I love my kindle while traveling! Being a solo traveler, I like to have a book for company. Previously, the top layer in my suitcase was paperback books which could be discarded when finished, thus creating more luggage space. But I travel much lighter now and have access to all the books I want. Usually, I try to download books that are set in my destination country which adds another dimension to my travels.
That's awesome. Mandy used a kindle also and loved it but now has downsized even more by reading off the phone. I love to read books based in countries I'm visiting or plan to visit to set scene and learn more about them. 😊 ~ Lee
DB navigator is a good one for trains all over Europe, let’s you know how many stops as well as prices- nothing worse than saving a fiva to realise you have to change trains an extra five times
Nice selection of apps 👍. Some we’ll have to try out. We hadn’t heard of Libby. Looks great! We love the photo translation in google translate. Came in super handy when we were in Turkey.
Hope you benefit from Libby. We both swear by it and use it on a daily basis. Google translate is a godsend also and we often rely on the photo function to get us through sticky situations. 😁 ~ Lee
Just stumbled across you, as I'm doing my homework for a rtw trip I'm about to leave on. Definitely going to dig deeper into your channel. Superb stuff, thanks for uploading x
Thank you 🙏. So pleased this has been of help to you. These apps really are lifesavers for us that we use on a daily basis. Good luck with your travels and we hope that our channel helps you out in the future. 😍
What a great vlog!!! Very useful indeed. What I love about your videos is thst they really speak to the average person who is seeking to be a travel ler rather than to tourist. Very forward thinking and extremely useful information. Thanks, you two!!!
Thank you so much for your kind comment. We are so happy to see that people understand what we are trying to do here. To show in simple terms that it is possible to travel the world on a budget. We try to keep it real and honest and show the reality of everyday travelling life. Thanks for watching and your support. We really appreciate it 🙏😊 ~ Lee
Pocket is excellent, and we use it all the time. It's so important to ensure the webpage has fully downloaded and can be opened offline before you lose wifi... Lee was caught out yesterday when an article on World Cup fanzone locations wouldn't open! ~ Mandy 😀😁
Fab - I've been pausing and downloading lots of those apps as I went along. I had quite a few already and I think I might have got those from your videos, too. I'm hoping to get to Portugual early next year sometime...
I use Borrowbox which links to my library - you can also borrow audiobooks from it as well. Another app I use is a compass one - very handy if you know that you need to head in a particular direction!
Borrowbox is awesome. I have it also for my UK library. I had a compass app on my last phone and used it often. They are so useful. I use the maps.me mostly to get around now and the blue arrow always shows your direction of orientation as you move around. Fine for city walking but I wouldn't navigate a vessel by it. 😁👍 ~ Lee
Thank you M&L for producing this video. Except for some Taxi and Korean TV (!!) apps, I use everything you mentioned! 🎉 On the ‘travel’ front, I’d like to suggest BusBud as an alternative to the Omio app. It worked better for me in Portugal. Not sure about elsewhere. 🚌 On the ‘convenience’ front, I’d like to suggest Flush app for toilet searching. It’s doesn’t catch everything but nice to have for those ‘just-in-case’ situations. 😁
Hello lucchese20! It's always so lovely to hear from you... and it's great to hear that you use almost all the same apps. I had a look at Flush yesterday, and had a laugh at some of the reviews 🤣 It seems to work brilliantly some times and not at at other times, but it's definitely a great new app for me and my quest for free public toilets! Thank you also for recommending BusBud. It's always great to hear of alternative apps that work well! ~ Mandy 😁😀
Thanks for that, Luchesse. 🙏. We used Busbud a few times in Turkey as well. It was great to gather the information we needed about bus times but would then buy tickets at the bus stations to avoid comission charges. 😁 Mandy is avidly checking out Flush now as we speak. She'll get back to you once she's tested it. 🚽😁 ~ Lee
We are so happy to hear that you have found this video helpful! It would be great to hear if there are other apps you'd recommend for travel 🤗🙏 ~ Mandy
Before we traveled to Portugal, I read that Bolt was often cheaper than Uber, so I downloaded it and thought it seemed quite usable--that is, until I discovered that Bolt does not allow the user to easily change the phone number associated with the account. The only way to do that is to contact Bolt support. Apparently Bolt feels that changing the phone number associated with the account is a security risk and thus discourages that. What that means for those of us from the US that use mobile providers that don't provide EU service and thus need to buy a temporary SIM once across the pond, Bolt is not particularly useful. On the other hand, I was able to open Uber as soon as my Vodafone temp SIM was installed and immediately change the number without any problem.
I had a great experience with Bolt in Eastern Europe. Uber wasn’t allowed in some countries and often didn’t have cars available where they did operate.
We found it difficult with both Uber and Bolt in some of the more remote locations in Portugal that there were just never any drivers available so had to rely on good old shanks' pony. 🤣 ~ Lee
Awesome. I have it too but haven't used it for a while. It's great to have a backup. If you like to listen to Audiobooks I've just discovered the librivox app which has 40,000 free audio books available. 😁
Love this. We love to travel and save money, therefore we really like your name and the content. We do tend to use credit cards as opposed to an app for purchases because we always travel when we have a new credit card in bonus since we get a lot of free travel back that way. When we grow a little more we are going to start making this kind of video. For now, we are concentrating on cultural and food travel to grow the following. Enjoy Kuwait and travel safe. - Turtle
Thank you for your great comment, Turtle, and it's lovely to meet you, and I love your channel name as well! Yes, some people are very good at using points to travel. It's not something we've ever done but I admire the ability to use those cards to their best advantage. We are currently in Dubai, then will be housesitting in Abu Dhabi before flying to Kuwait after the New Year... and are so looking forward to it! ~ Mandy 😁😀
As always, thank you both for the incredibly useful inforrmation. I, for one, already use many of them and will definitely give the ones I don't yet have a try. I did have a bit of a chuckle when you mentiond Jetstar, which is an Australian subsidiary of Qantas, as a possible choice of budget airlines. For anyone thnking of using Jetstar please be aware that their performance of late, especially post COViD, has been less than stellar and borders on abysmal. They need to up their game, an awful lot, on punctuality, cancelled flight notifications, customer service and every other aspect of their operation, with the possible exception of the in flight staff who are almost without flaws. Finally, have a great time in the Middle East and we hope to hear and see you here soon.
Thanks so much for this feedback although it does concern us slightly as we have a flight booked with them from Sydney to Auckland in February. I hope they've gotten their act together by then. 🙏🤞👍 ~ Lee
@@FrugalTravellers As frugal travelers I'm sure that you are familiar with the paraphrasing of Benjamin Disraeli's quote "Hope for the best and plan for the worst." when booking a flight with Jetstar. But I also know you guys will shine regardless of what happens. Tenha uma viagem segura e feliz!
Thanks so much for such interesting information. Some new ones for me too. Are you in Abu Dhabi now? I am very excited about your vlogs from the middle east. If possible try to go to Oman. It's more traditional than many of the neighbouring countries. Hubby is learning Arabic on Duolingo. I really admire him.

Thank you so much, Kristof. I'm fine with learning Brazilian Portuguese as we will be spending a lot of time travelling in Brazil also. I managed to communicate in Portugal with it without any real difficulty. I also noticed the Portuguese changed quite considerably from region to region and between urban and rural areas. It was a fun challenge to try to understand sometimes. 😁 ~ Lee
