  • In this video, I show my process for lost wax casting a custom sterling silver mount for an alligator tooth pendant. Before starting the lost wax casting process, there were several issues that needed to be addressed. Throughout the video, I go over my approach to fixing the tooth and how to make a strong and detractive mount.

    I'm a vet tech and had to extract my boy's canine. This worked like a charm. Now i get to keep a piece of him with me forever. Thank you for this ❤

    That is a lot of work and equipment along with skill. I didn't realize how much work goes into that. Loved how it turned out!

    Hello!!
    Please can you describe to us how you removed the wax from the tooth after completing carving.

    • @GraceNoteForge
      @GraceNoteForge  ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course! I used a file to carve a slight taper (or cone shape) at the end of the tooth. This helped with being able to release the wax after it was melted on.

    That’s awesome. I need to get a Gator claw done like that for my Grandson? Are you accepting jobs?

    question... so i wanted to make some gator tooth pendants too from shed teeth. i use uv resin and wanted to fill in the hollow part. with how resin heats up, will that crack the tooth?

    You are real artist. Weren’t you able to design the tooth mold using the same 3D software you use for more ease and sharpened details ?

    • @GraceNoteForge
      @GraceNoteForge  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much! That's true, I would have probably been able to get better detail with 3D printing but the main reason I used carved wax instead is that the base of the tooth was an irregular shape. In order to make a 3D printed mount, I would have had to 3D model the irregular shape of the tooth first and then model the mount to fit. So It was just faster to do it by hand. And it was more fun! I really enjoy wax carving :)

      @@GraceNoteForge please if you are planning to do paid courses on how to be professional in designing new models and mimicking ( already in hand models ) please refer me to your teaching platform. Thanks for your decent responses

      Sorry, I don't currently have any courses available but there is a fantastic TH-cam Channel by Peter Grande that you should check out. He has several tutorials about using CAD design for custom Jewelry and 3d printing. He even goes over how to use the JewelCraft add-on in Blender that I mention in my other comment.
      Here’s a link to one of his videos that you might find useful:

      I hope this helps. Best of luck with your project!

    How did you remove the wax cap from the tooth prior to casting? Or does it just slip off easily?

    • @GraceNoteForge
      @GraceNoteForge  ปีที่แล้ว

      The wax came apart from the tooth pretty easily 😊

    When you mix resin dose it use equal parts of both to make it?

    • @GraceNoteForge
      @GraceNoteForge  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, it uses equal parts for both bottles of resin.

    Hi, sorry for the basic question as I am new to wax, how did u remove the wax from the tooth? Is it easy to pop off?
    Asking because I would like to do this on gemstones and I worry that the wax would stick to the stone and not come off!
    Thank you 🙂

    • @GraceNoteForge
      @GraceNoteForge  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep! The wax pops off pretty easily. As long as the wax doesn't wrap around the stone too much, it should come apart just fine. 👍

    • @GraceNoteForge
      @GraceNoteForge  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That was borax powder. It's supposed to help keep the metal from oxidizing too much. 😊
