This has to be one of the most important videos of hip-hop culture ever it shows the old generation the ones that started needle dropping been taught to the younger generation that is now our current hip-hop
The base ingredient for true a producer.....knowing how to manipulate the wax on turntables. Technology takes the art to different levels but it(hip hop) started from the DJ and those tables with black wax. Respect to Kamaal (Q-tip)
THIS RIGHT HERE, I WOULD'VE BEEN FORTUNATE TO JUST SOAK IN ALL PRODUCTION LEARNING I POSSIBLY CAN... CLASSIC... FOREVERRRRR CREATIVITY, FOREVERRRRR NATIVE TONGUES.......
I haven't been around vinyl alot, but I can only imagine the skill needed to do this. Probably have to have a deep relationship with the track to know exactly what soundbite is where while also accounting for the spin and rhythm of the record. Like holy shit. And with "needle dropping" I can only infer you're using a fucking needle, so you need pinpoint accuracy. The way he's able to flow and make this look easy is incredible.
i just checked back on one of the first videos i posted. good to see so many folks from across the world checked it. it was a great moment in time for sure.
There's a video (no longer) floatin around of No ID in the same studio session needle droppin the same record and he kills it. Q-Tip loses his shit. #supreme
the song is bobby rush's "chicken heads" you can find it on the black moan soundtrack, dope ass track and shouts to durdatl for posting this dope vid which in turn made me want to e-dig for this jam, now it's on repeat!!
I've been trying to do the digital equivalent of this with Ableton's sampler by looping phrases and dropping the sample start point into new sections as it's playing
there are both hardware and software means of sampling and sequencing your loop. please google your question. im sure youll find endless answers to your question.
Why can't Rap/HipHop music get back to this??? This is simple yet hotter that whatever is being played in 2013!!! Using samples in a CREATIVE way is what made this genre what it is. (ie: J Dilla, The Bomb Squad, DJ Premier, Pete Rock, early Kanye West)
thanks to the diggers. yall are right gents. bobby rush it is. its been a while since ive been on here. thanks for the comments. new video up. questo. q-tip. dilla. peace.
good question. not that i heard. i did the knowledge on this video, and found out that exile (from blu and exile) lect q-tip a bunch of 45s from his personal collection. but ive never heard the sample in any major artist's song. maybe too much for the sample clearance?
@durdatl What does he do after he finds his sample? Does he upload it on to a PC/MAC or is a device needed? If a device or certain software is required can you recommend any?
agreed! RIP j dilla. if only the soulquarians were still around. actually, theres still good hip hop being made. check ughh.com. and sirius xm stilll plays the classics. but like my mans krs one once said, hip hop is not on the radio.
Check it out! I lost my heart, and my head went to. I lost my heart, and my head went Heart! I lost my heart, and my head went (3 minutes and 10 seconds) 🔥
absolutely. (actually, i hate using that term. i think absolutely and amazing are the two most overused adjectives being used today. but, eh.......) anyway, i have grand wizzard theodore's set from the a3c hip hop festival on my channel as well. please feel free to check it out. it was from 2012.
he's doing what all djs do... guess you cats never knew q-tip is the original (secret) dj for tribe. he used to rock out under the producing moniker, the abstract. just about any dj will sit and repeat the shit they like by lifting the needle ever so slightly as to make the record repeat. where you think looping comes from in hip-hop? haha
This has to be one of the most important videos of hip-hop culture ever it shows the old generation the ones that started needle dropping been taught to the younger generation that is now our current hip-hop
RuSSiAnSWaGG2012 no doubt man. This shit should be in the Smithsonian
Shit definetly inspired me.
When hip hop still had culture
Made me love and appreciate the art that much more
Official statement.
if he did a show of nothing but needle dropping, I'd be there
The base ingredient for true a producer.....knowing how to manipulate the wax on turntables. Technology takes the art to different levels but it(hip hop) started from the DJ and those tables with black wax. Respect to Kamaal (Q-tip)
I still watch this weekly
When you consider the accuracy it takes to do that real time...sheesh. I'm glad I paid for the Renaissance CD. Q TIP is under rated
q-tip is an old soul. he definitely know music in general. please read ?uestlove's book "mo meta blues" for lots more on q-tip. it's a fantastic book.
"I lost my heart, and my head went to...."
The rhythm had the camera even bopping its head lol
the magic started at 2:42 oh my lord
3:03 got me
@@bigTTTTT 3:08 made me cry
TITLE COULDN’T BE REALER🙌🏽
This is honestly one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen.. on video or in life
Remember there have been plenty of this needle drop style chops that never made it on record. This is just fun in the studio.
THIS RIGHT HERE, I WOULD'VE BEEN FORTUNATE TO JUST SOAK IN ALL PRODUCTION LEARNING I POSSIBLY CAN... CLASSIC... FOREVERRRRR CREATIVITY, FOREVERRRRR NATIVE TONGUES.......

Making me find new concepts I wouldn’t. Have known the meaning of it. Bipolar is making my thoughts sporadic to the point where I can’t stop fit

I agree. It's gotten WAY to far away from the basics where they sampled great blues, funk, soul and even jazz.
And madlib!
