I love the placket and the color buttons. I sew mine by hand. I have a special way to do it it literally takes minutes per button. A trick I learned in 4-H
Made a big difference in final look compared to no buttons! BTW it just dawned on me in the video the lightening you have on the machine..I know it mainly is for videos but how sweet to be able to see like that while sewing…lol
Perfect timing. I'm new to sewing and have been using the same basic 3/4 sleeve pull over shirt pattern so I can practice. I've done 3 so far and - just like you said - do a slight variation each time. I want to add a placket to this shirt now and also practice with either elastic thread for the end of the sleeves, or cut the bodice just under the breast and add several small pleats before sewing the two pieces together. Sometimes I just make part of a shirt like the sleeves or half the top to practice a certain technique like different neck bands, or adding slits in the sleeves. I don't need to waste an entire shirt worth of fabric to just practice a single modification.
Super cute! Thanks for showing us how it's done. I sew buttons by hand. I feel like buttons on RTW garments are done by machine and there is almost always a little thread poking up on the right side of the button - if you pull that thread it is all over.
Thank you for this! 😉This is a super easy way of doing a faux placket (I thought they would be really hard) 😄. And I must add, I absolutely LOVE your commentary! You’re so funny and easy to listen to ☺️
Thank you for this! I’ve been wanting to learn to do this ever since you first posted the dress on E & M! It is super cute and I can’t wait to use this hack , also on the Staycation, my favorite dress pattern. I also sew buttons by hand. Have never tried it on the sewing machine. Thank you again!
Love your dress! You look cute in everything! I would use my machine to sew buttons on this, but there are times when I choose to hand sew buttons. The thing about machine buttons is to leave a long starter thread and end with a long tail. Make sure both threads are pulled to the back and tie a couple of knots to secure.
Those are magnets. I have a magnetic cutting board so I use magnets as pattern weights. Here is a video on how to create your own magnetic board ❤️th-cam.com/video/JSdCn-OGEic/w-d-xo.html
Yes it's a bit nerve wracking sewing on buttons with a machine but if you use the hand wheel to slowly lower and raise the needle, you'll figure out what stitch width you need. Most buttons have the same hole spacing. Read the button packaging if you still have it. Try putting the button on a piece of paper (no thread) and lower the needle manually with the machine set to a wider zigzag stitch. You'll set the length to 0 so it doesn't move vertically.
Oh WOWWWW!!!! LOVING that gorgeous, rich color of your dress!!!!😍 And thank you so much for this tutorial!!! You made it look so easy!!! Ty❤
You’re so welcome!

Now I want to know the trick to it
That's so wonderful and easy. Thanks.
Love this easy hack. Think I may also try to apply the neckband around the placket so it looks like it opens

This is helpful! How would you do this for a V neck, could you cut the v shape after doing this method?
I do buttons by hand because I'd probably break a needle on a machine...LOL...Love the dress
I get that! 🩷
Love your tutorials, thanks for sharing. I have a question about what you are using to hold your fabric. The green thing, where can I get this?

So cute! Thanks for another awesome video I can’t wait to try this 😀

I really liked this. I just need more practice with button holes. My sewing machine doesn’t have a button hole maker. I sew buttons on my machine.
thats the great thing about this tutorial, no need for button holes!! I don't love them either! 😂
Love it? what type of fabric are you using?
Thank you! it's Rib Knit ❤️
I’m new to sewing. Can this faux placket be used on the front of pajama pants?
Yes, I like the dress with the bold buttons. I sew my buttons by hand. I'm afraid if I do them by machine, I might break a needle.

I don't like to sew on hand and I don't like to sew buttons on the machine
I love sewing by hand! but buttons can be a little time consuming!
Love it 😍
