    Florian Solzbacher and Marcus Gerhardt came together to start Blackrock Neurotech. It has become the world's leading brain-computer interface company, producing the majority of BCI implants that are or have been in patients, ever.
    A chip is implanted into the motor cortex. As a user thinks of an action like moving their hand, the computer decodes and analyzes those brain signals through an algorithm. Then, that digital command is transmitted to external devices, or in some cases, stimulates muscles or nerves to allow patients to move their own arms and hands.
    Long considered the realm of science fiction, brain-computer interface technology is now a reality. And for people who have lost function, it's changing their lives. Soon it could be available to everyone, including the able-bodied population.

A robotic heart, a metalic skull, robotic lungs, muscles, nanobots that can manipulate the dna to stop aging as well as remove all disease, robotic spinal cord and bones that only need to be replaced every 50 years, and so many other amazing options that can remove deadly disease, obesity, ageing, memory problems, fix our stamina, give everyone the bodies they truly desired to where you no longer need to go to the gym or get glasses, no longer in need of a salon as we can use robotic parts to change every aspect and in turn become our most desireable.

      Sarif was right about one thing. It's in our nature to want to rise above our limits. Think about it. We were cold, so we harnessed fire. We were weak, so we invented tools. Every time we met an obstacle, we used creativity and ingenuity to overcome it. The cycle is inevitable. In the past, we've had to compensate for weaknesses, finding quick solutions that only benefit a few. But what if we never need to feel weak or morally conflicted again? What if the path Sarif wants us to take enables us to hold on to higher values with more stability? One thing is obvious. For the first time in history, we have a chance to steal fire from the gods. To turn away from it now - to stop pursing a future in which technology and biology combine, leading to the promise of a Singularity - would mean to deny the very essence of who we are. No doubt the road to get there will be bumpy, hurting some people along the way. But won't achieving the dream be worth it? We can become the gods we've always been striving to be. We might as well get good at it. - Deus Ex Human Revolution

If not, maybe it's a good idea to change your name to one that doesn't invoke a connection to a giant shadow Bank that has far too much power and mainly uses it for its profit interests. Especially because you are working on brain interface chips. I don't want to attribute the nefarious nature of Blackrock, Inc. to you, but since you mentioned military applications of the technology in this video you should be careful that your products are helping humanity not dooming it.

      @@honkhonk8009 Military application of this technology sounds pretty yucky. I am totally on your side when you say we have to convince everyone that war is unprofitable and unwinnable. That includes the US by the way, Iraq was a nightmare and Afghanistan did nothing to bring democracy and stability to the county. The thing I am most worried about is that this decision will most likely be made behind closed doors not by the public, but by powerful people, who are either ignorant of their fallibility or that have self-servicing interests in mind. I am pretty sure that we (the west) have enough detergents. I don't think Russia would have ever attacked Ukraine if there were still useable nukes in the country. I think there is a flaw in your reasoning that we need advancement to have equilibrium. We aren't fighting against a highly advanced alien species, but fellow men. We need equilibrium, I know that's hard to achieve when everyone thinks they have to be more powerful than the other to not be attacked. That's why we have to break that cycle of every increasing arms race, we already have the technologies for our destruction. You should play half-life, Deus Ex or Prey (2017). In all these games there is a small powerful elite deciding for all of mankind and thereby dooming them to a terrible fate.

      @honkhonk8009 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Ninjaeule97 But you miss the point. the US has been laid back from advancements in military tech ever since the collapse of the soviet union. At best, we were fighting Taliban that didnt need advance stuff to counter.
      China is not like the USSR. China is more than willing to publicly broadcast its intention to invade neighbhoring countries for no reason other than restoring national pride. China has also been willing to steal land from India, encroach on Australia, and use colonial tactics to setup bases near its neighbhors.
      Half the CCP is rationale and only wants a prosperous china. The other half, is nationalistic and wants "social harmony" above all else.
      We used to be able to cool down the cold war with diplomacy. But China doesnt do diplomacy, nor does china do Allies.
      I have family members in China, and know their backwards and borderline insane ideology when it comes to geopolitics.
      At the end of the day, we are gonna have to play Chinas game. We need to boost our economy, we need to boost our institutions, and we need to at best keep our military at a near peer status with China.
      Trust me when i say this, the military and their industry counterparts are 100% aware of their own infallability. They have done numerous courses and exerciszes on organization theory purely to avoid groupthink.
      Iraq and Afghanistan werent wars caused by the military. They were wars caused by politicians. The military in these wars performed admirably and better than expectation. especially during these two wars. But politicians chose the worst wars to involve our military in the first place.

    • @Ninjaeule97
      @Ninjaeule97 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@honkhonk8009 I can see your point. I wouldn't say that military spending/investment in the US hasn't been low since the collapse of the USSR, you might say it's been low in the EU. I can understand your fear of CCPs China, especially in its alliance with Putin Russia. I would add that his Russia also isn't like the USSR (at least what I have heard about it). It's far more nationalistic and willing to fight not just proxy wars. China might bang the war drum when it comes to Taiwan, but I don't think they want to take that risk. The US decided during WW2 if invading Taiwan, either because there were some Japanese on the island or because it would have been a strategic position (I don't remember which), was worth it. They concluded that the terrain was far too difficult so defending was far easier than attacking it. Of course, if the CCP would throw every weight behind it, they could probably do it, but the cost for it politically, economically, and socially would be far too high. In the end, the cold war was decided by economics. When Khrushchev saw American supermarkets, Chernobyl happened, etc. it was pretty clear to everyone that the USSR with its ideology could never catch up. Unfortunately, I doubt we will have that same luxury with China. I think this time, it will be ideas that decided the new cold war. When the west can prove to the world that their system is the better one, China (and Russia) will become increasingly isolated. With the internet, it is pretty much impossible to prevent ideas from entering the country, so eventually, their system will collapse. So of course we need to strengthen our institutions, grow our economies by trading with whoever is willing to follow some rules, and make sure that our military isn't so weak that Russia or China can invade us. But we need to be careful with the last part. The military-industrial complex already holds a lot of power. You might be right that it was politicians who started the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, but keep in mind that politics doesn't happen in a bubble. The industry supplied the arms, the military followed the orders, the media reported what it should and the voters gobbled it all up. How do we make sure this won't happen again, so the rest of the World doesn't see the west as just another China or Russia?

      @@Ninjaeule97 The US defence spending isnt low, but their procurement spending definitely was low. Keep in mind the US spends all their money maintaining all their glorified amazon warehouses in random countries.
      When people talk about the Military Industrial Complex, they usually talk about how the MID inflates the cost of weapons, and baloons the military budget. What people dont understand, is that the MID isnt Lockheed Martin or Raytheon. The true MID are the electrical companies, the food suppliers and the rest of the contractors in charge of managing all those offshore bases/glorified amazon warehouses.
      I beleive the best ways to ensure that Iraq doesnt happen again, have already been done.
      In Vietnam, we acknowledged our ego issue that caused us to lose that war.
      In Iraq, we acknowledged our groupthink issues within our institutions, that caused this war.
      Unfortunately, the best way to stop Iraq from happening, is to fix our information economy. The Media was responsible for this clusterfuck.
      Supposedley, the third estate is supposed to keep our government in check, and make sure our think tanks and leaders actually get usefull criticism. Instead, the media ran off the 9/11 hype train, and allowed Bush to delude himself into thinking Iraqs nuclear WMD programs werent neutered by US sanctions.
      Humans make mistakes. its fundamental to our nature. The US must learn to minimize those mistakes, by cutting down on their comittments. We won in afghanistan, but then turned it into a failure by trying to nation build a country, where 90% of their citizens didnt even know their country was a thing.
      We won in Iraq, untill we went on our democracy moral high ground, and fired all of Saddams baathist government officials, resulting in them leaking into ISIS and Al-Qaeda.

    For this to be successful FAST, it needs to be commercialized as a replacement for mouse and keyboard (and other PC input devices).
    Interested people would install an extremely simple interface inside their brain through a minimally invasive surgery (or simply interface with skin). While each individual would be unique in how they express their intention, a modulator would be trained to take that intention and convert it into a standard signal that all PCs can understand. (The modulator can be upgraded or replaced to understand more complex intentions while the interface remains fixed.)
    If the technology becomes fast enough, gamers would be all over it. Just imagine playing games without moving a single muscle on your body. Just by THINKING. You would have immense advantage over even the fastest mouse-using gamers. Who wouldn't want that?!
    Why is it important to do it this way? Limiting this research and potential products to ONLY the disabled will only slow down the innovation as the market is too niche. There aren't that many disabled people in the world, compared to how many PEOPLE are in the world. Only when it's commercialized for everybody can this then become truly beneficial for the disabled as a technology they can take home, or they can modify to their unique needs.
    This is the only real way to bring this outside the lab. That's why capitalism works, and philanthropy depends on it. :)

      There is damage difference between brain vs nerve fiber/spinal cord.
      The BMI fixes usually the spinal cord injury problem.
      The BMI just read the signal from the brain.
      A wire is used to send signal to muscles to move.

      This sounds dystopian and unrealistic. Conspiratorial at best.
      How is augmentation the medium by which evildoers will suddenly be able to commit evil by the likes of which we’ve never seen? Why do you assume precautions will not be taken? Why do you assume the creators of this technology have not already thought of this and will be transparent in efforts to mitigate the chance this tech will be utilized for such things?
