Here's a quick step-by-step tutorial on how to use the write on effect for your TEXT in Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2019. This effect is perfect for travel videos and travel vlogs. Enjoy!

Alright, guys, gals and else, for all who got STUCK in 3:20, here´s the detail you probably missed on how you actually draw the frame by frame thingy. Let´s go step by step:
FIRST; observe in 3:19 how he selects the "Write On" effect bar in Control Effects. It´s really quick, one can almost miss it. That´s how you highlight the cursor to track the matte key.
SECOND; the Write On effect DOESN´T step foward the frames automaticaly. So you must move the frames yourself. You can use Right Arrow on your keyboard to advance one frame. Ok, that being said, the actual drawing takes the following pattern:
1) Select Write On bar (important!);
2) Set first key frame; Move cursor to first brush position;
3) Step to next frame with right arrow key; Move cursor to next brush position; (Here´s where you can notice the key frame line forming in the brush!).
4) Step to next frame; Move cursor.
5) And keep repeating.
Obs: This is not just for beginners. Pros gets stuck too, I get stuck too sometimes, so don´t feel bad and don´t let anyone make you feel bad. If you are using these effects that means you are way passed the noobie point, so cheers. :)
Did you know how to increase the duration of the write on? I finished the brush stroke but it write very quickly

IMPORTANT TIP: To be able to drag the white dot, you have to click the "Write Off" above the brush position. I don't know why he just went over this and it really confused me, thank goodness I found other videos mentioning this.

I agree, this guy also skipped over some hotkeys so I 'm wondering how much he actually knows.
For those doubly confused and don't know what "Write off" is, there should be the option to disable write on effect by clicking the tiny FX logo, just play around with that and you'll be able to move the dot.

The patience that this effect requires is crazy!!!!! But this would only take few seconda in canva which is unfair.... I am just starting doing video editing and I chose adobe premiere pro and it's challengin, but I've already learned some few effects and currently doing my intoruction video to get direct clients

*EASIER LAZY METHOD* (thank you for this video btw I don't want to discredit your hard work) but -- if you have a Canva account ($15/month), you can select one of the very many text templates that they have and export them. Canva gives you plenty of pre-made typing/writing options, here's what you do: 5 minutes tops!
Create a blank design --> insert a new text and add your your desired animation to the text --> make the background of the design neon green (like a green screen) --> make the animation as long as you'd like --> download the design as an mp4 file --> in Adobe Premiere, insert the mp4 file and using the Ultra Key effect, remove the green screen (select the dropper in the effects page then click on the green part of the mp4 file to remove it)--> voila! Adjust to your desired position/size
Thanks great tutorial! but how do i apply this to an image? cos i want this effect in my logo and the typography doesn't exist cos i made it up in Corel, i tryed this technique and it dosn't work on the image.

HI. I watched your tutorial with the Write On effect which is RIGHT ON! However, all I want to do is use the line tool to circle places on a map. Or the circle tool. When I activate the text tool with the T all the lines etc are greyed out. Please help. thanks nancy
Wouldn't it be a lot easier to set the beginning and end key frames for the stroke and then add the individual key frames along the line later? That way you could get a straighter line and it wouldn't be so tedious. Just a thought.

why dont you apply the write on filter directly to the text? what is the point of applying this filter to the video layer? and then masking thru the text layer. is it so you can do more effects on the video layer?

I have a large paragraph of text I would like this effect on. Would take so long to trace it all. Is there a quicker way to do this on a large paragraph ?
Is it possible to adjust the thickness while writing over the text? When I try to keyframe the thickness, the whole line gets adjusted. Maybe I'm missing something... I want this effect on a calligraphic font, so on intersecting text lines the stroke width needs to be smaller and/or bigger. Thanks!
you can try keyframing the size of your brush as well as the position

Yes, all you have to do is place the keyframes closer together.
Good grief! Whats the trick to grabbing the actual cross hair to move the new key frame instead of the previous key frame set? I've zoomed in to the max and more of than not I end up dragging around a random key frame instead of moving the #$%* cursor! Suggestions?

So I was doing pretty well up until the setting up of the key frames.
For whatever reason I’m not able to move the white ball that’s created from the brush size to start putting key frames.
Any advice on how to proceed?
it may be your graphic card issue or slow PC, it plays main role for adobe premiere pro, it requires powerful system, make sure to tag write on , it must be selected before you drag brush tool for creating new keyframes

@@maverickg3gbls132 I have no issue , you doing something wrong, add Ultra Squad#9172 U/S caps to friends , this is 1 of few guides which actually really explains how to make this effect work, so either you doing something wrong, either you did not followq guide well.
Several questions. I used it today in the 2023 version, and Adobe in their infinite wisdom, put the WriteOn effect in the Obsolete folder. Because they don't want to support it in OS upgrades? Also, in my 2023 version, the transparency layer wasn't transparent, very weird. When I did it in my 2021 version (I am an instructor with lots of computers) the lettering reversed itself at the end, so any idea why at the end of the 5 second animation does it go backwards and erase the letters? The script movement follows the path and erases what is there. Is it possible all my glitches today is the reason they put it in Obsolete? Thank you for the help!

Hello, I used this effect for the text on a photo. Actually for the text on my logo. First I made this logo transparent with the color key and then I applied the steps in the video. But the result is problematic in a way that I don't understand. In other words, there is text in the form of a white line in the video. What do you think I should do? Thank you from now

@@hunterhill4786 me too. the logo layer just stays transparent after i choose matte: video3. When i change the logo layer to a text layer it works... but not with my logo layer :/

QUESTION: The beginning point of my animation begins to move after about a quarter of the way thru the animation, causing it to write off screen as well, so basically it doesn't stay there, as if there's two Brush Position animation options - one for each end of the brush, any ideas on how to prevent this?
Make sure your keyframes were placed properly. It should follow the path of your text from start to finish.
@@cineguac I figured it out - it has something to do with the duration setting, it holds shorter if the setting is low and the animation length is long - it begins to "write off" screen from the first key frame if it's not set properly
Question. Once you start drawing the path, you’re saying “go to the next frame”. Are you using the keyboard to go to the next frame? I’m assuming so, since the mouse cursor in the video never goes to advance the frame.
Yes, you can hit the right and left arrows to move a single frame

when i added the brush position key frame it doesn’t let me drag the circle on the middle of the screen to the first letter. do you know why it might be doing that
It could be a number of things - make sure the brush position option is SELECTED in the effect controls space, otherwise it won't move
