Absolutely LOVED the Eastman sound ... and then you played the P.Mauriat and it just hit differently, what a horn! Im coming to visit from Australia in May and am so excited to see/try these amazing horns
I bought my Eastman 52nd St 4 years ago to use as a backup until I could get my Selmer restored, with a plan to sell the 52nd St afterwards. I love it and it ain’t going anywhere!
Definitely more than just a backup. I’d imagine it offers a slightly different sound compared to the Selmer, so it’s worth keeping both! That’s exactly what I’d tell my wife to justify keeping them both. 🙃
A year ago I spent a couple of days in the studio recording a jazz album. I brought my Eastman 52nd Street and also my 1959 Mark VI. I intended to have the Eastman there just as a backup, but it sounded so good that I recorded the whole album in the Eastman and the Selmer stayed in its case. Another observation: The 52nd Street played in this video is the 652 model. I believe the new 852 will be released quite soon (the 852 tenor is already available, but the alto is still to come). I’m hopeful the 852 will be a game changer, because the tenor version is fantastic.
Hi Aaron! We've noticed a growing number of our customers transitioning from vintage Selmers to this category of saxophone - and they haven’t looked back! The 852 tenor models are fantastic, and we’re just as excited for the release of the altos. I'm sure it’ll be worth the wait
1:11 - There is also the unlacquered Yanagisawa saxophones which will have that vintage patina look. I liked the Atlantic the most. It has a very nice sounding bottom end. Also liked the P. Mauriat.
to me Atlantic won sound wise and design wise however having unlacquer vintage horn and modern lacquered one I prefer practicing lacquered because hands don't stink metal which quite pleasing after spending time with vintage ancient atic horn
I have Yanagisawa WO Series sop/alto/tenor in unlacquered bronze and my hands don’t stink after playing them . I did have that issue when I tried lower price Asian made unlacquered horns .
Is there a sakuzu bass saxophone comparison planed in the future versus other manufacturers both modern and vintage? The Atlantic has a very unique presence and its a really good vision for the sound they wanted.
The Atlantic London team absolutely smashed it with the design of these. In terms of the Bass, that's a great idea, we'll try to get something filmed as soon as we get our hands on a Vintage bass!
I loved the sound of all of them _ however , The Atlantic was brilliant at the bottom end , as was the Mauriat. However , for me the Atlantic sounded so similar to my SBA , so I vote the London the winner , in a very good competition .
The comment I was waiting for. Seems Cannonball rarely gets compared to other saxophones. I’m wondering whether it is due to a contractual reason or because Cannonball is in a class of its own or any other reasons.
From our experience, the more contemporary big bell Cannonball models are significantly more popular in our store. In contrast, the Vintage Reborn series has never really gained traction with our customers. 🤷
We found the 82Z a little powerful and bright for this specific test! We put it in our powerful saxophone comparison recently if you'd like to hear it.
Thank You Jim They sound. My personal sound preference was for the Eastman. You run a great music business. God bless you and yours. Bill. Uk. 🎷🎷🎷

I never fail to be impressed with Jim's playing.
Such a great player! I've been lucky to record him all these years! Jamie
it's almost unhelpful. "well that one sure does sound good. ok, this one sounds really good too though. next, yup, also sounds great..."
Who else got frightened at 9:32?
I came to look at this comment right away. My eyes grew x2
Yikes, that was close!
@@saxworldwide next video : sax crash test for students who always forget to close their sax cases 🫣😱
@@valentinconus this would hurt
LOL WOAH I never saw that at first

Agreed - that DS mechanism is superb and takes it up another notch
At 14.10 my heart skipped a beat when the Eastman almost fell off the stand.
I noticed this in the edit 😨 😅 - Jamie
someone further up the comments has pointed out a moment at 9.32 also! Jim
You sound great on anything Jim but it’s the P.Mauriat and Atlantic for me!
Thanks! Both are great saxophones, we're so spoilt for choice these days

They all sounded so great in the room too! The Atlantic London saxophones sure are a force to be reckoned with!
Can you do this video but with Tenors!
im suprised cannonball didnt make the cut. i feel like they are way more well known for being a vintage influenced horn.
The best ever sax family is the Selmer Paris it’s expensive it hell.
No Cannonball Vintage Reborn?
Amen ❤

How is the YAS82ZIIU not included here?
At a guess price point?

Beautiful Playing Jim. My favorites were the p.mauriat and the signature custom.
Thank you! Hope you enjoyed the video
Mauriaut then London then 52bd st - custom last
In the second clips, the London wins
U forgot the cannonball vintage reborn
It's a great sax, however, doesn't tend to be as popular as these models in our store!
@saxworldwide oh cool. Good to know
That --criteria-- criterion
Eastman for me I think….
