In general, what supply companies do you use for:
Tubes, Caps, Resistors, Wire, Solder, Chassis,
Turrets, Transformers and anything else I'm
too ignorant to think about asking? LOL

For tubes, so far I've used jj and electro harmonix to great results. Caps vary a lot for each use. Electrolytic, I like F&T, jj, nichicon, sprague, kemet, etc. For other coupling I really like Cornell dublier 715 or 6PS. Wire I like 22 gauge nte solid core for everything except heaters for the power tubes, and i use 18 gauge for those. Resistors, vishay Dale, RN65 when I can and generally any decent other brands, like yageo. Solder I have linked below, kester, 0.031. Chassis' it really depends on the project. I got my eyelets from mouser, and transformers from Hoffman amps or tubesandmore.com

cool-got my amp playing. Going to check all my voltages tomorrow. I think I need to put a 5y3 in it instead of the 5u4. It is just a little to much, I think. It is loud and sounding great. If it is going to sound like I think, it will blow my blues jr. out of the water. May have a few bugs to work out. I wish I had a heat gun to check temp. Just seems like the tubes are getting pretty hot ,going by just feeling of them. Don't know how hot they are suppose to get.I think the output transformer is what is making it sound powerful. It came out of a 60 watt amp.It was a power strip that was causing a lot of my problems. I had my current limiter and variac plugged in it. I had a couple two prong things plugged in it and they may have been turned wrong and putting positive power on my neutral. I tore my variac and my limiter a part, thought something was wrong with them and then it dawned on me about the strip. Talk about driving a fellow crazy.!!!!! Thanks for all your help.

The power tubes will get very hot. What you want to do is make sure the bias isn't too hot. Also, the output transformer needs to be at re right impedance for the output tubes too match the speaker as well or you'll burn up the per tubes or the transformer if the impedance is too far off. Glad to hear it's working!

i was reveiwing the difference in sound quality between carbon film vs the metal film. i guess carbon film is better for that vintage sound capapbility vs the matal film witch you said is quite numb in sound. i dont know if i should pick carbon film over metal but yet i heard that there is also oxide matal film. whats the difference?

Help. I have a question. I have lots of filter capacitors below < 1uf.
    .047 @ 600v ; .022; .0068. Etc.
I’m having trouble finding these values. I know I can apply a 10% rule either way but still can’t find these low values. I’m not sure what is an acceptable value to go up to. I Anybody know who sells these values. I’m in North America. Most sites I see start at 1uf and go up from there. Thanks.

Sometimes they are listed in nano farad or Pico farad values. Look up a chart online for the conversion, and then search for those values. I can never remember the exact conversion from uF to nF to pF. It's all ten based, do easy, but I just cheat and look at the charts. This one is good in.element14.com/uf-nf-pf-capacitor-conversion-table
