It is a tragic story with a moral lesson. Nothing wrong with that. Songs sung in this style are frequently about tragedies and the consequences of bad decisions.
As a serious response, I interpreted that the yellow petal falling into his hand was giving him closure. Like obviously he was being brutish, selfish and stupid, but his ultimate motivation was to get rid of the willow anchoring the maiden to the forest in the first place. Erutan's original illustration shows the man as more "evil" simply because the lyrics say he owns her now that the tree is gone (and that he's more or less jumping to drastic measures after getting rejected). This animation shows short flashbacks between the two, this kinda implies that there is some kind of small difference between motivation of the man that Erutan was giving us with her original composition. ALSO while she's dying she doesn't hate him, you don't gently touch the face of someone who murdered you out of cold blood. This is all purely my speculation and I am by no means an expert but at the end he clearly realizes that he caused her death and is being all sad and stuff but her becoming a flower with the petal etc is symbolic that her spirit goes on. He also leaves the ax behind, that's gotta be symbolic of something right?? Sorry, it's a very long winded book report and I can go on because I got A LOT of feelings about this song and this new (uncredited) animation gave it a new angle, and I kind of want to put in my opinion on what i think was actually happening. I love the animation but it made him look more nice and soft. The story reminds me of those hearless people who just take and dont care, here he tries his best to get her but then he realises his mistake.
He never loved her, he loved the idea of her. Love is based on genuinely, trust, and familiarity(as in knowing each other), nothing to do with looks. The guy was too selfish and stupid to understand.

I would say that the young man's ideas are romantic, not the song. He thinks he can be the here, save the damsel in distress, and live happily ever after. But it doesn't work out that way.

Beautiful animation and story telling. You take on it makes the situation even more twisted and beautiful. When you think a friend cares for you but is to selfish to listen to no and understand your needs. I like to imagine that the flashback sequence started off true with him sharing food with her and then his imagination started to wonder and her rejection( wed him never) was made into the dance sequence by his mind. Makes this even darker. Also that kidnapper better be having a sad smile because he realized she picked death over him and not happiness or I'll be pissed.

I like how they actually give the hunter some type of humanity unlike in the other version, they actually showed he came everyday to teach the fairy and dance with her instead of the explanation just being "I saw you you're beautiful so you should marry me" And how in this version it shows him regretting taking her from her willow tree but in the end being glad that she came back as a flower and still was a part of the forest
The point of the original is apparently based on how young men take nymphs as their brides whether they want to or not, and Erutan wanted to give the nymph some say in the matter. I don't like how they don't credit Erutan however.
1- it’s not the other version, it’s the original by Erutan (who wasn’t credited) 2-the story is about a man who lusts for a dryad(tree spirit) as you said “I saw you you’re beautiful so you should marry me” Is the whole point.its vanity and lust not love. 3- she said No and so he KILLED her. And listen to the man's ramblings to himself "I'll take the green eyed fairy and she shall be my wife. With her I'll raise my children, with her I'll live my life" Thats not someone who moves out of lust says, thats love and possible obsession. I dont know what kind of weird romantic fantasies you've been reading but, love is not always a happy thing. It can make someone do horrible things, lust has its limits. So i remember the first time i heard this song i was so in love with it that i wrote a short story about, and just now i realized how my story deviated from the original. I just thought that when people tell stories, they highlight what interests them. When i wrote the story i keep in mind to capture the essence and overall enchantment of the song, the love story in particular, but as soon as i read it again right now, it did not retain the original piece. You're right, this is based on dryads, who in mythology project the appearance of a human woman living by a tree but in reality *are* the trees.

As much as I dont like the romantization of the song I cannot deny the lovely animation and tragic story that is being told through it.

@ImpGoddess At the end it makes it seem as though her dying was the separation of lovers rather than her escaping (though in a tragic way) a man willing to kidnap her, not caring for her opinion and force her into wedlock. That and he just went along with his life after her death like he wasn't the one who caused it.
I would say that the young man's ideas are romantic, not the song. He thinks he can be the here, save the damsel in distress, and live happily ever after. But it doesn't work out that way.

Beautiful animation and story telling. You take on it makes the situation even more twisted and beautiful. When you think a friend cares for you but is to selfish to listen to no and understand your needs.
I like to imagine that the flashback sequence started off true with him sharing food with her and then his imagination started to wonder and her rejection( wed him never) was made into the dance sequence by his mind. Makes this even darker.
Also that kidnapper better be having a sad smile because he realized she picked death over him and not happiness or I'll be pissed.
This is a great song, but as a reminder, that is why you should respect women and not force them to do something if they don’t want to submit😊👍😊

I like how they actually give the hunter some type of humanity unlike in the other version, they actually showed he came everyday to teach the fairy and dance with her instead of the explanation just being "I saw you you're beautiful so you should marry me" And how in this version it shows him regretting taking her from her willow tree but in the end being glad that she came back as a flower and still was a part of the forest
The point of the original is apparently based on how young men take nymphs as their brides whether they want to or not, and Erutan wanted to give the nymph some say in the matter.
I don't like how they don't credit Erutan however.
1- it’s not the other version, it’s the original by Erutan (who wasn’t credited)
2-the story is about a man who lusts for a dryad(tree spirit)
as you said “I saw you you’re beautiful so you should marry me” Is the whole point.its vanity and lust not love.
3- she said No and so he KILLED her. You could argue he didn’t know it would kill her, but even then he destroyed her home, and kidnapped her with the intent to force her to marry him.
I know everyone is entitled to their own opinions but it just rubs be the wrong way when people try to romanticise what would essentially be abuse.

Now that you mention it, this video *was* published after Infinity War came out, and it is indeed very similar...
So, I love the art and all, but the situation shouldn’t be romantic, hell even in the original it wasn’t that she didn’t like him, it was if she left she would die, in popular folk lore if a fairy ,like her who is bound to a tree, would die if they left it for to long, it is why she turned to a flower after exiting the forest, though even if she was able escape him and get back to the forest she would have died anyway as he cut down her life source. Also please include credit, it isn’t that hard to do. Others worked very hard on the original, so please make sure people know who to thank for the beautiful songs and original story.

Thats not someone who moves out of lust says, thats love and possible obsession. I dont know what kind of weird romantic fantasies you've been reading but, love is not always a happy thing. It can make someone do horrible things, lust has its limits.

If it were me, I would’ve done what Carmen Allen said and built a house near the tree. Even if she doesn’t see me as a romantic interest, I’d at least be able to see her everyday. Sometimes, if you can’t take something or someone with you, draw nearer to them yourself.

So i remember the first time i heard this song i was so in love with it that i wrote a short story about, and just now i realized how my story deviated from the original. I just thought that when people tell stories, they highlight what interests them. When i wrote the story i keep in mind to capture the essence and overall enchantment of the song, the love story in particular, but as soon as i read it again right now, it did not retain the original piece. I just simply wrote what i liked and didnt follow the original
