  • Fight Comic Mortal Weapons: www.amazon.com/Mortal-Weapons... Salvodor Sanchez is regarded as one of boxing’s greatest champions, and if not for his untimely death, many believe he would have become widely recognized as the greatest Featherweight champion of all time. Sanchez defended his title against quality opposition 9 times in 2 and a half years. He shared boxer of the year with Sugar Ray Leonard, and even received praise from the legendary Willie Pep, who said he was glad that Sanchez wasn’t around in his time.
Salvador's movements looked so pristine and graceful that it’s easy to miss the complexity and incredible unorthodoxy of his style. He is the last boxer you would ever call awkward, but by all accounts, the techniques he blended together should have made him so.
Sanchez was a fleet footed agility fighter who used lateral movements to cut angles, and a power punching pressure fighter who used low line head movement to push forward and load power from the ground.

The Modern Martial Artist... Did you notice how much at certain moments Sanchez looked like Bruce Lee? At 2:30 minutes in I swear it even looked like Chuck Norris he is fighting, I just wondered if you noticed this also or am I just crazy? Great post, as usual, you're the TH-cam goat of breaking down fighters and great fights always great insights have a great day.

      control,of all technical technic,unseen before.Floyd,uses running to
      get away,when hurt Salvador's technic
for avoiding getting hurt was part of
      his technic.He had a good chin,but why
      get hit.Ruben Castillo a class A+fighter,
gave him probably the best fight. No fighter before or since, has the same

in agility n precision, is Jaun Manuel

@Ser Bronn Lighter-weight fighters hit their primes younger, and are used up earlier. Too much reliance on their reflexes, which is the first thing to “leave” a fighter. There are exceptions, but they mostly just prove the rule. Chavez was done as a serious contender by his early thirties. I think I’d have to say that JCC is the greatest fighter whose prime I got to watch in real time. But he was only human. (Not for nothin but Pernell Whitaker best Chavez’ ass and got robbed, so JCC should’ve had his “perfect” record spoiled before he lost to Frankie Randall. That being said, it takes nothing away from the joy I got watching Chavez ply his trade, keeping Mexican Boxing 🥊 going strong after the death of SS. THE GUY WAS A FRIGGIN’ SURGEON. The Meldrick Taylor fight still takes my breath away, even if JCC should have lost. He never stopped body-punching even though Meldrick outscored him badly throughout the entire 12 rounds.
And of course the reigning logic regarding Salvador Sanchez says that he would have gone on to dominate the eighties, maybe even setting up more fights against Azumah Nelson. And Jeff Fenech. Sigh. Shit, he and Chavez could and should have fought each other!! Wow, think about THAT! What a matchup...
But SS would have hit a wall just like every boxer/athlete does. 23 years old as a Featherweight is more like 30 years old is to a heavyweight.
But my point is not to take anything away from SS, he was a ridiculously good boxer who not only robbed himself of a great career, he deprived US, as fans lol... but people no longer living on this plane of existence don’t concern themselves with such things. Maybe - just maybe - Salvador Sanchez is exactly where he’d rather be. He’s probably somewhere sparring with Willie Pep.

The man was simply amazing. I remember I was at night class up at Jersey City State College when it came over the speaker in the Student Union Building. I was just walking into the building when the news stated that featherweight champion Salvador Sanchez was killed today in Mexico in a car accident. I was shocked, I stood there like someone had just snatched my lunch and the cops saw it and laughed it off. I was devasted. I watched both fights of Sanchez and Lopez. Little Red Lopez was one of my favorite fighters. Lopez could take a beating and bounce back like Holyfield. No one withstood Lopez when he started his march, no one but Sanchez. Sanchez dismantled Lopez and you knew by the 5th round that you were going to be saying goodbye to an old friend and hello to the new kid in the neighborhood. I watched the second fight between the two and it was like watching a surgeon rid someone of a huge tumor whose time had come. I watched him destroy Gomez, something I didn't think was possible and I saw him methodically take apart a young and brave Azumah Nelson. My God, he was good! And he never looked tired, even after a good exchange he walked back to his corner and sat down, not a heavy breath seen! Folks he had the goods! Dead at 23! God bless you Salvador Sánchez Narváez, God bless you, and thank you!

@@RogueReplicant HAHAHA! Dude, there are quiet Puerto Ricans and loud-mouth Mexicans. Cotto and Margarito for example. I'm boricua and I love Salvador. Loved his fight against Gomez. You know when you're rooting for a soccer team, and your favorite striker has a one on one shot on goal, and he kicks the SHIT out of it, but the goalie stops it? You can either say, "Que Cabron!", or nod your head, clap, and say, "that was a hell of a save"... I know a lot of old school PR's that said, "tremenda pelea"... My pops put me on to Salvador... Nothing but respect for him.

@@estebangarcia102 The key word in my comment is "as usual". Of course there are exceptions, and you are right that the scumbag Margarito is a pathetic trash talker and Cotto is a gentleman.
But it is also undeniable that many (not all, but many) Puerto Rican boxers run their mouth waaay too much and then get the shit kicked out of them. Edwin Rosario, Wilfredo Gómez and Héctor Camacho are a few examples of clowns who trash talked while their Mexican opponents remained quiet and respectful. Trash talking is considered not cool in Mexican culture, especially among boxers.

    • @estebangarcia102
      @estebangarcia102 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@RogueReplicant Bro, Gomez was the beast at bantamweight. He moved up in weight to featherweight to fight the beast there (Salvador Sanchez). Salvador told Gomez b4 the fight, ” You had better take your picture before the fight, because after I get through with you, you won’t recognize yourself.” That's some cold shit to say b4 a fight! AND he backed it up! Props. Both roosters fought like WARRIORS, and Gomez went out like a trooper. I can make a list of cocky Mexican fighters, and a list of humble Boricua fighters, and vice-versa, but to divide is not my intent. The term "as usual" seems cool, until it is applied to our respective peoples. "As usual" the Mexican did this, "as usual" the Black guy did that. "Of course the PR reacted that way." I know that it is futile to try to change the mind of someone who would not have it be changed. And that there is no one more blind than the one who does not want to see... but... My Brazilian mother-in-law warned my wife not to marry a PR because PRs hit their women. My mother-in-law got her lip split by her Brazilian boyfriend, and it was ME that waited for him at her house, with a baseball bat. She couldn't SEE THAT. Shit, in my hometown, the "new" Brazilians are warned not to mix with the (American) Blacks or PRs, because the Blacks and PRs are no good. I'm living in Brasil; only PR around, and yet there's no shortage of crime here... Boxing is a sport, not a war for the survival of a people. I treat it as such. I rooted for Mayweather against Cotto. Whatever that makes me in anyone's eyes, that's fine by me. I love a certain style of fighter; hit and don't get hit. I love ANY fighter that is a master of that style (i also value heart). A fighter's loud mouth doesn't necessarily make me like them more (or less), but it's a trait that is present in fighters of all races. And i have seen the whole spectrum of personality types in all shades of people... I still call bullshit on your statement, but do so with all due respect. In the end, we can agree to disagree. As far as I'M concerned? Que viva la raza... I love the food, the music, the women of Mexico... and Blood In Blood Out is my shit. P. S. Boricuas have a few wins in the Mexico-Puerto Rico boxing rivalry too. The courage of your "enemy" does you honor. Peace.

The dipping overhand right didn't work as well against the shorter Castanon, who usually didn't take the bait. But as always, Sanchez methodically adjusted and found ways to pick apart any opponent.
