance, urging the nobles among them to be as bad as he is and gleefully recounting his plan to unleash war upon humanity as a conqueror. Many present from Kenpachi, Giselle, Grimmjow and the like are horrified, really drives home what a nightmare of a psychopath he is. A truly sinister representative of the nobility.

      My favorite CFYOW moment is the backstop reveal of Tokinada

    • @kurozumi9834

      Which does make zero sense. Kenpachi has barely any morals and everything is a game to him. He would never be terrified by a lack of morals or some shit like that. Kenpachi could only get afraid of the power of someone and then would get excited. Him being terrified by the madness of Tokinada sounds like something written in a fanfiction. The others could get terrified by it I guess.

      @@kurozumi9834 To be fair Kenpachi himself was more disgusted by it more than anything while everyone else sees Tokinada as having lost his marbles. It certainly has to do with the fact that Tokinada wants conflict with 'weak' humans while he fancies himself a powerful warrior who only fights the strong. Ironically Tokinada had earlier pointed out that human military technology will make a real mess of things when he gets his plan up to that point.

      @@kurozumi9834 it’s not fanfiction tier but it definitely doesn’t feel like him. But well; it’s Narita who wrote it. He’s an amazing author but he won’t be able to write Kubo’s characters exactly like him. It’s astounding that Narita was able to write such an amazing novel using a story that isn’t originally his even with a few parts that just don’t have some characters feel like them

    The blade is me is legitimately my favorite stretch of chapters in fiction. Like nothing comes close, not anything else in Bleach, not anything in any of my other favorite series.
    Well ignoring every scene with Bambietta. Bambietta scenes > The Blade is me > everything else
