Used to play these records as a boy in the 1940's on an old wind-up gramophone. The house and the family are gone now, except for me and I'm a long, long way away these days. But the memories never leave you, they're truly indelible . . .

I particularly like Billy Cotten's version of Ellington's Sophisticated Lady. Thanks.

Both Sam and Al,s vocal versions of the Peek Pom song with Ray Noble are excellent.

A wonderful selection of tunes from 1933! I particularly like the Jack Payne number, very calm and pleasant. As usual, great sound and wonderful photos and illustrations!

Although the label of the Jack Payne record states that the song is a foxtrot, it is clearly a waltz - and I thought it a suitable conclusion to the selection.

Al Bowlly,s version with Ray Noble,s New Mayfair orchestra was a better-known version.

A marvelous and varied set from one of my favorite years in dance band music!

Before listening to your video I wrote down what I considered to be the big hits of 1933. Yet not one appeared. Perhaps that is not a bad thing, as your video is your personal musical reflection for 1933. It was anything but predictable as I listened to a harmonious and engaging selection . So thank you for sharing not just the music but the ephemera too. My favourite? well I wouldn't want to be predictable..(but I agree with Paal).

I choose records which I enjoy, consider good, and try to vary the artists and the moods. Must admit I have never based these "year" videos on hits of the year, but rather a personal choice. The limiting factor is the size of my collection.

I also like the picture of Wilbur with his HMV model 130 in the background. I had also had one of those and it sounded incredibly well, easily surpassing a 163, with its superior mid and treble, the 163 had a bit more bass, but completely missed the presence the 130 has.

I enjoy your year series as well. You also do great work on your sound. I can tell these are improved over what the originals would have sounded like.

I had 'Pomerian' by Raie da Costa, but this version is way better.
Peter I very much like your 'year'series. They're some of my favourite YT series that I play almost every week. The early 30s really were the glory years of British Dance Bands.

I'm very pleased that you are enjoying these "year" selections. This one fills a gap as I have covered 1928 to 1937 and 1933 was the missing piece of the jigsaw. I have still to go earlier in the 20s and into the 40s.
