If you think about it, nagash and sigmar truly are two sides of the same coin. They are both massively arrogant, stubborn and have both changed the realms as much as chaos. The stormcast are the same as the nighthaunt as well. Souls ripped away from a promised after life because a powerful personality deemed it so, and whatever that soul is transformed into is cursed to an horrific existence. Both are bound to that God whether they like it or not, the only difference is nagash doesn't hide it behind a facade.
Underrated comment
From what I've read, it seems that the souls taken by Sigmar may not be willing when they die and are taken by lightning to the anvil, but the battletomes then speak of months of painful reforging and testing. If its a test I cant see how someone who doesn't want to be in Sigmar's army could/would endure all that time. Perhaps its then a question of death or reforging, but I would think their binding to Sigmar would be a willed choice at that point.

Just a few specifications from a Nighthaunt Player : the original goal of the necroqwake was not to raise the dead but to annihilate all life in the Mortal Realms. But the Skaven took away some gravesand panels from the great black pyramid and changed the spell. And instead of killing everyone, Nagash sent out a massive wave of death-magic and raise up millions of spirits and corpses all over the realms~
That's still a very good silver medal :D but the Skaven really did unintentionally save the universe lol
This video was a clear example of what sets you apart from others Doug, it wasn't just an info dump, it wasn't a long winded opinion. Just a solid balance between lore and why you think it's cool.

I love your videos Doug! The lore makes it amazing, and your summaries really draw me in, even for factions I don’t love or play. But in this case, I’m a Nighthaunt junkie (they were my first army)
This Ex Mormon did NOT expect to hear about Kolob in this video about spoopy ghosts, I'll say that
I actually came up with a setra resurgence because of this, setra found himself at the shores of sheish and he was baffled bye what he saw, no golden land, no honorable greeting, only darkness and that usurper nagash. In pain and denial, setra used the only thing he had, his will. He bent the sands, the sky and the waters themselves in time to make his golden realm,,, but in the process became something more "the gods may have died, but I still remain Setra the imperishable, setra king of nehekara, setra the unbroken, setra the god king."
He formed a realm of his own of gold and light, khemeir, the realm of power and honor.
Setra becoming a God just makes sense to me.
I could be wrong but the ghosts are all specifically people who don't get to go to their respective heavens? They're the sinners barred entry to Shyish and doomed to for the souls to fade away - or now be brought back by the power of the necroquake? It's not all people who die that become ghosts, it's those who died who's souls couldn't move on.
It's not that they couldn't move on, it's Nagash who enjoys punishing souls for eternity, doing in death what they didn't want in life. Or the opposite of what they did in life.
So a doctor could be made to slaughter people or something like that.
Like the Dreadscythe Harridans were healers in life, but in death they are forced to kill relentlessly, with no hands to do any good, but only blades to inflict pain and death.
Maybe before but now in the new battletome it says that all afterlifes (thanks to the death vortex in the middle of shyish) eventually becomes raw death magic for nagash and that all who die doesnt go to the afterlives anymore they all become nighthaunt :)
@@wrongix6544 I never liked this. It's a little to grimdark for my taste. You're choices after death are demonhood(if lucky and even then it's still a form of slavery imo) or become one of Sigmars or Nagash's slave soldiers.

@Mr Jayboo You are right there are still afterlives around but they are all slowly disappearing thanks to no new souls going there and all becoming nighthaunt. And the reason Nagash cant control the Nighthaunt is because when they where created in the necroquake some skavens went inside the ritual and with their chaotic nature the ritual didnt go as nagash had planned so he cant control all Nighthaunt at the same time cuz chaos? Idk i think that part is stupid... atleast the new nighthaunt should be able to be controlled by him but what do i know.

I Like the concept of punishment. I would make a nighthaunt Character, that was a sadistic criminal in live, and now in death, a Headhunter who hunts the criminals and nagashs enemys in shyish.
Could a vampire lord and nighthaunt go against and destroy Nagash? What would happen if Nagash was defeated?
That's definitely something that makes the faction interesting.

Lore of the undead in a nutshell:
Step 1: Nagash builds a Black Pyramid
Step 2: Skaven destroy said Pyramid
Step 3: Nagash is pissed (although this migh be his default mood anyway)
Step 4: Go back to step 1
