He din't build a family himself, always traveling for work, all he had was us, his nephews. He always brought us presents from his travels. Today i recognize he was a dangerous solitary man, but he has been great.

Here's a reply folks, From someone who was there when this was born from Bob Seger...one considers that Seger would have been greatly impressed with Metallica's cover and rightly so for Metallica has always been a great group of guys that truly honor and feel their music to the highest degree. It's awesome to hear both versions and listen to the lyrics taking on very diffent meanings as Bob sings them with disillusionment and James with angst.
The Templar Order Musically, Metallica gave this song a heaviness that the original just couldn't come close to. But Bob Seger I believe had a whole other level of heaviness in just the disillusionment he was expressing
Probably the only classic rock song where I prefer the covered version. They didn't stray from the original, just a touch more metal. This FREAKING ROCKS!!
First song I listened to when I got home from Bootcamp. It's such a lonely song and I LOVE it. I needed it. Being around 60+ guys yelling at each other every second of every day for 3 months, getting fucked up every day no matter how hard you try to be perfect. I needed a moment of isolation from everyone, to get to know myself as an individual again. Popped my headphones in, sat in the winter cold outside dark by myself and lit a cigarette to this song on full blast. Best moment ever. Damn what a feeling.
“Remembering what she said...” brings lots of emotions. My mother died from brain cancer in 2007 and this reminds me of her on her death bed, telling me to do great things in life before she dies, and I felt like such a loser for years since I did not achieve anything when she was alive. But I’ve matured and grown a lot since then. I know that my family would be proud of me if they were alive now.
All I have memories is me and my family having breakfast, my father playing with an air guitar while this song is up, this is my favorite song of metallica and each time I hear it I have the same scene coming to my mind
This song couldn't be more true. You listen to this song, and you forget about your favorite type of music. You picture in your mind all these dark lonely roads, the restaurant, the faceless people, you feel the eyes upon you... Basically, I'm trying to say this song is a piece of art that will last throughout the ages, even if you can hear 'em talking, or if you can't...
I used to tell me friends in the early 90's that Metallica should do a remake of Seger's 'Turn the Page' because their style suits the song - THEN THEY DID!!! Love both versions, purchased both CDs at the time. Still enjoy them to this day.
One day when I listened to the radio, I tuned into an oldies station and found the original version of this song. Then I tuned to the rock station and found this version of the song. I like this song no matter who made this.

That solo at the end just makes you want to cry, like when you listen to any of the songs that were remade by a band that was better the second time. JC, hurt; Brad Paisley, Harlan(coalminer's blues); Hallelujah, no matter how many people remake it... it's best. Oldies never really get old.

I adore both versions of this song. It's the same story, told by two different voices and perspectives. Bob Seger (original) told the story from the perspective of a man broken down and completly destroyed by his experiences. James tells it like a man who is suffering with his experiences, but instead gets angry about it, and uses his anger to keep himself going. Amazing work from both men.
I grew up listening to Seger and hearing this song covered is interesting. The slide guitar in place of the saxophone adds a new flavor to the song. James' voice fits the song pretty well, a lot better than expected. And the fact that they tuned down a half step gives it an interested nuance

I'm addicted to this since at least 2016 and before. Specially this video was really special for me at that time. I salute you from Brazil. For anyone involved in any ways with Metallica i want to let you know that you're part of something very important here in Brazil. Since i was a kid i already saw people being fans of Metallica, from kids to older people. I remember seeing graffiti about Metallica as a kid, there were kids into rap and others into rock in one of my schools, Metallica was THE most popular band. I'm 29 now and still amazed by this song.
Absolutely. I think everyone agrees that both versions are classic, it is just personal preference. Personally i enjoy metallica way more. But the lyrics are timeless. Masterpiece.
gotta say, that was an amazing cover. for some reason iv never heard this song from them. i really like how they stayed true to the orginal song and not try to remake it in their play-style, but in a weird way, it really suits their style of music. that's just my opinion
The difference between this song and the original version is like the difference between Hurt sung by NIN or Johnny Cash. We all thank Bob Seger for creating the song but Metallica took it to another level like Cash did with Hurt.
+Melissa “BallerinaDark” Dark you are dead right. hammett does a sterling job of 'wailing'' guitar sound as a complement to the sax in seger's version. metallica pulls no punches in adding power and passion to their version

This is one of the first metallica songs I listend to about 2yrs ago and this song is in my top 10
yea. too bad its just a cover
@@Levente20 Idc I like it
this could have easily been wrote by Metallica. it fits them so wrll
This album captures Hetfields attitude so well.
His singing is fucking spectacular and the best.
This version makes me want to go buy a Motorcycle and cruise the highway I love this song
on a motor cycle you cant listen to this song .
You should...and you most definitely can listen to music on a motorcycle!
@@rezaasadi890 well i did just a couple of minutes ago and will do again on my way home today xD
Hell yeah
I’ve take both of my bikes out and thundered to this both through the speaker in a saddle bag or in my old helmet. It’s doable and freeing! Get out there!
Both versions are great, but I perfer the Metallica one over the Bob Seger one. Still, love both.
Ian Ramey
Ian Ramey the problem with metallica doing covers I don't feel like the feel ot
Wait What And my problem with Bob Seger’s is I don’t really feel it. Not like I do with Metalicca’s cover. That’s just me.
Absolutely. I think everyone agrees that both versions are classic, it is just personal preference. Personally i enjoy metallica way more. But the lyrics are timeless. Masterpiece.
I prefer Bob seger 100%
this song its just amaizing the drums the bass the guitars and james voice awasome!!!!!! 😀
I'm not a rockstar and I don't sing on stage but the rest of the song resonates with me unbelievably the post below me I agree with everyone of you
Oh yea. This song can most definitely be used as a metaphor for life in general
gotta say, that was an amazing cover. for some reason iv never heard this song from them. i really like how they stayed true to the orginal song and not try to remake it in their play-style, but in a weird way, it really suits their style of music. that's just my opinion
The difference between this song and the original version is like the difference between Hurt sung by NIN or Johnny Cash. We all thank Bob Seger for creating the song but Metallica took it to another level like Cash did with Hurt.
I agree fully.
+Melissa Dark (“BallerinaDark”) you got it right
+Melissa “BallerinaDark” Dark you are dead right. hammett does a sterling job of 'wailing'' guitar sound as a complement to the sax in seger's version. metallica pulls no punches in adding power and passion to their version
+Melissa “BallerinaDark” well said
thanks. I'm glad you all agree :)
One of the few covers that's better than the original.
this is a really good cover i like both this one and the orignal
After about 4/5 years I'm listening this song again.
The same thrill I'm feeling which i got 4/5 years ago
