Worked for a Japanese electronic company in the 80s right there at trabuco and Irvine boulevard. The coolness of this location was el toro. Whenever the blue angels were in town, they would practice here and on top of said electronic company was a neat roof (is it roof or ruff) they would fly upside down right over our building. One time I was having lunch up there and said blue angel pilot flipped me off. He was just jealous over my primo viewing spot. I used to jog from Alton and Irvine boulevard to the 241 right past the old el toro base housing. Seeing abandoned swing sets and condos was always sad. The other not so cool part of that location is there is a prison there, James Musick prison. Once several prisoners escaped causing my building to be on lockdown for a while. That sucked plus the frequent fires that burned through there. Good times.
Yup I live in Irvine and always wanted to live here as a kid in the 90s. Dream came true and although we flirt with wanting to move it is VERY DIFFICULT considering the Whole Foods, Spectrum, amazing bike trails, clean streets, Shady Canyon's Amazing mansions, being regarded as the safest city in America with Top schools and a quick jaunt to LA or SD on the weekends. The beach is 10 mins away and of course the CA weather. We are indeed spoiled and it makes me want to work harder everyday to continue to raise my kids here. It's hard to leave. Thanks for this flyover!!!
Thanks for the tour. Irvine seems super orderly ! Those houses are so consistent they look like they are from a video game. Speaking of video games, I believe Blizzard Entertainment has their offices in Irvine.
My husband and I enjoy very much your adventures in the air. We miss living in Mission Viejo as we moved to Northern California and if you have the time would love to see the area around Saddleback Church, Glenn Ranch Road, Foothill Ranch, Trabuco Canyon, and Lake Mission Viejo. Thank you for contributing to positivity during this challenging time. Be safe.
Awesome. Every one of your 'Micah Flies' videos is awesome. It's not the kind of view we get very often. I love seeing LA and its environs from above. It is so beautiful. Thank you Micah, as always 🚁
As a kid in the 60's I grew up in Laguna Beach and everything you flew over was solid Orange groves and we used to ride our dirt bikes thru it. I moved in 87 and would love you to fly from I5 up laguna canyon to main beach/up park ave and down temple hills.
Original War of the Worlds film mentions El Toro MCAS. I grew up next door in Lake Forest. I miss the F-18 operations and the air show. Good times there!
Thank you Micah Muzio - I used to live in Irvine, CA and worked un Tustin, CA. Fun to visit the old neighborhood. 2:14 - Hey Micah - I worked at that Mazda facility! 3:52 - the residential/agriculture development plan was one of the things that attracted me to Irvine. And that was in place from the beginning. "Planed Community." It was "is" great in my opinion. 4:01 - I had a business partner that lived right behind where the El Torro Marine Base was. Had the big dirigible hangers. Cool. 7:47 - The Orange Balloon - now that is new since I lived there. What a day trip THAT would make. I wonder if there are restaurants or maybe a picnic park around there - for the Grandkids you know. 14:35 - Irvine Lake - had some good time there with the family. I think there was a small zoo there if memory serves me. Had some rescued Bald Eagles and stuff.
They use the landing strip for the parking lot for the amphitheater. The city of Lake Forest, was originally named El Toro. When El Toro Airbase closed, the city didn’t want to be associated with other cities that had base closures. So the name changed to Lake Forest.
I dont really remember it directly but when i was a kid i went to a air show at El Toro. I remember when Independence day came out me and my dad talking about it.
Freeway interchanges are fascinating in their design. Old-school designs like cloverleaf were inefficient because the curves were so sharp they slowed traffic considerably. They were also more compact so commuters had less time to access the proper lane which also led to slowing. The 405/5 that Micah showed has gentle curves, more lanes, and more distance for the commuter to prepare
As a former F/A crew for Eastern Airlines you are doing a fantastic job pointing out certain things on your aerial tours, I used to have property in YuccaValley a long time ago. Now I live in Florida and from what I see in CA it looks like your all very well packed in on housing density, and in Florida the same thing is taking place. I still love seeing things from above. Keep up the great videos Micah and thank you for posting and stay safe.
What a trip! Irvine was the model modern planned community in the 1970s, a checkerboard pattern of farmland and development. Mission Viejo was the graceful version of Irvine with gently curving roads, the idyllic place to raise a family away from the city problems in L.A. County. Take a look at a "Western City" magazine or ad insert of the L.A. Times from then. I haven't been there since, so this founder of Irvine was ... A trip! Thank you
When you made a turn at the 405/5 interchange . The area you flew over will be a Military cemetery for all branches. I plan on being planted there .thanks for your fly over. You almost flew over my house. Be safe
At 2:03 on the upper right, the townhomes known as Los Olivos, is built on the property where the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre was, where Wild Rivers water park was, furthermore, depending on the age of the viewers, this particular property had a business and it was known as Lion Country Safari. It closed back in 1984. There’s a tree on the hillside, a lonely tree, supposedly Frasier the lion is buried somewhere around that tree.
At 5:28, in 1973, I crewed on a Navy C-130 on Saturdays from Cherry Point to El Toro bringing Marines to the west coast and Sunday mornings we turned around and headed back to Cherry Point with boot campers going to Camp La June !
The tree nursery at Sand Canyon Ave., in addition to providing a sound barrier to lessen noise from the freeway, is an efficient use of land under those power lines.
In the sixties (when I was a teenager) My buddies and I used to drive out to Irvine (from Tustin) and drink beer in the endless orange groves that were here before the endless house came in.
I grew up in the Tustin Hills area and I remember in the 70's there was lots of orange groves and strawberry fields around Irvine, also they had the best drag strip.
Wow! and I thought Oakley sunglasses were expensive. Oh and yes! You are on my giant 140 inch screen again. Spectacular view as always! Thank you!!!!!!!
You would be surprised how many corporate offices are headquartered in Irvine. When I do deliveries I am constantly in places like Coca Cola North America, Blizzard Ent, Valuspa hq, ROSS hq, etc. Almost everyone you could imagine.
The 5/405 interchange in South OC is commonly called the El Toro Y, or even just “The Y”. Fun Fact: properties owned by The Irvine Company have green parking stripes in their parking lots so that the owner, Donald Bren, can easily spot his real estate from his helicopter.
I'm about to move to Great Park from Chino Hills in a week lol. The balloon costs a few bucks and you get a decent view of Great Park / Irvine Spectrum. It's a great community to raise a family in, and they're literally turning Great Park into a mini theme park.
Micah! The operations center at Loma Ridge! Spent plenty of time there on the pad with our birds, UH1H Hueys (OCFA) fire crew 57. Brush monkeys rule, man. Miss those days.
Another nearby landmark is the offices of Kelly Blue Book! I saw the logo off I-5, north of The Spectrum Center when I drove by. One of their filming locations is the nearby cul-de-sac on a field.
Great flyover Micah! Would you consider the Inland Empire area? Specifically Redlands, Ca. Perhaps begin in Riverside. Fly through Reche Canyon( elevation change is small) then simply flyover the wonderfully beautiful Redlands,Ca. Great historic town. Dedicated mostly to citrus growing back in the day.
Great video as always! I would love to see you fly over Dana Point, Laguna Niguel, Aliso Viejo, San Juan Cap area. I’ll also second the Laguna Beach/Canyon request.
The Interchange was way cool. I went to an air show at El Toro back in the day. Cool beans. Lots of protests on the ground in Los Angeles as of this post. Can you do another night tour?
Those fields you did see were originally left un-developed as part of the crash zone for Marine Corp Air Station El Toro. Obviously that is no longer needed. They are slowly being developed.
The District has very nice *new* communities now. Expensive but very nice and convenient. The hangers are turning into a STEM school that's opening up this school year (not sure if COVID delayed it)!
Another interesting fly-over Micah. I've been to Irvine 3 times either on holiday or filming. First was in 1980 on my first trip to the US, when my wife and I picked up an RV near John Wayne Airport on our holiday. I cant believe how much development there has been in the past 40 years; much of the housing and most of the shopping malls that you flew over simply weren't there back then. The last time was 20 years ago whilst working in LA on a UK TV show called Scrapheap Challenge (the US version was called Junkyard Wars, some may remember it.) We filmed a couple of times at a rather run-down, closed for the season, water park near the 5/405 interchange. I recall that hymn singing from a nearby open-air evangelical church kept interfering with our audio. I've looked over google satellite-view but I cant find it. Must be long gone, probably a housing estate now. Some of our other locations were too far out of LA for you to fly over, Kernville, Mammoth Mountain and Ventura Racetrack (very attractive town), but I keep hoping to see Sun Valley (site of the Junkyard) and Hansen Dam.
Are you from the UK sir? I grew up in Irvine in the late 90s, moved out and am about to move back into the city next week. It has changed a lot in the 20 years so I can't imagine 40 years. Definitely give this city a visit if you ever get a chance. Bet it'll bring back some memories!
The water park was called Wild Rivers, and that and the Irvine Meadows Amphitheater were torn down about 10 years ago and replaced with a housing development called Los Alivos at Irvine Spectrum, if you want to see what it looks like now from Google earth. A new, larger Wild Rivers is planned to be built at the OC Great Park (the former El Toro Marine base)
Enjoyed seeing Irvine Lake. Since you were on the east side of the county it would be cool to see aerial pass overs of Silverado, Trabuco and Modjeska canyons.
The only connection I have to aviation is, that I was in the USAF for 22 years. I have flow in C130, C5, C9, F15, C141, and more but have never had the opportunity to go up in a helicopter; heck I am not even from LA but I love these videos. I like it when he actually flyers over something I recognize from GTA V. Please keep these coming. Cheers.
I’ve been following your videos throughout the pandemic.. thanks for allowing me to see a different view of life !!👍🤝 Just 1 request... (Can you please fly over the Santa Anita Race course in one of your upcoming videos ?). It will be appreciated. Thanks 🙏
Use to live in the Los Olivos apartments across from spectrum. Now mortgage a 2700sq ft house near Austin for 1/3 the rent of that 1 bedroom. Seeing the spectrum like that makes me miss it though. Definitely considering those glasses you got. Would completely solve the pressure on the sides of my face with the headsets.
Hey Micah! This was really cool to watch, I live right next to the Great Park area, and I could see the roof of my house from your video! I’ve always wondered how Irvine looks from that high up. Too bad i didn’t have the apex blue CR parked outside, you definitely would have noticed it 😅
The irvine company originally owned and developed the whole city. They are holding out on that farmland till the time is right for them to develop it and get the most value out of it. Probably in the next 5 to ten years. It will all be developed. Irving's population will be over 400,000
@4:33 Taco Bell corporate headquarters center top edge of screen, @8:36 @8:50 Great Park Ice Rink - Public Rinks and Anaheim Ducks NHL practice rink. You might want to do another Irvine video someday, there are a lot of national and global corporate headquarters in Irvine.
Kinda wish you went to UC Irvine but you did that last time so its okay. But in the university video you missed cal state LA. Or maybe it was in another video :b
You flew over my aunt's friend's apartment lol. Hey, next time you fly over Irvine, do you think you could do a flyover of Blizzard Entertainment studios? :)

Saw my house, it’s the one with the orange roof
These videos are so relaxing and pleasant

I live in Irvine and yes the vibe is that this city is extremely safe, clean and well planned out. It’s the main reason I live here.
Thanks for the tour. Irvine seems super orderly ! Those houses are so consistent they look like they are from a video game. Speaking of video games, I believe Blizzard Entertainment has their offices in Irvine.
In 1:30 in the left lower corner the four buildings (shaped like two L )

Thanks for the El Toro overflight. Sad that the blimp hangar is gone.
The blimp hangars are at the former Tustin Marine Air Station nearby and both are still there (for now)
Really like how you’ve added labeling to different POI. Helps us that are less familiar with different things that you’re highlighting.
As a kid in the 60's I grew up in Laguna Beach and everything you flew over was solid Orange groves and we used to ride our dirt bikes thru it. I moved in 87 and would love you to fly from I5 up laguna canyon to main beach/up park ave and down temple hills.
As a Marine air winger, thank you for your EL Toro flyover. I had many friends that worked there. 👍
Original War of the Worlds film mentions El Toro MCAS. I grew up next door in Lake Forest. I miss the F-18 operations and the air show. Good times there!

I also attended beckman high school. Cool to see some helicopters and planes from time to time fly low over the football field.
When you made a turn at the 405/5 interchange . The area you flew over will be a Military cemetery for all branches. I plan on being planted there .thanks for your fly over. You almost flew over my house. Be safe
That explains why there are all those flags off of Bake. Always wondered why while driving by.
Ahh. Good to know!!
Thank you for making these!
My old stompin’ grounds! The tour actually brought a tear to my eye...thank you!

Great video! So cool to see you fly over my home from that perspective

Stop flying in my drones airspace. Haha
Btw the Irvine spectrum parking comment was hilarious. Gotta know it to understand it for sure.
This is so cool thank you Micah!!!

Great upload! Refreshing video, and great shots of Irvine.
Really cool to see my home area from the skies. :)
So cool! I live in Tustin and once lived in Irvine.
These videos are cool. I got to see my old home and elementary school in 9rvine before I moved to Texas.
You would be surprised how many corporate offices are headquartered in Irvine. When I do deliveries I am constantly in places like Coca Cola North America, Blizzard Ent, Valuspa hq, ROSS hq, etc. Almost everyone you could imagine.
i live in one of the houses seen at 13:10 and always wondered whats over the mountains lol thank you for showing me
I still call it El Toro too.

As the video guy for Kelley Blue Book I'm VERY familiar with that cul-de-sac. 😁
Hi Micah always look forward to your videos, can you do Ladera Ranch Mission Viejo, Coto Area and also 241 toll road????
You flew over my former apartment complex (yup the across the way from the Target). Great seeing my old place from the air.
The trees are a sound barrier between the houses and the free way , , huge difference to the lives of the folk who live there.
Sooo many trees and bushes and grass in Irvine i love it
I saw my house which was cool, great video!
Then do Chino Hills, Diamond Bar, and Rowland Heights please!!!
GREAT video! As always. Thank you very much.
Its crazy how developed Irvine became. Used to be alot of farming
yay thanks Micah!
Great video as always! I would love to see you fly over Dana Point, Laguna Niguel, Aliso Viejo, San Juan Cap area. I’ll also second the Laguna Beach/Canyon request.

And just a few weeks ago you said in one of your car videos that “no one watches the helicopter videos”... great stuff please keep it up. 😄
We’re living in wild times, man! 💁♂️
Funny i didnt know he had car videos, i discovered him through his helicopter videos :b
Cuanto cobras xun paseo contestame
Kinda got creeped out when I saw this in my youtube recommended considering I live in Irvine lol

NATIONAL GUARD TIME!!!
There used to be a cars and coffee next to the mazda office. It was the largest in the world before it got shut down

Dang. That's an impressive connection to aviation. I have massive respect for military aviators!🤘
VERY COOL VIDEO👍👍 I ENJOY IT
Robert Flies! I took a 15 min helicopter flight in a Robinson over St. Louis today. On previous trips I shot video, but today I did still photography.
ayy my home town. funny seeing it from the air. I work at a restaurant and deliver pizza to many of the places you show lol
finally flew over my house and neighborhood!
I attended many air shows at El Toro.....wow.
I’ve been following your videos throughout the pandemic.. thanks for allowing me to see a different view of life !!👍🤝
Just 1 request... (Can you please fly over the Santa Anita Race course in one of your upcoming videos ?). It will be appreciated. Thanks 🙏
I Love irvine!
You flew right over me haha, a couple days ago I heard a helicopter and thought that must be Micah
Glad no drones for helicopters to contend with!

Also, the balloon rides are free since FivePoint sponsored free rides for quite a few years as part of a deal.

@8:36 @8:50 Great Park Ice Rink - Public Rinks and Anaheim Ducks NHL practice rink.
You might want to do another Irvine video someday, there are a lot of national and global corporate headquarters in Irvine.
Blizzard, CoreLogic, Google, Microsoft, Incipio, Western Digital, Ingram Micro just to name a few. Irvine is becoming the new Silicon Valley!
4:04 Irvine Meadows and I think before that... Lion Country Safari.
Wait, I live there!
I went to an airshow at El Toro when I was kid and saw the Airwolf helicopter.
I’m so jealous. That sounds awesome!!
Cool video . Mary Babiec
I would love to hear the helicopter and ambient noise in these videos.
Kinda wish you went to UC Irvine but you did that last time so its okay. But in the university video you missed cal state LA. Or maybe it was in another video :b
What happen to the bump hangers in Irvine? Is it still there? I used that back in the days as a reference point every time I go to Irvine
Omg you flew over my ex at 9:10 lol he had a good laugh
Nifty! Home of KBB!😸😸
I've been commuting there for 13 years now.
Wow! How are things in California, Kentucky is starting to open up!
I thought aliens blew up El Toro in 1996 🤔
Is Beverly hills, Hidden hills, Calabasas, Malibu & Pacific Palisades....no fly zones
The trees are grow on a ROW owed by ca DOT and used for other roads
Go to Costa Mesa and/or Lake Forest!
Lived in Irvine before moving to Lake Forest. Love Irvine!
Missing irvine😩....
Would be awesome to see u fky over Whittier Turnbull canyon and the La Mirada areas
You flew over my aunt's friend's apartment lol. Hey, next time you fly over Irvine, do you think you could do a flyover of Blizzard Entertainment studios? :)
Can't have valuable real estate underneath giant power lines, that's why nurseries are usually there.
That’s a nursery in the SCE ROW, not really growing trees, other than to sell.
@ 14:54 land of red tile roofs. You were not kiddin. @ 15:12 wave at your neighbor.. those home are packed tight. omg
Can you do some college tours? Hit up UCLA, USC, CSF, CSSB, UCR, UCSD, U Redlands, Claremont, CS Northridge?
