My metronome drive me crazy and, like you said, I often get a little ahead of it. I now only use it for practising scales. When strumming songs, I find a drum machine so much easier.
Thank you. This is really helpful to learn chord changes to new or difficult chords. I have been working on C to Bm and I found that if I use the metronome say at 50 BPS it really helps and then I can slowly get faster as I feel comfortable with the chord change.
Just starting out so I bought a Boss DB90 and my timing isn't terrible, but if I try to play scales for instance I find it that I easily get ahead or behind the beat without noticing. Right hand on its own at reasonable BPM, not that hard. I see myself using it long term as I learn scales and chords, since I'm on my own for the time being. It's pretty intuitive if you're tech minded 🙂
Honestly the metronome is so frustrating for me. It is honestly why I gave up on guitar on the first place. I mean my skills are pretty good and I can play certain songs on time from memory but when it comes to playing with a metronome or other people it's hard for me to connect the left and right brain. Makes me wonder how many other would be great guitarists get stuck in this purgatory....Giving it another shot at 31, taking lessons from a friend of Satriani, if it can be done I'm going to do it as long as I'm physically able.
Thank you for this video. I just started playing guitar for a new hobby (yesterday was my second lesson) and got one of the apps for tuning and such and saw the metronome feature within it. Good to know I can use that to really learn how beats work.
The metronome is one of those things that I never thought I would need to use. I can strum pretty well to the beat; however, like many other people here, I have found that I end up speeding up when I strum! I really struggle to keep time without tapping my foot. If you have trouble, maybe a bit of good ole' foot tapping!
Opposite problem here. I NEED to break free of the Metronome sometimes! Being also a drummer, we like metronomes a lot so I tend to use it all the time unless using a backing track or music.
Cant wait to go home and try it, i already know its gonna be great, i can play a lot of songs but my timing is just not super great, great video just in time
You know what my dear guitar teacher here in SWE said; one of the best in our country? "I haven't worn out many metronomes!" he said. And I agree with Jörgen, haven't relied much to mets me either. Mets are stiff and dull.
My mom had a piano that she played she had the metronome sitting on the piano I’ve got the metronome now I play the guitar and wanted to try out the metronome I’ve been playing the guitar for a long time never tried using it. I play good but need to work on timing and rhythm more so I can improve my playing
@@1ksubgoalwithoutvids2024 each song has a different tempo you set the metronome to bpm of what ever song you want to learn. What instrument do you play? Justin, do you have any advice on how to practice up strums with a metronome? That’s something I’m struggling with, especially when playing songs on the Justin Guitar app.
If it is simply one strum per click how come when I look up the bpm for Wonderwall I see several things saying 175 BPM and far beyond the sun is 84 bpm?

Omfg good luck with that. I watch the live Pneuma w Danny Carey and immediately watched some live Neil Peart vids. Danny is on a completely different planet. It's not even close
These days all you have to do it is download a DAW, select a snare sound and then just put the sheet music timing in snare hits on the time line in quarter, 8ths, 16th etc. Counting 1 e and a is difficult to get timing right.
I hope that someone see's this and can answer this question. I am 54 years old. Started playing off and on since I was 18. I am bad dude I never used a metronome. My question is the metronome has 3 different beeps and one different tone beep. What does that mean? Why is there one different beep and what does that mean to me? My timing is terrible. Does it mean the measure is starting over? Like one, two, three, FOUR. Or ONE, two, three four, ONE, two, three, four? I hope that made sense.
The conventional way of thinking of this different tone is to count it as ONE. Knowing where the 1st beat is is essential and having a different sound can help with that. Cheers 😊 | Richard_close2u | JustinGuitar Official Guide & Approved Teacher www.justinguitar.com/donate
Ive been trying to learn snow by the rhcp and it's very long and I can't play at full speed so I set the metronome to the highest tempo I can struggle to play well at and over time I've been slowly increasing the tempo

Drums are easier but I think metronome is harder but better maybe?
Drum tracks aren't a substitute for metronome practice though. Learned the hard way
I finally started to use a metronome, and man I can't find a nice tone as the normal ones drive my Tinnitus up the wall. Actually it hurts my ears.
Intermediate guitarists but the first time I am trying to use metronome.

What about when you're finger picking? Do you play the bass notes that you let ring on each blip of the metronome or each not individually?

Was so wishing I had one last night!
The goal is to play in sync with the metronome not just in tempo.
Great explanation
Fiiiiiiiine. I have resisted this. I’ll stop 😂.
How would you use a metronome with music that has a lot of runs, holds, trills on classical guitar?
Can anyone tell me if theres a way to mute beats? Like if i only want a click on beat 2 and 4, how would i mute 1 and 3? Thanks
Great job!
Do you need to use metronome in full band?
Thankyou sir
Why do none of the digital metronomes have the click sound? They all have digital sounds. The click is the best

How do you practice solos, licks and other songs that change speed. I get confused on that
